    I've been lucky enough to have watched Storm Petrels and Albatross for hours/days while sailing offshore. That was over twenty years ago and it was a delight to see them once more through your lens. Thanks for sharing.

      That would have been fabulous! I bet the sailing was amazing too!! 😀 They are super pretty birds and so dainty dancing on those waves. Thanks so much for watching! 😊 ~ Karen

      Thank you! 😀 Even though it was blowing a gale & we nearly fell off the pier, it was quite a treat to see such an amazing little bird doing its thing dancing on water

    Nicely captured! It's almost as if the water is a trampoline!

      Such a pretty & dainty bird 😊 It was SO WINDY but the little petrel seemed right at home scooting along the waves without a care in the world ~ Karen

    Was blown away when i discovered pelagic seabirds use smell across the vast ocean to locate food sources.

    Animal and Karen, What great videos of these Whites-faced Storm Petrels and you got to take them without a boat! On your famous tripods! Try that from a boat. Wow! As always thanks for sharing with us your wonderful trips and photos. We're starting to hear trans gulf migrants here is Florida. The great migration is on! We would love to share it with you?

      Hello there!!! 😀 It must be amazing to see the Great Migration!!! We can only imagine it from the movie "The Big Year" 😂 You must take some photos. We'd love to see the birds you see. We're planning our own migration up north this year to hopefully see lots of Lifers 🦜 We've booked into a birdwatching resort so hopefully there will be lots to spot. Great to hear from you guys!! We often think of you & wonder what you're up to. Chat again soon!! Animal & Karen 🤣

      Nimal and Karen sorry about the Animal. Spell check! I assume your northern birding trip isn't to the US. We would love it if you came our way. We're spending the winter months in our Florida home and then back to the mountain home in North Carolina in May. We always have room to share if you come this way. Florida has the best birding but, North Carolina is the most beautiful. Talk soon, Jim

      @@jamesshelton6854 I thought the "Animal" was on purpose! 😅 We sometimes use that name. It's funny! Yes, we're off up north only as far as the wet tropics of Australia. You guys are so lucky to have two fabulous places to live with so much wildlife. Thanks so much for the invite!! You never know... one day we might take up your very generous offer 😀

    Nice video. I live in Altona and have gone to the pier a few times looking for the Storm Petrel, managed to get some half decent shots but I think video is the way to go. Hope you enjoyed our new pier!

      The pier is really lovely!! Though in high wind, I was a bit concerned about being blown off at the end 🤣 Worked well with us as Nimal is good at taking photos of flying birds & I prefer video ~ Karen

      It looks very quiet, what day was that? Unfortunately there was a horrible assault on a teenager last Wednesday afternoon, don't what's going on. l
      Let's just stick to bird photography. You should have gone to Truganina Park while you were there. It has been quiet of late but I saw a Collared Sparrowhawk and an Australian Hobby a few days ago!

      @@robertgilbert484 we just heard about that assault!! 😐 Horrible!!

    What fantastic footage! Magic!! Colour me extremely envious ;-) Good photos as well... We missed out on the few possible pelagic trips, so we're out of luck for birds like these, again (our 3 days in Cape Town were plagued with very hard wind, not until the itinerary took us inland the weather became perfect).
    Trying a new thing, are you? It's not that often we get Nimal as The Narrator 🙂Gotta ask: are you OK Karen? No nasty cold getting the best of your nice voice??
    Also: *of course* we'd love to have you be our "guides"/company with the key for our planned/hoped visit to the WTP! However, I fear our itinerary will make it a workday for you two😢I chose lodging close to the place (using Google maps, hopefully correct): *Werribee Park Motor Inn* and the nights we'll stay there are incheck Thursday Oct 24 - outcheck Saturday Oct 26, which means we only have the whole Friday.
    Thursday we'll drive from Wangaratta and Saturday we'll drive to S Dandenongs (trying Lyrebird Walk close to Grants Picnic Ground, we're staying overnight at closeby Breaside Bliss).
    On Sunday Oct 27 we'll continue our trip around the bay, aiming for Phillip Island. We'll spend the night at Sea Horse Motel in Cowes. Hopefully those few hours will give us a glimpse of at least one penguin, and a few Cape Barren Goose! We have the morning hours before checkout on Monday Oct 28 as well. But, then it's time to transport up to the airport, have a good nights sleep at Best Western Melbourne Airport before our flight to Hobart on Oct 29.
    Time's getting short in Victoria, sadly. We'll spend Oct 29 to Nov 3 on Bruny Island, before the flight to Sydney on Nov 4. We'll try for Rockwarbler in Royal NP on Nov 5, then drive north bcs I want to spend a few days meeting my old schoolmate who lives in the Comara area.
    Nov 12 is our flight back to Sweden, and by then I suspect I'm happy to go back home. We'll see.
    I've spent almost two weeks now, booking rental cars, domestic flights and lodging. Almost done, but the rental car bookings for Melbourne, Hobart & Sydney has grinded to a halt bcs Europcar seems to have trouble with its site.
    I'm therefore quite stressed out of my few remaining wits, still. Gotta fix the visa, can't before I get my new passport. Gotta fix the international drivers license. Can't until a bit closer to departure...
    Ho hum

      Wow!! This is going to be epic trip to Oz!! I'm sure it will all work out... plans always come together in the end. You still have lots of time left so I wouldn't worry. And if you need any help from this end of the planet, let me know 😀
      We'll pop Friday October 25th on our calendar so we don't book any trips away 😀 It would be fun to meet you & take you to the WTP if it fits into your plans.

      What did you think of Nimal as the narrator?? 😄 It made the video so easy to put together (and he knows everything about everything which makes it even easier). I wasn't sure if I was very good at narrating?? I hate my voice and I never know what to say.... but I'll keep doing it as I have to get the next video out!! 😀

    • @Hummingbirder1
      @Hummingbirder1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@naturephotographychallenge Nimal was very good as The Narrator! But, so are you, don't fret🥰 About hating ones own voice: we have that in common. I refuse to narrate my videos, even though it would make them a bit easier to consume, maybe. Instead I text, which is a bother since I have to make sure the text is up long enough for my very very few watchers to read... That in turn means that sometimes the text-reading takes away focus from the eventual interesting things going on in the video. My most ardent follower, Joan Hugget from somewhere in west Australia, that always comments on Duade's videos, she she tells me she always pauses the video to read, so she can watch what's going on after.
      (I have Duade to thank for her, bcs I always comment on his videos as well and I suppose she noticed and got curious and checked me out. She found she liked my subpar content, which I can't understand but love nonetheless!)

      @@naturephotographychallenge It would fit very well, but isn't it important to get there in the morning? We know squat about preferred timetables at any location, WTP included. I had toyed with the idea to hire Birding Victoria for a one-day tour, one that inclued WTP, there are at least two that would fit. I haven't contacted them yet, though, since we kinda like the idea meeting you two AND get to WTP.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Hummingbirder1 You can let us know what you would like to do. If we know that we'll be involved, we would want to go there early in the morning as that's the best time to visit. Birds are active and conditions are usually calm. The tour guides I've heard are fabulous though & if it means booking a tour in advance would be better, we won't be offended.😀 We live on the other side of town but we go to the WTP all the time so you can always "book us in". Nimal is a great tour guide & knows all the birds & where to go. If you have a car, we can also include our friend Tom who is great with tours of the WTP 😀 but otherwise we could always meet up with you in the Dandenongs instead if you prefer?? We don't mind at all. It would be lovely to meet you while you're in Melbourne.
      Duade's a lovely guy! I don't often comment on his page but when I have he has responded. He even said that next time we're in Winton Wetlands to contact him & we could meet up. That would be fun! 😀
