  • We had a mission: to see Pademelons & Platypus. Did we see them?? You’ll have to watch!
    We take you on a journey to see magnificent coastal scenery & natural attractions seen on the Tasman Peninsula, the Bay of Fires and across to the Tamar Valley.
    We visit Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary - www.bonorong.c...
    And we saw 29 wild birds & animals on this trip:
    • Yellow-throated Honeyeater
    • Non-native (but super cute) Bumblebee
    • Superb Fairywren
    • Silvereye
    • Eastern Rosella
    • Short-beaked Echidna
    • Laughing Kookaburra
    • Pied Oystercatcher
    • Sooty Oystercatcher
    • Kelp Gull
    • Grey Fantail
    • Crested Tern
    • Silver Gull
    • Brown Thornbill
    • Yellow Wattlebird
    • Black-headed Honeyeater
    • Green Rosella
    • Short-tailed Shearwater
    • Australian Fur Seal
    • Tasmanian Tree Skink
    • Eastern Spinebill
    • Bennett’s Wallaby
    • Red-bellied Pademelon
    • Grey Currawong
    • Tasmanian Native Hen
    • Black Swan
    • Southern Brown Bandicoot
    • Platypus
    • Social Huntsman Spider
    And one big footed puppy dog!!
    We stayed in some amazing accommodation surrounded by natural bushland and we travelled to some stunning pristine locations. We even saw a seal!

    What a magnificent view of the diving AND scratch-pausing Platypus! I'm officially envious 🙂

      We were pretty lucky to see the Platypus pause for a scratch (got to see a bit more body). I just would have loved him/her to stop scratching for two seconds & sit still for a photo 🤣 (but you can't have everything!) Actually the whole experience was absolutely fabulous! Neither of us had ever seen a wild Platypus before so everything was a highlight! 😄.... just a bit of a bummer that it was so windy watching the platypus that my tripod blew over & broke my zoom lens 🤪 Oh well... time for an upgrade!! ~ Karen

      @@naturephotographychallenge Well (about the subject of ones interest keeps moving) that's why taking video can be considered a leg up from photographing sometimes!
      About the lens:😧Uhm... good grief! Was it your bird-photo zoom? Or a "social photo" zoom? Did it happen at the end of the trip, so you didn't miss TOO many shots? (One missed can easily be considered to be too many!)

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Hummingbirder1 Yes it was my bird photo zoom lens! 😕I got distracted for a second and the wind just blew the whole tripod over... and crash! Fortunately we'd just about finished up on the last day with the platypus so I didn't miss out on anything. Now I'm home I'm back having fun with my 12-100mm pro lens which I love! The zoom that broke was a bit of a let down since I got it anyway! It was so stiff I was always missing shots!

      Brilliant! 😀 I hope you get there one of these days! The accommodation we chose ended up to be really good (Stieglitz was the nicest but we couldn't get the car up the steep gravelly driveway. Deviot was a little small & not as private as it looked in the video as the owner lived on the same property but the surrounding bushland was great). I just booked through Stayz & Airbnb. If you need any details or tips, feel free to ask any time! ☺ ~ Karen

    Nice video. Makes me definitely want to include Tasmania whenever I return to Oz. Small correction: there are more than one species of echidna. There's three Zaglossus species in New Guinea and one Tachyglossus in Oz and New Guinea.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah yes!! I meant to say 2 animals not species so you are totally correct! 😀 (Nimal said the same thing after I'd published the video..and he's supposed to be my video checker before it goes out! He missed that error!🤣) ~ Karen

    Tasmania doesn't like us
    WOW! What an epic holidays. You covered so much and so many beautiful birds, marsupials and wonderful coastline.
    I know who to call when I get rid of Huntsman Spiders.
    Thank you Karen for taking me along, loved watching this and brought back some memories of some of the places we have visited when in Tassie.
    I am glad some one still calls it the "Apple Isle".
    🍎 Have a great week guys.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's still the Apple Isle to us! 🍏 Though we could have renamed it the Windy Isle when we were there. So much wind in the second half of the trip that my tripod blew over at the Platypus spot and I broke my zoom lens. ... so to feel better, we bought an expensive local bottle of bubbly on the way back and farewelled Tassie
      Nimal is great relocating spiders. Huntsman spiders are awesome creatures. They're actually called Social Huntsman Spiders as they are gentle and friendly. 😀

      I need to hold a huntsman to get over my Phobia.
      Oh No, Lenses are so expensive to replace.
      Have a great day Karen and say hello to Nimal. 👍🏼🤠

      @@CowboyJojosAdventures Best tip to get over a phobia is to give a spider a name so they become your friend coz they're just as afraid of you as you are of them. 😊 Have a great day!

      I wish you had seen the platypus while you were in Tassie!! We only found where it was from another local person who told us where to go. We were so excited as we'd never seen one before (and we're Australian!! 🤣... they are so rare!!). Hoping the last trip back to Melbourne went well. Looking forward to your next video!! We'll miss your videos from Australia after you head off to your next adventure. It's been really fun watching your trips here. Very inspiring! 😀 ~ Karen

    I believe that Tasmania actually came from near the North American continent and isn't connected to mainland Australia(except for 'some' flora and fauna that snuck across!). Although I respect all nature, those Huntsman spiders still give me the.....!!!! Especially with surprise appearance whilst driving in heavy traffic! Great video as always. p.s where is best location around Westernport bay to see migratory birds? Thanks.

    • @naturephotographychallenge
      @naturephotographychallenge  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh yeah... you don't want a surprise Huntsman walking into view when you're driving!! 🤣 That did happen to us once but lucky we'd just been given some glasses as a present so we stopped the car & got the little guy relocated thanks to the glasses! 😀
      The best spots around Westernport to spot migratory birds is (1) Reef Island at low tide... make sure you get back before the tide starts to come in & (2) Stockyard Point (far end of Jam Jerrup)... can be difficult to get back along the beach when tide comes in though
