Sir, I know I am years late but I have a dad who is not a great father figure and I just wanted to say thank you, thank you so much! My dad has never said I am proud of you to me and this, this has made my day, thank you so much
I feel mostly the same but I can't really blame my dad because he grew up with one that wasn't the best but I know my dad is doing the best he can to make me happy he just doesn't know how to ask me how I am or how to say he's proud of me. Sometimea I'll come back here when I'm in a bad place mentally to know what it's like to have a dad that asks me how I'm doing so I can make sure my future kids are happier.

Bless your mom for coaching him. May you recognize that God is your real father, the one who will tell you he’s proud of you as you learn to hear his voice. May you find mentors along the way, and may you eventually (it can take a lifetime!) be able to offer understanding and forgiveness to your dad.

succ me just because I don’t typically pray doesn’t mean I don’t know how or that I haven’t done it in the past. I think it’s important that we all learn to connect with each other and he asked for prayers, so instead of doing something of my own spiritual path, I will meet him at his path. Our paths will meet in prayer, and then they can diverge. It’s okay that people have different paths, that doesn’t mean you can’t walk for a moment with someone else on theirs to show kindness, empathy, and respect.

tbh in my 24 years of life I've never heard anyone say they were proud of me; I know its silly, but I kinda want to cry at how genuine you seem. My own father battled his own demons and often took his anger out on myself and my family. This is the most wholesome channel I've ever seen and I'm so happy I stumbled upon it.
Its not silly. Hearing someone showing genuine proudness towards you is an amazing feeling that I hope you will still get to experience many times in your life!

I've never heard my Father say 'hey kids!" happily in my 16 years, and I never will because I cut ties last year when he became emotionally abusive while my Mother was in rehab. A lot of people tried to talk me out of my decision because you only get one Dad but that's not true!
