I forget how I found your channel but I really like your content. I really appreciate how you focus on small tools. I've found myself using almost the exact same setup including the mini knipex cobra and the victorinox manager
@@darthrevanakc great minds 😉😀 Thank you for watching… I guess I hadn’t realized that focus, but you are right… I don’t like a lot of bulk or fuss. I always appreciate simplicity and a minimalism… my growing collection of EDC do-dads is becoming a contradiction!… but at least it can all fit in a box. 😄
Nice to see someone try to travel with the flex through TSA. It's funny how inconsistent TSA can be from location to location. I live in southeastern Michigan. So If I want to fly I have to go out of Detroit metro airport. The last time I tried to fly out was just after the shoe bomber. TSA had everyone with a beard taking off their shoes. I had a Beard at that time so Ya I went through the extended search and pat down. Since then I'm done with flying unless I have no other option. Great video very informative. Just subbed to you have a great day.
@@charlesartificer2158 thank you for the watch, appreciation, and sharing your experience. Flying is such a pain… having TSA precheck one would think it could afford a modicum of trust given all it entails… just enough trust to keep my shoes on I suppose... Welp, at least I don’t have a beard. 🫤
another option to try is to pack a portable safe in your check-in luggage. travel gun safes without a gun but instead multitools/edc gear would add another separation layer from tsa stealing edc gear during baggage inspection. if you want to take that even further, research traveling with firearm rules. if you safely pack a flare gun in a pelican case with a lock only you can open, it can be used as an excuse to pack other things in there like edc gear. and include an airtag since they may claim they cannot find your luggage because firearm bags don't go through the carousel but instead have to be picked up in the back. tsa is very inconsistent that one should expect they will find a way to take something from you so i would leave the good gear at home or have a travel double, if not a collateral tool. this is in addition to what you already mentioned about mailing it to yourself and thrn mailing it back home. vaultek lifepod is one example.
@@iblackfeathers thank you… these are very good considerations if one plans to check a bag. I became a little familiar with checking a firearm last June when flying to Alaska for a motorcycle trip… my buddy brought his sidearm. It wasn’t a terrible hassle since we had to check other bags anyway. Mostly just a time suck and added layer of discovering the location for drop off and pick up. For me, I try hard not to check anything due to cost and time factors. But I’m on a motorcycle trip presently and had to pack a few hundred bucks worth of tools… here’s to hoping everything makes it through security on the way home… next time, I’m gonna look into a pelican case… of course my bag was already at the 50 lbs limit. 🤪🤦🏻 Good job thinking outside (or in this case, inside) the box. 😄
Used the Roxon with the awl three times Once to SEA, Once to LAX, and to New Zealand. It was in an open pouch and they looked at it let it go. Used the Olight Ute1 donut box cutter, I do not take the awl to New Zealand.
TSA is pretty unpredictable aren't they. I've flown with many motorcycle tools over the years, and one wrench got through countless times... until it didn't... it was like 7 1/8" long (max alllowed is 7"). It seems whether it's profiling or mood / personality the outcome will flex... even if a tool can pass per their own specifications... An extreme example: One guy had his Victorinox Jetsetter confiscated with the agent citing the scissors were too pointy (which they aren't)... and of course are well shorter than the 4" from pivot point stipulated as the maximum length, per TSA guidelines. At a certain point it's almost like bullying. I'm glad to hear your awl got through. I would never expect it to... it's pretty stabby. Good news, is if they stop you you can just get booted to the back of the line and come back without it (definitely recommend bringing one of those spacers)... just be sure you have time... some security lines, even with pre-check, are pretty long! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. :)
Thanks for another fun video. It cracks me up that you brought stuff to specifically see if the TSA would take it. I would never do that because I'd be so annoyed if they took anything. I have at least 1 SAK in every room of my house, but I've never brought one on a trip that required a flight. Especially for vacations, I've never really minded not having it. There have been times when I used a knife at a restaurant to cut off a loose thread when I would have just used the SAK, but it wasn't that big of a deal. We can almost always find something else that will do in a pinch. It just won't be quite as good as the SAK. So if we could bring them through TSA, I would.
@@LincolnWorld Hey Lincoln 🤠 Yeah, it was an investment in the experiment… but I hadn’t realized the box cutter issue because in the past I’ve only used something so small which doesn’t look suspect. 😬 I like to have a SAK when I travel but you are absolutely right… I would and have totally lived without one.
I can't believe I forgot to make an example of the Victorinox bit driver set. 🤦
