I am really happy you mentioned the Roxon Phantom! I don’t have the money for multi tools but a family member offered to get me a budget friendly tool of my choice for my birthday and after literally 2 months of research I got the Phantom. I use it all the time and it’s amazing. The pliers maybe not be hearty enough for everyone’s needs but they are more than enough for mine. I use the scissors all the time - easily one of my favorite parts. The tanto blade is surprisingly good and also gets tons of use. And the saw is also surprisingly good and has gotten some use. I haven’t used the screwdriver a ton, but it gets the job done when I have. The awl is also useful for awl-y things when I occasionally need it. Between the scissors, knife, and pliers I think the tool is easily worth it’s cost - if those are the things that matter to you at least. Thank you for the great video! 💜

You know how much I support leatherman in a few last years (go USA!) But. Speaking of the comments. So we all anticipating the Arc release tomorrow and all that hype, you know. I have to say that I have garage 005 and really liked it when I got it. When I've learned about the arc I decided to skip on it mostly bc it has no spring loaded pliers. So, I get emails from LM and so when it got on their website I commented one of the first. I said hey good tool indeed but I want spring loaded pliers on it. That's all I said. Nothing to crazy. Then it asks for your email and sends confirmation. I got emailed and confirmed that me is me. That was like what 4-5 days ago guess what. My freaking commented is still not there. Well one could say what's the big deal. However I believe that transparency is key in today's world. Now not only I doubt that I will buy arc when it comes out but might not support lm as much as I want to. So..now you know. I assume if they see negative comments they just don't post them...

I saw your review on the daicamping DL30 and decided to get one and I want to thank you very much for bringing it to my attention. 30mins after receiving it I ordered a 2nd one for my son for xmas. it is truly awesome. I have a Leatherman Surge Black Ninja edition that i carried for 8yrs and this one is going to be my preferred edc simply because of the screwdriver bits. we will see how it lasts in the long run but it looks and feels great and I could buy 6 of them for what my Surge cost. My personal favorite multi tool is the Gerber Armbar Drive (Slim or non). I had the slim and lost it and then purchased the non slime. I just love it for the size and having just the tools I like without anything I do not need. The slim is slightly more streamline.

Spare one for the glove box, spare one for the garage, spare one for the emergency kit... there's a lot of good use cases for a cheap-but-competent spare multi-tool stashed here or there, even if you have your higher-quality Regular.

I love my Multiforce and I have a $20 BIBURY, but I don't like how they don't have detents to lock the handles for when the wire coating gets jammed and you open it and the handles fold. SOG has the compound leverage system instead of the detents, which solves that issue that way. It doesn't happen often but it is a little annoying. For the most part I only notice this issue when old electrical tape leaves the wire sticky and you have to cut the wire end off. That being said, those cheaper multitools are alot of value for the money and I used them alot and will continue to use them. Awesome list and video. 😀

She used to have one that she got gifted a long time ago that she really loved, but it was stolen out of her car when she dropped it off at the mechanic. I'll save up for the Surge clone I think, it seems to have the most robust toolset, and she liked to keep it in the door of her car, so it wont be too big for her.

Late comment, but I've been carrying the SOG PowerPint for about 5 years. It's one of the smallest multi-tools i have, except maybe the leatherman micra, maybe? And that is a scissors tool, not a plier. Either way, you will almost forget it is in your pocket. They pretty much have a full capacity plier/cutter head, with compound leverage. The pliers' capacity is the same as much larger multis, with narrower jaw dimensions. It's become the most used multi-tool for me these days. My king sized Powerlock stays in my work bag now, not on my belt.
My two cent opinion says, buy one. You will see what I mean.

I carry a victorinox ranger and a mini vice-grip(if you are rich you can carry the crunch) coupled with a reciprocating saw blade pair(metal+wood).
However, vic craftsman may be a better choice due to the small pliers. At first glance these pliers look rubbish. However, its tips meet perfectly and is more robust than the style of mini pliers in nextool mini sailor(and many other models). I find many times where I need an extremely powerful pair of tweezers, yet not needing the the robustness of a needlenose.
A note is that I modified the victorinox tweezers to be perfect: I put a piece of sand paper in the jaw and move it to grind one side. Flip the sand paper in short intervals to alternately grind the sides until the tweezers meet at the tip. This, however, dramaticlly increases the surface area that the tweezers pinches, and you will be tempted to push harder because the lack of pressure and friction. This will cause the metal to bend and the tips to spread. To conpensate for this, take a coarse sand paper piece and hold it in the tweezers, move it in direction parallel to the tweezer to create micro "teeth" that grips because of increased friction and decreased surface area. Be sure to not use force though, as the tips will seperate and not hold, a light grip will easily remove hair from your arm if you modified it correctly. This modified tweezers saved me countless times when i need to grip and remove with great precision.
Upon seeing the modification of making a slot in vice-grips on your channel, I came up with a very good idea. There is a product called "speedy sticher"(old american brand) that is a heavy fabric stiching awl with auto thread-feeding. This feature a special needle/awl thingy that has a channel(slit) along it the thread passes through when held in a chuck. I figured that I would have a field expedient speedy sticher if i hold that needle in the modified vice grip, with the channel facing the "pin vice" so the thread can flow. Then I will attach a spool of thread to the tensioning bolt via some industrial linking piece. I thought of this because I was thinking of making a " modular mininalistic yet functional kit" that would allow me to produce stuff out of the material i come by(I intend to use it in my travels). I already have "tiny kit for utilizing tin cans", "micro kit for manufacturing woodcraft tools with scrap wood i find", "minimal rigging kit", "small supplies for making packframes and carry-ons", "general tool kit", "mini adhesive, hose clamp, fastener and zipties kit for personal repairs", "pocket hygeine and odd matters kit for common disconfort", "compact pvc tubular unit capable of forming into bucksaw, quick stool, shelfed pack frame, and small tripod". I was developing "cloth material utilization kit" and wanted to include a speedy-sticher for making things like ponchos from canvass or wool wears from old blankets

I agree about the Vic 91mm pliers being more robust than the folding pliers on tools like the LM Squirt, or Nextool Flagship Mini. The reason is that there's no articulation between the head and handles, it literally is a small pair of contiguously made pliers, sticking out of the SAK. Folding multitool pliers are only ever as strong as the join between handle and head. Furthermore it sits better in your hand than something like the Squirt, giving you more control, reach and leverage.
I have the Swisschamp in my rotation and it's great. The Craftsman is discontinued and although the Handyman - same as Craftsman but with backtool PHillips instead of corkscrew - did appeal to me, I really like the inline Phillips on the Champ.

My dad wants the Surge clone, BIBURY, since it's cheap, but he can use it to cut roots out of the garden and other backyard tasks. He does have a Leatherman, but refuses to use it like this. This is why I like a cheap multitool as well, but I never thought about cutting roots. I usually grab a axe for that. 😅

On my daicamping dl30, one of the wire cutters had the screw fall out, so I'd recommend adding some blue thread locker to it to keep the wire cutters in place. Other than that, it's a good tool.

I had the same thing happen on my Leatherman Surge. I lost a blade and screw and had to call Leatherman to get a replacement because the replacement blade kit was not available to customers in Canada. they sent me 1 set as a courtesy and said it was a one-time thing. basically don't ask again. so I was pleasantly surprised when i received my daicamping DL30 and it came with a spare set of cutters and tool to remove them!

Great selection of multitools for mods. The SOG pint caught our eye, could do wonders with those pivot gears. Thinking maybe implementing it to our next project, an insulated multitool which includes a laser that can measure distances & temperatures, flashlight etc. We always get some light bulb moment watching your show. Have you ever thought of doing a test on multitools in the fields? Like in the woods in a camping, trekking or survival situation? Cheers mate from Australia.

I have mixed feelings about the Sog Powerpint. It has good pliers, but the rest of the tools are not up to par: The knife needs to be sharpened, the bottle opener needs to be modified to have a flat screwdriver, the hook needs to be sharpened, the scissors don't cut well, the file on some units it does nothing, etc. I think it's only worth it because there aren't any more pliers-based multitools of that size.
I want to love it because is the only multitool that you can modify easily for a lefty. I think a 91mm Victorinox with a Knippex Cobra is a better option.

I really was hoping to see the True Titanium here.
Would seem right up the alley and I have been considering it as an office EDC, as an alternative to a Skeletool.
I get looks when I play with my wave (really not a knife culture there), but the Skeletool has some major shortcomings imo. And the bright red handle has that same vibe Victorinox can have: it diffuses that "woah, your carrying a weapon!!!" impression.
So since it is only for desk days when I wont need a robust tool it felt kinda appropriate.
Owh well, guess I'll just have to nag on every multitool review put on the channel.

This is one of the rare channels that appreciates brand and/or quality, but doesn't navel gaze on it.

Great list, diacamping DL30 is a great option. I modified my surge before the DL30 came out. My surge was broken , scissors didn't lock (wasn't impressed with the surge scissors anyway) cutters broke. Was looking for replacement parts for the surge when I found the DL30. The cost of the DL30 was less that the repair on my surge was going to be. Plus it came with extra cutters. I've been very happy with it. Not only can I repair it for less but can also replace it for less. Added two 6mm magnets to the bit driver and devised a compact standard 1/4" 40 bit carry. That and some other goodies are on my belt under my shirt at work. (Working in hotel maintenance). My goal is to be able to enter a room and be able to fix most everything with what I have on me. Especially when the guest is the room and I don't want them to have to try to enjoy their stay with a maintenance guy in there making allot of noise. Don't make allot of money. The DL30 is perfect. Often I'll carry two multi tools as they are always in competition. The goat is really shining bright as well as I work through find tuning it.

@@maxlvledc so many wow moments with the goat. The initial tool options and modularity have already made it one of those tools that make it feel like I'm missing something if it's not on my belt when heading to work. Basic tools striking end, 1/4" driver, medium flat, large flat, awl, scissors, serrated & standard blades, saw. Meet or exceed the potential of most multi tools right out the gate. Then the added exacto had been a huge plus. Very much appreciated platform. All we have to do is wait for the new inserts. A t-shank, diamond file, different blade styles, blanks to make the perfect awl or other tools, how about a gut hook, diamond file, serrated blade? And it's removable to sharpen your custom chisel. The potentiallys make my head spin. This tool is going to unfold into a whole new dimension awesome. 3d print scales that hold extra exacto blades. I could go on for hours. Yes the cutters were a problem, yes it's tricky to get just right. But you know all multi tools are tricky to get just right, people just aren't used to having to tweek there tool like is modders. Oh quick tip use a T9 not a 2mm hex to work with the pivot screws, screws are too soft. Anyway, I ask people to support the goat tool project and to be pro innovation, figure it out improve it, and let the wows roll. I have faith in a team with the guts to make a tool like the goat tool. I'll find your email to update you

Great video. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge! I am really satisfied I already have and regulary use both your first options.
Indeed, the PowerPint is maybe the tool I carry the most on EDC; fully agree its the perfect companion to a medium size foldable knife, it's only weak point are the scissors, whick are just OK... they work, but not too good. The PowerPint with a pair of Victorinox scissors may be the perfect tool for EDC, period. I love it so much I have 4 units, one of them permanently at work, other one permanently on my travel box, and the third one in a crate for replacement, just in case xD.
I don't use the Bibury HD so much because I have the Leatherman Surge too, and when I need to carry a big multi on his sheath I take the original one... I love its construction and details. But I must say, if you are not a blade and multi freak as I am, and you just want a nice big multitool for standard use, the Bibury is a much better quality-price option.

The way they mounted the blade really hurts it usefulness because the plier head would get in the way of cutting. IF the blade would have been mounted to where the blade would open the other way and when opened the plier head would be pointed down, that would go a long way.
