Can the novelty and flexibility of being able to swap tools overcome its weaknesses? Maybe. But it ought to improve.

    Hi Daphne !!! Great video as usual. I have several roxon tools & they are as you say junk. They don't hold up. I call this my great multi tool delama !!! LoL. The idea of the multi tool is great but the weight factor is not for me. My favorite multi tool is the Leatherman P4 Free. So !! I do alot of camping & outdoor activities. The tool I use the least is the pliers as well as several of the other tools on the Leatherman. The tools I use the most are a knife, scissors, screwdriver & canopener. I Iooked on ebay & found a broken Serge someone was selling for forty dollars. I tracked it for a while & saw no one was interested so I made an offer that was accepted. I removed the plier head & now have a two pretty heavy duty pocket knives. The whole conversion took ten minutes. Thank You -- Joe --

      Interesting on the Surge. It is a conundrum… I too love the multitool in concept but not the weight and bulk. It’s probably why I keep returning to SAK options as such relatively small form factor (and high quality!) meets my needs at least 95% of the time.

      @@AhmadRiyal on principle it's hard to endorse a multitool with such poor tolerances. It just feels so darn cheap too. While I am amped by the concept and that it could be used for travel by picking a permissible tool set... I think I'd rather travel with something like the Milwalkee Fastback and buy a utility blade at my destination, and maybe pair it with a Knipex plier. I don't wanna spend the $, but I'm now interested in how the GOAT tool feels in hand. I'll make another video soon with another option from Roxon once the multitool stork delivers it to me. ;)

    It's crazy you made this video. I have been thinking about this quite a bit. I don't know what some right answers might be. Is it bad to be too confident? Should we train to fight? When is a firearm not a good answer? These are complicated questions.

    • @daphnedevi
      @daphnedevi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @thevineclimber I do, I know the right answers!... ha... maybe... 1) I think it's important to project confidence, but also be very aware of our limitations. I also think hyper vigilance often projects insecurity... there's a balance there. 2) Definitely we should learn and practice self defense fighting tactics; though I have not. 3) About carrying a lethal weapon... After talking to some law enforcement friends I landed on... A firearm is a tremendous risk unless one trains consistently and frequently with high pressure drills. In other words, for most civilians guns are a potential legal cluster fudge and significant risk to self (such as if overcome) and/or to over penetration harming victims (especially in a city). (I've seen an experiment where "good guys with a gun" were put in a mock scenario with an active shooter and they were all confident in their ability to perform well prior to entering the experiment. Yet none were successful in hitting the assailant, and all were shot in the scenario. On the other hand, maybe 6 years ago a female motorcyclist was assaulted here in Seattle. In a traffic jam road rage scenario a guy blocked her, took her to the ground, and started pounding on her. She was carrying, shot him once in the stomach, and he died. She was justified, and she may have saved her life, or certainly reduced her level of injury. But her legal bills were still huge, and now she has the PTSD of killing someone even if he had it coming. So, on this gun question... I guess it is complicated.)

    • @daphnedevi
      @daphnedevi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      🤪 After riding them a while, I am not in love with these tires. I haven’t yet taken them on any dirt/gravel trails where they may be fine. I just don’t love them on pavement, and I’ve ridden something like a dozen different dual sport tires on various bikes without prior complaint re road manners. I really hate them on grooved pavement or grated bridges… again, no other dual sport tire bugged me in these areas. Although, in some cases I think my impression of poor grip in hard riding in the twisties may actually be more related to the antiquated suspension. ☹️

    I just picked up my 2nd TU yesterday, 2013! I want to put the same tires on that you put on yours. What size are they? Did you have to adjust the fenders at all to accommodate for the size? Thanks!

    • @daphnedevi

      I think larger than I went would require a front fender adjustment due to knobs. (As you noted, sizes in video. 😄)

I can tell you about some amazing places that most people that live here don't even know about, and would be worth you driving through or stopping to take a look at. I did not… I hopped a plane and joined old friends for their bucket list wish to see blue whales. I did however rent an teeny motorcycle down here for a ride into the hills. I’ll probably make a little video of that too. I rode in your area a couple years ago… some hills east of the observatory, Kern River Valley, southern Sierras (scared myself nearly to death getting stuck in some snow up there), Death Valley, Titus Canyon, Joshua Tree, and much of Malibu Hills. Did I miss anything important? Your offer is so sweet, thank you. If I’m that way I’ll holler, and likewise if you are in Seattle, gimme a shout out.

      Glad you are getting to do some riding on the trip, and that you get to hang out with friends! I don't live near the Kern River, but not too far from there is a place I have visited a few times. "Cat House on the Kings". It's on the Kings river, and is a cat rescue ranch. They have a few small dogs too, but usually around 700-1000 cats all wandering the property. I was followed by over 20 cats constantly while there, and every time I sat down, as many as possible would try to sit on me. LOL. It was great! Thanks for the offer if I'm in Seattle. I have only been there once, way back in the 90's for a few days. If it weren't for the rain, I'd have probably moved there. My Mom and I have talked about meeting up in Seattle since she lives in the middle of nowhere in OR. If it happens, I'll let you know. @@daphnedevi

      That would be a very nice little set up. Sadly, not possible in a one layer knife. It should likely be possible to do a two layer knife with one being the blade and cap lifter, and the other the phillips and magnifying glass… it’s amazing how often a combination seems like it should work, but it will not. Realizing this is what derailed me from fussing about with more modification experiments of just trying to redo SAKs with oem parts. These experiments are expensive and require pulling apart well made tools. 😬
