My rescue Basset recently passed away. My family has had over a dozen different breeds, I find the Basset the most friendly and lovable of any others I know. A low energy dog compared to most but great with kids and people in general. Not a good guard dog, mine only barked when she was happy. My next dog will be another Basset.
Oh my gosh! I love Bassets. I struggled long and hard between a Bassett and a Beagle mix. I worried about training as I am employed 40/week . I am also 5 minutes from home. I read over and over that Bassets are hard to train. Ultimately I adopted a Beagle mix. She is a delight. Now 9 years old. She’ll bark to defend her home from cats, dogs and squirrels. Her recall is mediocre. She snores. I live her so much. She is actually a mess x of Bassett, Beagle, JRT. Has the typical characteristics of a hound without the bay. I’d have loved the bay lol.
They absolutly do not swim well at all as a matter of fact those long backs and short legs cause them to tire and drown! Not so smart dog lover giving such untrue facts that could lead to people throwing there bassets in water! Basset hounds should have a life vest on and never be made to swim as they can sink like a stone! Many bassets have drowned. Please do your research before making dog breed info videos!

Bassets are the best ever , love my two boys , they make me laugh lots with there funny characters 🐾🐾
I disagree on one point,. I've never met a basset that didn't get excited to meet new people and would warmly greet any total stranger.

Basset hounds can not swim! I’ve had three and they just sink.

Not at all as long as your basset dosn't start meowing.
