A lot of dogs gotten during the lockdown have socialization issues. As Victoria noted, in takes care and patience to get them used to other dogs and people.
@@flipnshiftyyour dog should never bite you, to initiate play. It’s not appropriate and dangerous. There are many examples of high drive high energy dogs out there, who KNOW not to bite their owners or handlers because they will be punished for that, same reason that dog would be punished by another dog for biting them
These titles are so clickbait-y, but the videos are really nice. I love how a bit of learning on both the human and canine side can improve their life together drastically
Some dogs are just very calm and cooperative and when you've raised a calm and cooperative dog you think you know how to raise dogs because you've had a dog most of your life and it was very good and if that's been your only experience and then you get a little hell-raiser and none of the things that worked with calm dog are working with the hell-raiser it really can feel like you've tried everything. They just needed to learn new tactics.
I don't even have a dog but I love watching your videos, it is so inspiring seeing everyone figuring things out along the way and creating such a beautiful relationship
She is a one yr old German Shepherd doing one yr old German shepherd things. She needs to go to obedience school, plus they need to have her do lots of play, physical activities to get all of that energy out! Socialization skills can be taught with the right trainer also.
This dog needs CORRECTONS, not cookies. Turning around when a dog bites you? Really? That lady will be seriously injured one day. She is rich so she will pay people, right?
I don’t understand how people believe living & breathing animals aren’t a 24/7 365 type of commitment, get one & then are shocked how much work some can be, especially a young GSD.
I knew this would work as long as they followed the instructions from Victoria. German Shepards are some of smartest dogs out there. I used to have one named Angel. I miss her. She died quite a long time ago. Because of my conditions, I can't handle a dog anymore. She lived up to her name. Protection and sweetest dog on my block and that's saying something.
6:01 I have two 110 lb male Golden Retrievers, and I use pronged choker collars to make them behave. I waited to long the get them, honestly, but they really helped their behavior. The pulling stopped. I can control them so much better! Also I walk themtwice a day a total of 4-5 miles, every day rain or shine. Exercise will help behavior too. As for socialization I took them to the local dog park almost every day for their first year. I've learned so much over 6 years!
I love Victoria's training style & this was the best of all. I recently acquired a rescue dog who's young but been to multiple homes, including one who threatened to euthanize her b/c "She is feral." What she is, tragically is a Kelpie, &n uber-high-energy cattle dog who should be out on a ranch, running all day non-stop, with a pack of herding dogs. Instead, she had little or no training as a puppy and was "rescued" but had to be kept in a garage for a rather long time b/c the rescuers other dogs would attack her & steal her food, & I don't even know how many other homes she has been in. The last one was successful but after about a month the owner got a job in the city so she was up for adoption again. She is fearful & spooky & mouthy & paces , won't go into any room that looks like a trap, plays so rough that my sweet gentle boy dog no longer wants to play with her. But she is sweet & is trying so hard. This video is gold for me---wish Victoria could come help me out, I'm a decent trainer but never had a dog like this one. We have to make this work.
Love your videos.. great show title "Its Me or The Dog" !! Was wondering if you have any videos on dogs/puppies that are NOT aggressive, but rather are generally social but will display odd behavior either with harnessing (moving away from/low to the ground/hiding) & not coming when called/bold/timid/not wanting to pee outside.
@@lisafoster4468 My point is that this is still a new episode to a lot of people even if not to you, which is probably the point of reposting it if it's been posted on the YT channel before.
Unfortunately its called the terrible 2s not for nothing. After 2yrs old or upon reaching 2 yrs old they tend to settle down a little bit. I realized that all over again after i took in a rescue pup. They test the boundaries, they are defiant, they are noisey 😂 but you gotta just keep at the training with boundaries
“The dog’s being aggressive!” they cry while the dog play bites and clearly shows signs of excitement at the other dog. They had a GSD previously, and they don’t recognize signs of excitement or what play-biting is? And yeah, play-biting is a problem at that size, but it’s a lot easier to address and if it was aggression they would’ve needed stitches by now.
They should’ve started training with her when they first got her thank God she still only a year old so hopefully they can train her well and I get it. They’re not used to it. They had a senior dog that you know didn’t need training wasn’t so rambunctious, but they should’ve thought with a puppy most likely the puppies gonna be out of control. Very rarely you have a puppy that’s chill.
I've just trained my dogs to "ask" if they are allowed on the sofa or not independent of if there's other people around or not. It works really well for us. They put their head on the couch and look at me. Ether I say "go ahead" or I give them a different command. No stress involved.
My GSD has the Roam harness from Woolly Wolf, my Malinois has the ‘side by side training harness’ from Hunter, very similar to the one used in this vid (also providing double leash option with or without an additional collar). Both absolutely destroyed the Julius K9 harnesses within weeks. My GSD is a very good girl, my malinois is in the height of puberty and a Houdini (almost dislocated her shoulder in a Julius K9 harness trying to wrestle herself out of it). The harnesses from Hunter are very well adjustable, my small dog also has a Hunter harness. The ones from Woolly Wolf are great for dogs with more coarse fur (less friction or risk of locking in hair with closing of the harness). Hope this will help
For dogs who pull, just a harnass isn't ideal - it reinforces and it doesn't give you much control. I have used a harness/collar combi, but I'm on just a collar now. Calmth is key
Dam and I got attack by a German Shepherd at 9 and in 2023 he attacks a kid just because he was walking past, he just jumps out and almost killed the kid like really and not going to put it down after attacking 2 kids or more by now like I got PTSD because of that and still suffer from it
These 2 have 0 alpha in their blood. They shouldn't own a GSD or any "strong character" dog. Also: Phoenix clearly has an abundance of energy. Edit: What does this women mean "cross your arms"? This dog needs corrections! This positive reinforcement bs is precisely why these type of dogs are a problem in the street. They need a strong leader to boss them every once and a while.
I grew up with large breeds... Akitas, Chows, Rotties....I never understood people who could get large breeds and are not prepared to train them to not pull on the lead, mouth, and jump all over people. What did they expect to happen when they pick these large, intelligent, and active breeds? A couch potato?
Why do people allow dogs on the sofa at all, it evaluates their height? Other times, you say off if other people are around, it sends mixed messages to the dog. It’s better just to say no completely to being on the sofa.
I’m not so sure about the bigger breeds that could do some serious harm/have natural territorial instincts, but we’ve always let our two (my sweet Charlie, senior now and he’s in my room - imagine a corgi with flat ears and a long tail) and Lucy, a beagle who passed) on the couches and beds. Other than Lu who didn’t get potty trained well, we didn’t have an issue with it. They loved anyone who came around - their rights to the sofa are the same, but they never made a big deal if there were too many people (very rare for us, basically never happened) and for the most part were obedient (well, except for Charlie who just has negative one brain cells) and gentle things. When the dog gets… that big? Yeah, as this video demonstrates, a little bit of disobedience or distress can be a genuine issue. Still, if a dog’s generally a sweetheart I don’t see why they can’t go on the couch (well, other than the mess)
I have a large dog (GSD/Dutchie/ACD mix, 1.5yo) and she is allowed on the couch. The only time she is not allowed is when she is misbehaving, and she knows it! We have an “off” command so she knows when she needs to get off, and we use “leave it” if she is being stubborn about wanting to be on the couch. We have no issues with getting her off the couch when we need to (which honestly is mostly when I’m cleaning it) and she is a great dog! The issue is when people allow their dog to misbehave on the couch/bed or to become possessive of it.

Nothing you could actually do but what they should’ve done at least Her outback played with her got rid of some of that energy. It might’ve helped her behavior inside the house and if you were able to take her for a walk, take her for walks constantly just get out of the house. I know you’re gonna have to wear a mask and what not but at least try to socialize. If you know anybody that has a doggie that doesn’t mind coming over your house and you know they test negative for Covid. Bring their dog over. Have you interact with the dog and your dog get used to that dogall these things could’ve been done even though it was a lockdown
