Hey, I followed your video after buying a soldering kit and the IR reciever on Amazon...$40 all in. I have a Bose Cinemate GS I Home Theater Speaker set. The red light would come on (standby) but could not power up (no green light). I confirmed the remote is working. So I did the repair and all is working fine now. Dude you ROCK!

I had little hope of finding out why my Bose system wasn’t working. I found this 8 year old video and tried it. It works perfectly! I’m literally ecstatic that I was able to fix this with an Amazon $15 soldering kit and $14 IR module. I spent about $30 and it was worth every penny! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!

I've got to give my seal of approval on this fix.
The video is a bit rough but I can confirm that this fix absolutely worked for me.
I just bought this series 1 Bose Cinemate and when I got it it didn't turn on but the stand by light was on and the guy said no returns. So I thought I was out $200 but I found this video and tracked down a radio shack that carried the IR 38khz receiver and picked one up. An hour with my soldering iron replacing it and it immediately worked once I hooked it back up. Not a job for someone brand new to soldering but do some practice board work and you could get the job done.
Thanks so much for having this fix out on the internet it really made my week to not loose that $200.

    Hey Man, You rock!
Thanks! I have the exact same problem and was about to take the amplifier apart thinking the fault would be with the power module.
Also, if you're that adventurous, try picking up discarded big screen TVs on the roadside and take a swing at fixing them. I've fixed four of the five I've picked up. Problems are usually popped capacitors, that can be bought and soldered back on for about three dollars a piece.

LOL your video is sooooo much better than mine. Although my problem was more obvious. An animal (or chair) chewed through the cable of that receiver in my neighbor's system. I told him I would attempt to fix it, but can't guarntee anything. He felt the same level of happiness that his precious bose was working again.

I had the same issue and I watched the video and was about to attempt the process also, but I kept digging the internet and Bose has a factory rest and if you disconnect the module from the acoustic Mass for 30 seconds, it will factory rest your system and may correct the IR from not working. It worked for me so anyone trying this, maybe try that first and you may get lucky like I did. However your video was very informative and I would have tried it if I didn't stumble across that soultion.

Completely Awesome Bro BOSE Tech Support is Total BS they were trying to sell me a new remote and a new receiver that’s not much of a solution anyone can go out and buy something new to replace something old.

    • @mrwhosmynameagain
      @mrwhosmynameagain ปีที่แล้ว +1

The tech support purposely misled me, I kept saying I think it's the receiver and he kept saying that I needed to buy the brand new 2023 system. He didn't even recommend buying a new $80 receiver. I laughed hysterically at him when he suggested spending $2000. From the looks of it, this is a common problem. So he would've known prior that it was likely the system interface. But nope, he went straight into recommending throwing mine away and spending $2k on a brand new system

I'm going to give this a go. I've got everything except the replacement ir sensor. This is the second unit that has failed me and I think it's gotta be some design flaw that causes the sensor to croak after about 5-6 years. So I'm gonna order several as they can be had online very cheap. If it doesn't work afterwards, I'll just have to buy another sensor unit but, I hope not.

@mrwhosmynameagain not yet. I just ordered some though. I forgot what frequency the receiver was and couldn't find this video. I got a set of 5 and they're expected to arrive in 2-3 weeks. I'll update when they arrive and I'll get right to installing it as I'm tired of seeing the system just collecting dust.
update: the sensors have arrived. i'm going to get on it this weekend!

How is that repair holding up for you? I did the repair, it worked, but then a few moments later after reassembly it stopped working. I figured the IR module was crap, so I replaced it... nothing. Replaced it again... nothing. I think there is either a problem with the remote, or something deeper inside the unit.

Were you getting the red standby light on yours and it just wouldn't turn on, or was it totally dead? I'm getting no indicator light on mine when it's plugged in and it won't turn on. I reseated the power and module cords with no luck. I believe the internal power supply in the main sub unit died on mine but I can't figure out how to get it out. Took the back cover off and the power/amp module seems to be built into the cabinet with no way to get it out and I can't find any disassembly videos for the subwoofer section. The fins of the heatsink are recessed into holes in the side of the inside of the cabinet like the cabinet was built around it and it won't come out without destroying it. Please let me know if you've ever had yours apart. Thanks

    Awesome video Dave,
I finally got to see what is inside this little black box. I was given CineMate I last year from my friend who lost the box and now the system is just taking space in my cupboard, thankfully to your video I've managed to draw the circuit from the pcb and I am on my way to replicate the box. However I missing the last puzzle piece, this is the pinout of the connector i.e. which pin of the connector to which cable is connected on the pcb. See the image:
    s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/4e/d1/4c/4ed14cf0d05e26061724009d969c1f1f.png

    thanks in advance !

Does your remote work? You can check it with the camera of your phone, which turns the ir to visible light. If you don't see the ir diode of the remote blinking, it's the remote it diode that's broken and not the receiver end.
