Your review is really well made and in depth. Even for a guy like me who doesn't know a whole lot of stuff for everything sound related, it was easy to understand. You go into every single meaningful detail. Very nicely done indeed. I also watched your video for the Steelseries Nova 7, and i'm having a hard time trying to decide between this one and the Nova 7, but your videos helped tremendously.
Keep up the good work Sir!

Recently discovered your channel, immediate subscribed and liked. Love your content. Incredibly through, detailed oriented, and transparent. Thank you!
Very satisfied with this headset! I’ve owned Astro A50s and A40TR and I’m very impressed with the audio quality produced by Stealth 700. The only issue I had was updating the firmware on MAC; do not update your firmware on MAC OS AudioHub because it bricks the transmitter (known issue with other users). ONLY update your firmware on a Windows machine.

First off, what a great channel. I only discovered it through my search for Arctis Nova Pro reviews. Having watched the review, I decided the Arctis Nova Pro was not for me (no Sonar compatible software for console).
I find the channel offers unbiased reviews, and does a great job of providing in-depth details, which many others fail to highlight; it is why I searched it for a review of the TB’s.
Based on the review, I purchased the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max for PS5.
Having used them for around 5 hours, I find them, on the whole, comfortable, although, the headband does dig in to my scalp and causes a little discomfort after a couple of hours of use. I think that’ll improve with time.
The sound out-of-the-box was a little disappointing, but that was remedied with the ‘Bass + Treble Boost’ preset - this, IMO, really sounds great, and I’m really happy with the sound detail (situational awareness is great, too, for WZ: DMZ) and fullness. Very immersive sound.
The headset was easy to set up, and the iOS app works well.
My only concern at this point is the ear cup mounts. The mechanism that allows the cups to pivot look a little weak.
Having used a Logitech Pro X wired headset for the past 2.5 years, the TB’s are a real step-up to what I’m used to, and I’m finding lots of additional sound detail I didn’t hear before.
I would definitely recommend the Turtle Beach for PS5.

Thanks for the best review I've seen on this headset! I just retired early at 60 and I'm new to gaming. The 700 Gen2's arrived today. I'm moving to South East Asia and this stuff is more expensive there because of the import tax, so I'm getting all my other electronics updated as well. I may be 60 and new to gaming, but I'm a total technophile. Most of my friends my age have no idea what I'm talking about most of the time, so many of my friends are much younger. I watched another review on these by another TH-camr who has a TON of subscribers and, although his shtick is entertaining, his reviews are not much help at all. Based on yours I'm going to send my 700 Gen 2's back tomorrow and get the 700 Gen 2 Maxes. I've seen some of your other videos and, I have to say, I'll be tuning in regularly. Btw, because of my former profession, sound is really important to me and I was thinking about spending $300, but not now. If I really enjoy gaming, I'll spend a lot more for good sound. Because of your honesty and thoroughness, you just gained a new subscriber. Great video man. Thanks again!

PSA for the clamp force: if you bend the middle of the head band it lowers the clamp force substantially. I did that on my old 700 gen 2s and they were much more comfortable for longer gaming sessions. It didn't affect the headset in any negative way, it still worked perfectly.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Thanks for saying this. I try to be careful here because I don’t want to be the reason why someone breaks theirs if they bend too hard. I loosened mine up a bit as well and it’s perfect for me.

Sound from bluetooth playing same time with game is at dramatic low level. Game audio cover the sound of the phone, even when you max the bluetooth sound. And when you use only bluetooth (Xbox is off) you can hear cracks and noise no matter if you listen streaming or recorded sound. I've been watching all of your latest reviews between this, the nova pro wireless, and Sony's new wireless offerings... and it seems like this is the best bang for buck while offering multi-device connection. My main goal is to use discord chat via my Google Pixel 5a while playing Warzone on PS5. The mobile app this headset offers along with the mic's sound quality are big wins over the nova pro wireless. The only drawback to me seems visual with the placement of the boom mic being higher than the corner of the mouth. I would have liked to see that rotate downward more, but thankfully the mic offers great quality. Thanks for taking the time to offer such great reviews! Waiting to hear back from TB customer support so I can make sure to give these a fair chance. I'm really not a fan of losing a good chunk of game volume when I'm using both wifi and Bluetooth though (PS5 and Discord via mobile app). If they come out with another firmware update that solves that, I could live with the currently non-functional button(s). 🤷‍♂️

Hey man. Congrats on another great review, I’ve been waiting for this one and I really liked it. I recently got the Penrose X (I also use your review for it) and I have not had connection issues since I did some tweaks (played with the WiFi channels/set up & I also got an USB extension for the dongle haha) but have been struggling with the comfort. I really like the sound and I know I can fix the comfort by swapping the earpads (seen some videos on YT) and adding some Dekoni pads to relief the headband pressure on my head but…that would just increase the $ I’ve already paid (PSA I didn’t paid full MRSP, got them with a $50 discount) for it so I’m not sure it’s worth it. I still have some days left on my return window and I’m not sure what to do, would you say the sound of the Penrose X would justify this over the Max 2s? Or should I send the Penrose back and get these ones? Appreciate it!

So I was putting some thought into this one. I think the 700 Gen 2 is simply easier to use over the years of ownership, because all the controls are intuitive and consistent. The Penrose wins on pure sound quality potential, but that's about it. You can boost bass and pull down the highs slightly and make the Penrose X sound absolutely bonkers. Dekoni pads will help with ear comfort (not clamp force much) which can make a difference. The pads change the sound quality as well so I wouldn't tune the sound until after you swap pads.
The 700 Max just gives you more for your dollar. They don't get as loud as Penrose X but they get loud enough, and I like how easy they are to use (even the flip to mute is a blessing compared to the physical switch on the Penrose X). The battery life of the 700 Max hits about 3 times as much as Penrose.
Short version? Penrose X ultimately still has the best sound. 700 G2 Max is the best overall product for the price, considering how much you get, and it still sounds great.

@@GadgetryTech Yeah, I agree. I just got my wicked cushions a couple of hours ago (a bit after posting this) and I just made the change, I honestly can say it does improve the comfort by miles and doesn’t modify the sound too much, as I matter of fact I could say it increases soundstage somehow…but that’s subjective to each individual. And with the mods I’m now back to the $300 dlls mark and I’m not sure that sound quality will justify the $100 extra dlls, but again that’s up to each individual. Appreciate the conversation and keep if the awesome reviews!!!

Great review again, Joe! The headset seems to be pretty much what I expected; a nice upgrade for an already solid gaming headset, but probably not worth a full-price purchase for the owners of the previous model. At least unless they really need a solid headset for multiple platforms.
I must say that the new color option looks pretty cool, even though I usually prefer my headsets black. In this case I might prefer the blue one.
The only thing that I am a bit surprised that they were not able to keep the phenomenal mic quality of the previous model. I am not saying that it sounds bad by any means, but it sounded like a minor downgrade in comparison with the previous model of the headset.

Thanks Anssi! The mic is actually the same as the original. The original's mic only sounded better on the Xbox direct pairing version, because Microsoft has a proprietary wireless protocol that also provides more bandwidth to the mic audio signal. This allows microphones to sound incredible, but only when connected to Xbox. The PS5 version of the original 700 gen 2 has a mic that sounds the same as the new Max version. Hope that helps!

The main thing is that the headset's sound quality and tuning is similar, as I personally, too, like the Turtle Beach signature sound. Also the ease of using the different headset functions is great. If only they had included even better EQ adjustment possibilities as well. But as said, the signature sound is already pretty ideal for most games, so I think it is not really a problem.

Hi Zohaib. So I've had issues with direct pairing headsets in general on Xbox Series X when using my Elite 2 controller. Hi Rory! So I touched on this briefly in the review but sorry if this wasn't clear. As of now, my 700 G2 Max has a master volume for all. The top volume wheel controls the max volume for everything. Which means you can't use the headset master volume wheel to lower game volume while keeping Bluetooth volume louder. Even if you assign the secondary wheel to BT volume, it's still limited by the master volume. Not sure if this will change down the road but that's how it works on mine and I've tried a few times.

The Portals do not have simultaneous BT though so you cannot play wirelessly at the same time you have a BT audio source playing. The 700 gen 2 max also seems to have more bass down low, so if you like the rumble effect, they are great at it. Hi great review. I am in the market for a new headset for work and gaming but I currently live/work remote in an RV with an extremely loud AC. How is the outside noise blockage on these? ITs really hard to find something that stays wireless and has active noise canceling or good ANC but if these have good passive noise canceling I think these are what I want.
