You sir are a lifesaver. I was always curious about the heat settings of a lot of DIY channels that seemed to bake the headlights, at least now I know and even better, I didn't know that you could use a heat gun.
Good video mate! I'm just about to split my insignias afl headlights and re seal as I've got lots of water ingress. I'm now confident I can do this through watching your video 😁👍🏻
READ THIS, it will save you 12 hours of work!!!! You probably struggling same as we all did, you tried to follow the steps and it's not coming of whatever, plastic melts and glue is not! They short answer you are not applying enough heat! Now notice, hes got a heatgun setup so it's always blowing - DO THAT! Get gloves! Bake in oven your headlight for 25 minutes for 100 degrees celclius - NOT NECESSARY, AS GLUE WILL HARDEN VERY QUICKLY ANYWAY! Heat the cover more than the plastic! Try not to touch plastic, just slightly prime in one area, and heat, heat, heat, the bloody cover will melt and WILL BE FLIMSY - Keep doing it and TRY TO PULL, IT WILL WORK. Dont give up and apply more heat in right place! Ideally it's 3 man job, one holding, one pulling VERY HARD, one heating CONSTANTLY! Once its out use 🔥 HOT SCREWDRIVER to remove the glue inside! Patient, slow and confident! Good luck!
I have a Mercedes Benz R350 2010. Do you know by any chance what need to be remove in order to take headlights out? I need to do the same thing. Replace the lens covers. Nice instructional video. Thank you!
You can order it online it's always been plastic not glass designed to protect pedestrians. Dealerships and auto parts stores only sell the entire light which is $2000-$3000!!!! Lens covers online are $50-$100. I think I'm just going to buy the cover and hire a mechanic to do it. Hopefully charges me $40 or so for 1 hour labor.
@tiptopmechanic1155 Hi, I saw your amazing video to replace the headlight cover. I'm not sure I have the necessary skills to do it myself. If I provide both side lamps and replacement covers and butyl, how much would you charge to do the replacement for me?
I have a 2010 E-350 bi-xenon curvelight. i've been using a 1000F heat gun for 2 days and can't budge the lens cover. Could this be the newer glue and do you have any suggestions? Also there were no clips holding the cover. Thanks
It's far easier to get a cardboard box big enough for the light to comfortably fit in , put the light in the box and seal it up , cut a hole roughly 4 inches round in one corner, place the heat gun in the entrance to the hole and leave it on for about 15 minutes, making sure the light isn't in direct fire of the heat gun , take it out of the box, should be hot but the lens will come of easily 👍
@@sherzodlayev I tried it on my buster w213 light. Just would not pull apart. Only by literally cracking and scrapping out the glue. Ended up buying a new light off Ebay.
Hi mate I got same issue with Kia Sportage 2021 light , do you have any contact with Chinese friend , need glass for my light … can’t find any where yet … be great if you could help
Please, please help me. I've tried using a heat gun for hours, but I can't get the headlight cover to budge. It appears to be a different type of glue. 2010 Mercedes E-350.
Warm uo the seal all the way around. Then in the narowest corner jeep heating up and try to slowly widen the gap. I am talking about just few mm. Once you have thise few mm the from that point keep warming up in one side and another and alowly keep going. Otherwise you vlcan try to put entire headlight into Owen warming up to 100 degrees but tgat comes up with varioua risks.
Maybe just take your car and parts to a local mechanic or body shop. They will probably charge you $50 to $300 tops and your less likely to have issues with it.
@@tiptopmechanic1155 its not varnish its acetone which breaks down glue, I thought maybe if you brushed it carefully around the seal it could break down the butyl so the lens can it be separated, ? it would save energy if it worked.
have a car mercedes s w221 2013 from Japan, and there you drive on the other side. I live in Austria and would like to replace the projectors in my car in the hope that only by replacing the projectors will the car's headlights comply with EU regulations again. Is this possible just by swapping projectors? please help!
if your is butyl you can put it in the oven in 15min at 90degC, push butyl a bit better than this guy, preheat 15min at 90degC. once assembled spray with washing liquid, block vents and blow air inside to check if its correctly sealed
I can 100% verify this video is spot on. I did it this morning and it took me less than 1hr end to end (including taking it off the car). Heat gun is 100% needed though.
I got to agree with you. Have a broken e class W213 and I tried a heat gun. It started to burn the plastic. Tried a hairdryer. Again it did not budge. The only way it was pulling apart from buy smashing up each section and manually pulling out the the glass and glue. I tried with all my might to try and pull it apart. Even when heated the glue is still like rubber. Thinking maybe this doesnt work on all lights. This light looks older but it also looks like it may have been resealed previously.
Great video! I was about to order a new headlight for £800 but instead paid £80 for a new lens! Lifesaver!!!! Thank you
