it's not that powerful. I want to make one with High Voltage Capacitors (this one only uses 20 amps that power supply gives at 12 v but if we use 400 volt Capacitor Banks the Current at a short time would be 400/12*20=660 A!) and the Coils shouldn't be powered with equal Voltages, because the time projectile spends in each coil decreases while it's speed increases, so less energy it gets from subsequent coils, and if we design for Coil efficiency each Coil should deliver equal amount of Energy to the Projectile so less time should be made up for by a stronger Magnetic Field.
My new coil design will be interesting 0.5mm wire max current 577mA but 173wires wound and soldered in parallel is 100amps, i think it's important to have the coil designed to handle the joules but at 12v 100a thats 1,200 joules, but 220v 100a is 22,000 joules, skys the limit that wire can handle 11,000v, its gotta be the coil giving the 5-10% efficiencies that ppl are getting, and every coil layer needs to be wound in 1direction i.e from left to right. No right to left layers.
I have collected some large nails to cut a lot of projectiles for this coil gun, and design a automatic feeding system to turn it into a machine gun. i also want to increase the voltage from 12 v to some thing higher.
feed the IR sensor output to the lm358 op amp then feed it to bc547 in common collector configuration with a pull down resistor of 330 ohms then u r good to go to the gate of the mosfet..
i dont have a schematic, u can learn how to build it if u learn about opamps and transistors and figure it out yourself, but it takes a long time to learn..
