"Plainsong" is amazing. Once I was listening to this song in the middle of nowhere, on a very cloudy, windy day, mid Winter. The emotions it delivered to me were indescribable and powerful and I was almost crying, shaking and profoundly moved. If there is a Holy Trinity it must be the first three songs from "Disintegration". "Faith" is very very very underrated.
Plainsong is in the ending credits of an amazing German movie called Toni Erdmann. It was a very nice surprise since I love both the song and the film.
@@bassrocks4419 I so agree. Love the Cure of course but also love this greatly underrated band Kings X. You know their Out of a Silent Planet album and song was inspired by C.S. Lewis's vintage science fiction novel of the same name. Check it out, it's really good.
bloodflowers has always made me think they are the songs discarded by wild mood swing but revisited in a darker version .. I don't know why but it has always made me think this thing .. many guitar riffs present in bloodflowers sometimes robert already he did them during the swings tour .. it's just my opinion .
there cure really is one of those bands where no matter what mood you re in, they have a track for it. from the deepest darkest depression, feeling lost or having lost, to being madly in love, happy and at the top of your game, they are there. The cure could soundtrack my entire life and they have most of it.
I’m not ashamed to say “Mint Car” is one of my favourite Cure songs; It may not be complex, or groundbreaking. But, it quite possibly makes me happier than any other song I’ve ever heard. Fantastic riff and gleeful lyrics. I just love it! I agree with Smith and genuinely think it’s a better song than Friday I’m in love. Or, at least I prefer it. Loved the vid, by the way!
Yeah I agree I think it’s a really good song. I understand how it’s not everybody’s favorite but I definitely enjoy it, and I’d say it’s 100% my fav from wild mood swings.
When I was in college in 1987, I always put on "Kiss Me" to fall asleep to & my roommate said "If I'm not asleep by that Egyptian tune, I'm NEVER falling asleep" lol
My ranking of albums by The Cure… 1. Disintegration (1989) 2. Pornography (1982) 3. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me…(1987) 4. Faith (1981) 5. Seventeen Seconds (1980) 6. Head On The Door (1985) 7. Japanese Whispers (1983) 8. Wish (1992) 9. The Top (1984) 10. Three Imaginary Boys/ Boys Don’t Cry (1979) 11. Wild Mood Swings (1996) 12. The Cure (2004) 13. 4:13 Dream (2008) 14. Bloodflowers (2000)
that’s so hilarious because bloodflowers is the best album ever. it literally saved me from slot of things. but i live all their other stuff of course but this one is literally amazing. i feel robert smith is misunderstood. and bloodflowers was very underrated and never sang in concerts.
This was a terrific list! Although my order would be different, I love the analysis you put into each album. I can tell how much you enjoy their music. Great job!
Wild Mood Swings has always been one of my favorites, it's definitely a top three Cure album for me even today. Want, Jupiter Crash and Mint Car are three of their very best songs.
I love WMS too! But I can't get into 17 Seconds. I always imagine other people say they like it so much, to try and prove their fan credentials, but apart from 'A forest', I can't define any other tune on it. WMS keeps me guessing and takes the listener through a real journey of sounds.
@@IfUfindthisURlost fair enough. I really love Play for Today, M and In Your House as individual tracks well. The eerie atmosphere of the album overall is what I love. IMO it needs to be played start to finish for the whole atmospheric effect.
@@tigb1524 Thank you for the reply. I agree with the album being an overall atmosphere, (verses defining melodies). I'll give it a re-listen and focus on the tracks you mention.
I love The Top and think it should be much higher on the list. Birdmad Girl is one of the best Cure songs. To me, The Top is like God says to Robert Smith, "OK, Robert. You've been a big music fan your whole life, you've been exposed to the best music, and you're an established rock singer-songwriter. Now, what do you REALLY want to do?" And The Top is Robert's answer.
It’s a good album, with some good ideas - I just feel those ideas are better executed on other albums. It was a step in the right direction when the band were trying to find the sound between pop and post punk which I feel they achieved on the three albums that followed it.
@@samuelwills4637 Fair enough. It's always been one of my favourites. I think it shows a little more of Robert's psychedelic side that gets overlooked by the emphasis on the "Goth" moniker.
Honestly I think the album suffers from the production. I remember one magazine review said it sounds like Robert was just burnt out during the mixing and needed an extra pair of ears in the studio. It’s just kinda tinny and “off” somehow but the songs are great. Shake Dog Shake was a set opener for the longest time and you still can’t mess with The Caterpiller
ok good this got some love, i was in the same boat. this album is weird and unique and fun and poppy. I know he was making this around the time he was with the Banshees and taking lots of acid so that explains alot. Its like The Glove.
I grew up with The Cure, been a fan since 1985 and my order is completely different: 1. The Head On The Door 2. Pornography 3. Seventeen Seconds 4. Faith 5. Disintegration 6. The Top 7. Bloodflowers 8. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me 9 . Wish 10. Three Imaginary Boys / Boys Don't Cry 11. Japanese Whispers 12. Wild Mood Swings 13. The Cure 14. 4:13 Dream I also need to mention that I really have a dislike for some of their most popular songs like Friday I'm In Love, Love Cats or Lullaby... I prefer their dark and brooding stuff and songs like The Last Day of Summer, Disintegration, A Strange Day, Want, Just One Kiss or Faith are what makes me happy as a fan.
My list: 1 - Disintegration 2 - Pornography 3 - Bloodflowers 4 - The Head On The Door 5 - Wish 6 - Seventeen Seconds 7 - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me 8 - Faith 9 - The Cure 10 - Three Imaginary Boys 11 - Wild Mood Swings 12 - The Top 13 - 4:13 Dream
1: Disintegration 2: Faith 3: Seventeen Seconds 4: Pornography 5: Three Imaginary Boys 6: Wish 7: The Head On The Door 8: Japanese Whispers 9: Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me 10: The Top 11: Bloodflowers 12: 4:13 Dream 13: The Cure 14: Wild Mood Swings
My list, it's gonna be different that most fans think: 14. 4:13 13. The Cure 12. Wild Mood Swings 11. Kiss Me 10. Bloodflowers 9. Head On the Door 8. Japanese Whispers 7. The Top 6. Three Imaginary Boys 5. Wish 4. Disintegration 3. Pornography 2. Faith 1. Seventeen Seconds
Amazing countdown, I totally agree with you, and it’s probably one of the best Cure videos I’ve had encountered, but perhaps I would have put Pornography above The Head On The Door, both amazing albums, but Pornography has just that unique vibe that I love that you can’t fund it in any other Cure album! Also, totally agree with each album descriptions, although I haven’t fully listened to those post-Disnitegration albums yet. Superb video, thank you, Samuel!
Pretty glad to see Subway Song get a special mention during Three Imaginary Boys. It's always stood out quite a lot to me. I'm not even halfway through their albums and I always overlook Japanese Whispers for some reason but having The Lovecats on it alone and it's less than a half hour long so there's no reason not to listen to it.
1 Three Imaginary Boys 2 Disintegration 3 Faith 4 Wish 5 Kiss Me 6 The Top 7 Seventeen Seconds 8 Pornography 9 Wild Mood Swings 10 Japanese Whispers 11 Bloodflowers 12 The Cure 13 4:13 Dream
I started listening to the Cure when Kiss Me x3 and Disintegration were new albums. Both are masterpieces. Head on the Door and Staring at the Sea, the first compilation, were also popular at the time. I often gravitated toward the original "Goth Trilogy" (17 Seconds, Faith, Pornography) and found them all fascinating. Everything the Cure did well in their early years they made great on several of their later records.
17 Seconds and Faith are my Favourite Cure albums, very closely followed by Pornography. This for me is the best period of The Cure, Disintegration and Wish are the best from the later period, with WIsh being the last truly great Cure, let's hope their new one is a return to form.
100% agreed. I was 15 when Disintegration came out and for a number of years I tought it was their masterpiece... but 30+ years on... for me their best albums are the ones I keep coming back to - - more than the others - that haven't really aged... that are timeless... and that for me is Seventeen Seconds and Faith. Half of Wish is great - and the b-sides are better than some of the album tracks. Friday I'm in Love is like a nursery rhyme crossed with a toothpaste commercial... and of all their post Wish output - there are probably just enough truly great songs to fit on one album. 1 Seventeen Seconds 2 Faith 3 Head on the Door 4 Disintegration 5 Pornography 6 KMx3 7 The Top 8 Japanese Whispers 9 Boys Don't Cry / TIB 10 Wish 11 Bloodflowers 12 WMS 13 The Cure 14 4:13 Dream
I enjoyed this. Your choices were spot on. What you had to say about Disintegration was Wonderful. The part about, Everyone should listen to this Album. Nice collection of Vinyl BTW...I had a Disintegration Promo Cassette, unopened, in my Glovebox for YEARS! It got buried somehow and when I found it I was so Excited! I used to work in Record Store in Seattle during the late 80s, early 90s. Sad Day when they phased out the Vinyl. I digress. Great Cure Album Count Down.
I've been a fan of The Cure since hearing Love Song, Just Like Heaven and Lullaby on the radio growing up. I heard Disintegration when I was about 16 and thought it was pretty amazing, but then didn't really get into The Cure until some edgy friends introduced me to all of the back catalogue as I was going through some rough emotional shit in my late teens. I went to their Wish tour concert in 1992 and saw how incredible they are live, and have been to every concert of theirs near me since. I mostly agree with your listing and comments and can honestly say my top three are: 1. Disintegration, 2. Pornography and a tie between 3. Faith and 17 Seconds. My favourite tracks are A Forest, Fascination Street, A Strange Day and All Cats are Grey. Simon's bass is sublime, Robert's guitar is unmistakeably recognisable and his lyricism is beautiful and poetic. An iconic band that my kids know - I am glad to say they have grown up listening to The Cure and I hope they love them as much as I do.
i love robert smiths style also when it’s a live audience the band literally is so in sync and just you can feel the passion with their songs and they appreciate all of them in their different ways. the cure is literally the best band ever
Rating their albums can be quite vacillating. I grew up watching mtv in the middle of the night and remember seeing The Cure on there and liking their music and style. Then around 1988 is when i really got into them and once Disintegration came out I constantly agreed with Stan in South Park, that it was the greatest album ever! But… there was a time in high school where Pornography was the best album. Summer of 1992 Kiss me was my favorite. On the other hand, when Wish came out, i was torn. I heard High on college radio and loved it, then when the album came out i picked it up the day it was released and listened to it over and over to a point i disected it so much that I lost interest in. But now I’m back to appreciating it…. A specific mood, place, time, company, and even a sense of nostalgia can keep the list of favorite Cure songs/albums constantly evolving.
4:13 is massively underrated in my opinion. I didn't like it much when it came out and forgot about it. Gave it another try during lockdown and after a few listens it clicked. It's a real slow burner, songs like Switch and It's Over are immense, typical Robert rants. I saw an interview somewhere where Robert said The Hungry Ghost is one of his favourite songs he's written. Then he said that people don't really appreciate it because it's not culturally relevant, unlike A Forest. When he said that, it changed my whole mindset towards the album and I just listen to the songs for their own sake now. The Cure don't hold the same place in music as they did 25 - 30 years ago but they are still a sincere band with their own vision and way of doing things. I'd put that album in my top 5 Cure albums
Totally true, their most underrated album in my opinion, it contains my favorite The Cure song : The Real Snow White and it has so much energy, really love it
@@jinxwadhill7260 oh mannnnn I agree with this album being underrated, and it's definitely grown on me and shown more of its excellence with each listen... but I'm sorry, that song is bottom 10 Cure songs for me! so funny how taste can differ so much. what else do you like about it? maybe I'm missing out, and need a new perspective...
@@whitneyschuster2439 I just love the melody of the chorus, and the overall ambiance of it, but you know, my opinions about The Cure's songs and albums are kinda weird for most people since Disintegration is my least favorite album from them and I also don't really like Faith much
Thank you, really! You did a great job in summarizing The Cure's musical history in a few minutes. For me, who grew up completely taken over by this mood, rhytm and lyrics, it is just too much stuff to express in words so shortly. There was always two distinct musical flows to The Cure: their natural heavy, bitter self mocking way to compose and perform and the more comercial guided thing required by a big contract. The Cure is everything you said and more. Ocassionally I take my time to rediscover The Cure and it is always great.
I do personally enjoy their self titled record, but Wish definitely is their last great record. People love Bloodflowers though, you can see in the comment section! Bloodflowers is too hit and miss with the tracklist though for me to ever call it great.
@@samuelwills4637 agreed. I just think their whole style changed after Wish. They lost their edge and versatility. MOst material since then has been a dirge of guitars with less variety and colour than previous work. Thanks for the video anyway!
@@MrMurph73 Wow! Thank you, that's the commentary I was looking for! You perfectly resume my thoughts but with better words. It's exactly that. After Wish, they lost good part of their whimsical lightness, their experimental craziness, the exoticness and diversity of their music flavors.... I don't hate it but it sounds more like a cringy noisy mash-up. So I have to admit that I almost completely stopped listening to them. But if they ever release a new album, I hope it's going to be full of wacky freshiness! 😜
Thank you. I know many of the Cures’ most famous songs. I am a 47 year old man in the UK. I love indie music. This has absolutely inspired me to listen to a number of these albums properly. Excellent 👍🏻 a big thumbs up
All cats are grey !!! That was a very excellent review....I'm very old school with this band....I agree with your first choice as it's an absolute classic album....2nd favourite is Faith....
Amazing video, and weirdly, the ranking is almost identical to how I would rank the Cure albums, except I would switch wild mood swings and bloodflowers around
Was curious where “The Head on the Door” was gonna land. Picked the album up 3 months ago and it quickly became one of my favorite albums. “Disintegration” of course is my personal Best Album Ever, but it’s been a blast picking up a new Cure record every couple of months and absorbing each one with my undivided attention! 😎. Great List!
Gotta love The Cure. I always end up going to songs like Other Voices, At Night, Charlotte Sometimes, Same Deep Water as you, Disintegration and A Hundred Years on occasion.
You forgot perhaps their best album: Join the Dots (the B Sides), so many gems ;-) Oh and "Mixed Up", excellent album of remixes. Their lives are great too. Joke aside, interesting to see your list. Wish is a masterpiece. Bloodflowers felt like a goodbye. I never got into the latest 2, and can't even remember any songs. Kiss Me is perfect, but most albums from Faith onwards work cohesively: each song brings something. Wild Mood Swings was weird: Jupiter Crash is excellent, Want just fell flat when the beat entered (I saw them live on that tour...). And Bloodflowers felt like they sobered up, were not trying to be, but were themselves (unlike Wild Mood Swings). I seem to remember David Allen producing most albums, before they changed their sound - and started sounding confused to my ears. Thanks for this video, I enjoyed it.
Great video. Very well thought out list. Can't argue with your reasoning. However here's my personal list: 1. Disintegration 2. Pornography 3. Head On The Door 4. Faith 5. Kiss Me 6. Three Imaginary Boys 7. The Top 8. Seventeen Seconds 9. Wish 10. Japanese Whispers These top ten albums I can listen to from start to finish and enjoy every song. After Wish it's a very different story. Each album has one or two songs that I like but that's it. So I'd rather shout out some of the great songs from those more recent albums than rank them. "Want"(as good as anything they ever did) "Lost" and "Labyrinth" (both could easily fit on Kiss Me) Underneath The Stars (just classic Cure)
nopes! 1. Bloodflowers (how the fuck don't you like Watching Me Fall) 2. Japanese Whispers 3. Disintegration 4. Wish 5. Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me. 6.Pornography 7.Seventeen Seconds 8. Faith 9. The Head On The Door 10. 4:13 11. The Cure 12. Wild mood swings 13. The Top 14. Three Imaginary Boys
Lots of people love Bloodflowers, even since this video I probably listen it to it more than the self titled and 4:13 Dream cause there are song good songs - the opening track, Last Day of Summer, a couple others, but still I think it’s flawed. Watching Me Fall is 11 minutes and to me it doesn’t justify that length, melody and lyrics feel uninspired, Smith’s wailing can be grating on that track. But that’s just my opinion, it ain’t wrong or right :)
I really enjoyed the list! I agree with most of the ranking ! Keep up the great work ! The only album that I would have put higher on my list is Bloodflowers! I would love to see your list for all the live compilation and best of albums, such as Mixed Up, etc. My cure favorite track of all time is « Plainsong »!
A good video and a very good explanation of all the Cure records. The dark trinity albums (17 Seconds, Faith, & Pornography) and the ‘Boris’ period albums( HOTD, KMKMKM, Disintegration, Wish) are my personal favorites. That being said, I am a fan of the Cure’s entire catalog but I just like certain albums a little more than others.
One of my favorite songs by The Cure and of all time has to be Doing The Unstuck off of Wish. I can't quite describe why but it just is; I don't even have a specific memory attached to it. I first saw it was a fun song to drive fast to but the more I listened to it the more I began to enjoy and appreciated it. There's something serene but faced paced, soft but rough, and just overall a beautiful track. I feel as if I'm being taken away from the hardships of this life and being transported to another world. There's an overarching feeling of escape and bliss (probably because of Robert's frequent drug use and the line "Let's get happy"). Every instrument and layer feels perfect to me. It just brings me so much joy.
My ranking from bottom to top (as of today): The Cure Bloodflowers (somehow can’t love it) 4:13 Dream (surprisingly catchy fare) Wild Mood Swings Wish (tho it has some of my favorites) Japanese Whispers Three Imaginary Boys Seventeen Seconds Kiss Me x3 Faith Pornography The Top (so odd, I love it) Head on The Door Disintegration
_Wish_ is my mother's favorite Cure album, and after picking it up at a thrift store and listening to it, I can definitely see why. The whole disc is a roller coaster of emotions, sending you to blissful highs (High, Doing The Unstuck, Friday I'm In Love) before plummeting you to deep, dark lows (Trust, Open, A Letter To Elise). My personal favorite is still _Disintegration_ for its darker, more gothic tone, but _Wish_ comes a very close second.
@@seanp8220My mother's favorite is Lovesong. It reminds her of a long lost love who introduced her to this band in the first place. Lots of fond memories!
Do you listen to Siouxsie and the Banshees? Would love to hear your take on their worst to best. Funnily enough, when I bought a used CD copy of Siouxsie and the Banshees - The Scream, it came with a copy of The Cure's Disintegration inside the case (alongside the actual album I bought haha). The Cure is awesome, and Robert Smith even played in the Banshees a few times. Great video and agree with all your picks!

Wild mood swings has really good b sides,"a pink dream" for example or "it used to be me"or "ocean".If they would replace some of the the songs of the album,it could be my favourite cure album ,along with bloodflowers and Wish. But everyone to their own !
@@robinchatterjee4353 If i remember right,Robert said the same thing about the b sides long time ago,and that he wanted to give some band members the chance to put co written songs on the album. That would explain the outcome.
Wow, nice to see "the head on the door" and "Kiss me" getting some love ! I felt like the only one actually enjoying them. I discovered the band with an old cassette of "Japanese whispers" bought in a discount shop because I liked the art, still love it for its uniqueness.
What is crazy is that two of the best alternative albums of all time are considered to be Disintegration and The Stone Roses and both of them came out ON THE SAME DAY.
i'm glad you spoke fairly highly of the self-titled despite having it relatively low though i might be a little biased since that was the newest record when I got into them, I rank it very highly in their discog (talking top 5 sometimes top 3) and the bonus tracks/b-sides are so good as well
wow, I couldn't expect Bloodflowers under recent two albums. I prefer gothic post-punk oriented Cure (80-82) with Disintegration ahead. Good list! Can you do the same thing with Depeche Mode? ;)
I’ve only listened to the first handful of Depeche Mode records, there are so many more artists I need to make a video on before I could even think about getting to them! But, perhaps, one day :)))
I love this line up of albums and the enthusiasm; music making "your soul ascend to heaven" is very evocative imagery. I agree with the number one choice. Used to listen to The Cure a lot whilst driving around Horsham and Crawley in my, at times, misspent and gloomy teenage years, and we just loved the fact that guys were from just down the road.
Glad you enjoyed my video! Growing up near where the band were rocking must’ve added a whole other sense of connectivity I can only imagine! It’s something I feel with bands that are from Melbourne, but The Cure are one of the all time greats!
Samuel, thanks a lot for this video… but i really think that you would but Faith higher if you would listen to it more often. The drowning man, all cats are grey and faith are all in my top 10 cure songs… they give me goosebumps. And espeicially the live version of faith in Orange or on the deluxe album
If I was doing the list today I’d probably put it one one spot higher, depending on how I’m feeling it’s probably better than Wish but in saying that Wish is still such a great album. But all those albums on my list from Boys Don’t Cry onwards I’d listen to more often than Faith. I gave it an 8/10, but The Cure are such a good band even an 8/10 record may be ‘lower’ on my list. Faith is also arguably better than their debut but their debut offers a different type of sound that I love whereas Faith sometimes feels like Seventeen Seconds Part 2 and I’d just rather listen to Seventeen Seconds. So yeah, it’s tough!
@@samuelwills4637 i see mate, it is a matter of taste after all. Thanks a lot for your list tho, I love cure content! I’m going to see them live in amsterdam next year actually!!! Just started listening to the cure, first album I heard was pornography, don't know if I should have started with this album, but it was the thing that I felt like listening to the most. Loved every song in it, and some songs I went crazy about, like "one hundred years", and "cold", which I think are the 2 most depressing/dark tracks, but also my favorites. Loved that album a fuck lot. Definitely excited to listen to more of their stuff

Hey man, just discovered your channel and already I’m hooked. Great to have a down to earth dude reviewing some of my favorite music. Most dudes that review on TH-cam are pretentious and bias, but you’ve scratched me the right way! Keep it up brother!
This was awesome! I’ve been into the cure to some degree for like 15-20 years but have recently gotten super into them and want to hear everything so it was cool to come across this. Not gonna lie I was hoping that one of the more recent albums I’ve heard less of had a surprise entry into the higher rankings for me to check out, but the self titled got a strong review and I’m keen to listen to that one more in depth today
I’m one of the very first “Cure” fans and dressed MOD in school. In my day, you were either “The Cure” or “Depeche Mode”. The Cure was an underground band that only “certain cool people” enjoyed. When I first listened, they weren’t even on KROQ yet. No one knows them better then us. Smith was a great role model of love for his wife, proudly revealing his wedding ring in pics. I was introduced to him when he was just 19. His best is “ the B sides”, but his best songs are “Throw your foot”, “Let’s Go To Bed”, “Close To Me”, and “Lovecats”. Then, they went mainstream. (1986 graduation)
Thanks, I really enjoyed listening to your ranking and your thoughts on each album. It really resonated with me. The main albums I differ with you on are Wild Mood Swings and Bloodflowers. I'd put Wish higher as well. My list is: 1. Disintegration (1989) 2. Wish (1992) 3. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me…(1987) 4. Pornography (1982) 5. Wild Mood Swings (1996) 6. Seventeen Seconds (1980) 7. Head On The Door (1985) 8. Faith (1981) 9. Bloodflowers (2000) 10. The Top (1984) 11. Three Imaginary Boys/ Boys Don’t Cry (1979) 12.The Cure (2004) 13. Japanese Whispers (1983) 14. 4:13 Dream (2008) From what I've heard of the first 4 songs coming out of their new album 'Songs of a Lost World', it could rank quite high on the list, they sound incredible!
1:Disintegration 2:Kiss Me 3:Porno 4:Wish 5: Head on the Door 6: Faith 7: Bloodflowers 8: 17 Seconds 9: The Top 10: Wild Mood Swings 11: 4:13 Dream 12: 3 Imaginary Boys/Boys Don’t Cry 13: The Cure
Wonderful breakdown. Can't argue with Disintegration, it's easily one of the 100 greatest albums of all time. The special thing about the remainder of The Cure's discography is that each album's greatness will be determined by what time of a person's life that they listened to it. For me personally Pornography remains the greatest Cure album because it arrived at a time in my life when I was confused and felt the world was conspiring against me. It spoke to me on a molecular level in sound and aesthetic. It influenced my art, my writing, my photography, my dressing, my language. It was, for all intents and purposes, the most true thing that existed in my life at that moment. It started the foundation of a series of albums that would speak to me on similar levels: Depeche Mode's 'Violator', Nine Inch Nails' 'The Downward Spiral' and Public Enemy's 'Fear of a Black Planet.' I wouldn't have been able to personally access those records if it weren't for Pornography.

there cure really is one of those bands where no matter what mood you re in, they have a track for it. from the deepest darkest depression, feeling lost or having lost, to being madly in love, happy and at the top of your game, they are there. The cure could soundtrack my entire life and they have most of it.
What would be an example of each of those emotions? Like what track corresponds
Agree with all of these placings except for Bloodflowers. I personally really enjoy that album.
I recently became a fan of The cure, my favorite album by them is Pornography, but would rather start really slow by listening to all of them.
Absolutely, take your time! I think it took me 2-3 months to go through it all and have an appreciation for each record respectively
My favorite Cure song is The Kiss. Recently got into the Cure, and I really appreciate the variety of sounds and moods in their discography
The live version from Trilogy is amazing.
I recently got into The Cure as well and this is also my favorite song from them… it’s such a standout track!
yessss def their best song
Same. The Kiss is insane awesome.
Kiss is my fave song. The live version created something (good) in me that never left
Everything from 1981 -1985 for me. Faith is an amazing album.
When I was in college in 1987, I always put on "Kiss Me" to fall asleep to & my roommate said "If I'm not asleep by that Egyptian tune, I'm NEVER falling asleep" lol
Of course, he was referring to "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" no pun intended
"all i want" is definitely the most incredible and underrated Cure song!!
Agreed! No one ever talks about this gem from Kiss Me x 3. That guitar riff is amazing.
One More Time is underrated. It sounds like the precursor to Plainsong.
My ranking of albums by The Cure…
1. Disintegration (1989)
2. Pornography (1982)
3. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me…(1987)
4. Faith (1981)
5. Seventeen Seconds (1980)
6. Head On The Door (1985)
7. Japanese Whispers (1983)
8. Wish (1992)
9. The Top (1984)

11. Wild Mood Swings (1996)
12. The Cure (2004)
13. 4:13 Dream (2008)
14. Bloodflowers (2000)
Great list, fairly comparable to mine!
I definitely agree!
17 Seconds and Faith behind Disintegration. Not sure I can get behind that.
that’s so hilarious because bloodflowers is the best album ever. it literally saved me from slot of things. but i live all their other stuff of course but this one is literally amazing. i feel robert smith is misunderstood. and bloodflowers was very underrated and never sang in concerts.
literally the most beautiful lyrics was from bloodflowers
This was a terrific list! Although my order would be different, I love the analysis you put into each album. I can tell how much you enjoy their music. Great job!
1- Pornography
2- 17 seconds
3- Faith
4- Boys don’t cry
Each time someone talks wonders about Disintegration makes me feel so happy. This album has been the album of my life . Thanks 🙏🏼
Wild Mood Swings has always been one of my favorites, it's definitely a top three Cure album for me even today. Want, Jupiter Crash and Mint Car are three of their very best songs.
That’s what’s great about The Cure, even records that others might consider weaker still have their fans. Jupiter Crash is good, I love Want too.
I always liked 'Strange Attraction' on it.
I grew up with The Cure, been a fan since 1985 and my order is completely different:
1. The Head On The Door
2. Pornography
3. Seventeen Seconds
4. Faith
5. Disintegration
6. The Top

9 . Wish
10. Three Imaginary Boys / Boys Don't Cry
11. Japanese Whispers
12. Wild Mood Swings
13. The Cure
14. 4:13 Dream
I also need to mention that I really have a dislike for some of their most popular songs like Friday I'm In Love, Love Cats or Lullaby... I prefer their dark and brooding stuff and songs like The Last Day of Summer, Disintegration, A Strange Day, Want, Just One Kiss or Faith are what makes me happy as a fan.
My list:
1 - Disintegration
2 - Pornography
3 - Bloodflowers
4 - The Head On The Door
5 - Wish
6 - Seventeen Seconds
7 - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me

Amazing countdown, I totally agree with you, and it’s probably one of the best Cure videos I’ve had encountered, but perhaps I would have put Pornography above The Head On The Door, both amazing albums, but Pornography has just that unique vibe that I love that you can’t fund it in any other Cure album! Also, totally agree with each album descriptions, although I haven’t fully listened to those post-Disnitegration albums yet.
Superb video, thank you, Samuel!
Glad you enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this vide as I'm beginning to explore The Cure
Thanks for watching!
Great video bro! subbed
Sam Rees thanks man!
17 Seconds and Faith are my Favourite Cure albums, very closely followed by Pornography.
This for me is the best period of The Cure, Disintegration and Wish are the best from the later period, with WIsh being the last truly great Cure, let's hope their new one is a return to form.
I agree
100% agreed. I was 15 when Disintegration came out and for a number of years I tought it was their masterpiece... but 30+ years on... for me their best albums are the ones I keep coming back to - - more than the others - that haven't really aged... that are timeless... and that for me is Seventeen Seconds and Faith. Half of Wish is great - and the b-sides are better than some of the album tracks. Friday I'm in Love is like a nursery rhyme crossed with a toothpaste commercial... and of all their post Wish output - there are probably just enough truly great songs to fit on one album.
1 Seventeen Seconds
2 Faith
3 Head on the Door
4 Disintegration
5 Pornography
6 KMx3
7 The Top
8 Japanese Whispers
9 Boys Don't Cry / TIB
10 Wish

12 WMS
13 The Cure
14 4:13 Dream
So much content and my favourites change regularly. Just blessed to have my life long favourite band still playing live & producing music
Oh and worst song? “The empty world” from The Top!
Thank you so much!
"it's 2020 and we're supposed to be getting a new cure album soon" ah yes 🙃
Still waiting… 🥲
Perfect Boy is one of their best songs I think.
Totally true, their most underrated album in my opinion, it contains my favorite The Cure song : The Real Snow White and it has so much energy, really love it
I have immense love for 4:13 Dream
Using my favourite Cure song as the background during your intro earns you an automatic thumbs up.
This confirms, as I always felt, that The Cure stopped being brilliant after 1994. Wish was the last great album.
@@cameleonfleuri you articulate it extremely well yourself! I'm just gld they recorded so much great material we can still enjoy :)
@@MrMurph73 Oh, thank you! ☺
Great video, keep up the good work!
Thankyou!
Nice summation. Love your enthusiasm for Disintegration, probably the most influential album of my life.
Thank you. I know many of the Cures’ most famous songs. I am a 47 year old man in the UK.
I love indie music.
This has absolutely inspired me to listen to a number of these albums properly.
Excellent 👍🏻 a big thumbs up
Cheers!
1 Faith
2 Pornography
3 Disintegration
4 Seventeen seconds
5 The head on the door.
Excellent review. Love The Cure!
Thankyou! Glad you enjoyed it
Was curious where “The Head on the Door” was gonna land. Picked the album up 3 months ago and it quickly became one of my favorite albums. “Disintegration” of course is my personal Best Album Ever, but it’s been a blast picking up a new Cure record every couple of months and absorbing each one with my undivided attention! 😎. Great List!
I think "The Head on the Door" may be my favourite Cure album.
Can't fade your top 5. They're my top 5, too.
Great vid . Yes looking forward to the new one. Dream Lands
Gotta love The Cure. I always end up going to songs like Other Voices, At Night, Charlotte Sometimes, Same Deep Water as you, Disintegration and A Hundred Years on occasion.
Im doing my 2nd playthough with them on wish now
Thank you! Great video! I really like the way you include the visual of the vinyl. Your descriptions of the albums are spot on!
Thanks for saying all the things I feel! We’ll done Sam!
However here's my personal list:
1. Disintegration
2. Pornography
3. Head On The Door
4. Faith
5. Kiss Me
6. Three Imaginary Boys
7. The Top
8. Seventeen Seconds
9. Wish
10. Japanese Whispers
These top ten albums I can listen to from start to finish and enjoy every song. After Wish it's a very different story. Each album has one or two songs that I like but that's it. So I'd rather shout out some of the great songs from those more recent albums than rank them.
"Want"(as good as anything they ever did)
"Lost" and "Labyrinth" (both could easily fit on Kiss Me)
Underneath The Stars (just classic Cure)
Disintegration was the best way to say goodbye to the 80s, the best decade for music. There isnt a single bad song on Disintegration.
Coward.
Standing on a beach. Colaberate.
Faith is great..
Don't want to admit it but disintegration was the coupe' de' gra'... We all know it by heart....
nopes!
My ranking from bottom to top (as of today):
The Cure
Bloodflowers (somehow can’t love it)
4:13 Dream (surprisingly catchy fare)
Wild Mood Swings
Wish (tho it has some of my favorites)
Japanese Whispers
Three Imaginary Boys
Seventeen Seconds
Kiss Me x3
Faith
Pornography
The Top (so odd, I love it)
Head on The Door
Disintegration
_Wish_ is my mother's favorite Cure album, and after picking it up at a thrift store and listening to it, I can definitely see why. The whole disc is a roller coaster of emotions, sending you to blissful highs (High, Doing The Unstuck, Friday I'm In Love) before plummeting you to deep, dark lows (Trust, Open, A Letter To Elise). My personal favorite is still _Disintegration_ for its darker, more gothic tone, but _Wish_ comes a very close second.
my mums fav cure songs are prob a letter to elise and High
@@seanp8220My mother's favorite is Lovesong. It reminds her of a long lost love who introduced her to this band in the first place. Lots of fond memories!
I think Simon Gallup counts as a long time member, he's only been in the band for 40 years, lol
Yep I believe he joined after Three Imaginary Boys, but he did have brief hiatus between ‘82-‘84
True, but at the Rock ‘n’ Roll HOF induction, Robert mentioned him last - and as the guy who had been with him the whole journey. So there’s that…
our ranking is quite identical !

Wow, nice to see "the head on the door" and "Kiss me" getting some love ! I felt like the only one actually enjoying them.
I discovered the band with an old cassette of "Japanese whispers" bought in a discount shop because I liked the art, still love it for its uniqueness.
"The Head on the Door" is superb.
What is crazy is that two of the best alternative albums of all time are considered to be Disintegration and The Stone Roses and both of them came out ON THE SAME DAY.
This video deserves a solid 10! Wow! You are a very talented music youtuber. 10!
Thankyou!
I've met people who hate The Smiths, Joy Division , Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins even The Beatles. I'm yet to meet anyone who hates The Cure.
I usually listen to disintegration when it's raining.
"Disintegration" is a masterpiece
Amazing video dude! Comparing close to me to ice cream really resonated with me. Subbed 👌
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video, I'll hopefully make more like this one in the future!
So good thanks for the video :) (Seventeen Seconds...) :)
i'm glad you spoke fairly highly of the self-titled despite having it relatively low
though i might be a little biased since that was the newest record when I got into them, I rank it very highly in their discog (talking top 5 sometimes top 3) and the bonus tracks/b-sides are so good as well
wow, I couldn't expect Bloodflowers under recent two albums.
But, perhaps, one day :)))
almost totally agree with you except for wild mood swings, I really love it!
Great list, really enjoyed it. “Disintegration” is our favoriteCure album, highly recommend the UK pressing.🎧

Oh yes! The unsettling vibe of 100 years is excellent! Pornography is great for when I'm feeling nihilistic.
@@tigb1524 yes it is. Second best Cure album in my opinion, after Disintegration.
I love the video, it's such a satisfaction to see other fans sharing their personal tastes and observations. Your passion and knowledge made me want to listen to all of these albums again, just to check if i agree with your choices. Big love from Poland, i'm waiting for more videos!!!!
Thankyou!!!
what I think ,,watching me fall´´ is one of there best songs
Hey man, just discovered your channel and already I’m hooked. Great to have a down to earth dude reviewing some of my favorite music. Most dudes that review on TH-cam are pretentious and bias, but you’ve scratched me the right way! Keep it up brother!
Thanks mate I really appreciate it! Hope to get back into making videos again soon
My list is:
1. Disintegration (1989)
2. Wish (1992)
3. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me…(1987)
4. Pornography (1982)
5. Wild Mood Swings (1996)
6. Seventeen Seconds (1980)
7. Head On The Door (1985)
8. Faith (1981)
9. Bloodflowers (2000)
10. The Top (1984)
11. Three Imaginary Boys/ Boys Don’t Cry (1979)
12.The Cure (2004)
13. Japanese Whispers (1983)
14. 4:13 Dream (2008)
From what I've heard of the first 4 songs coming out of their new album 'Songs of a Lost World', it could rank quite high on the list, they sound incredible!
Totally agree with your list. Nice.
1:Disintegration
2:Kiss Me
3:Porno
4:Wish
5: Head on the Door
6: Faith
7: Bloodflowers
8: 17 Seconds
9: The Top
10: Wild Mood Swings
11: 4:13 Dream
12: 3 Imaginary Boys/Boys Don’t Cry
13: The Cure
Love matching this.. ❤ Cure is my all time favorite band. Love the Cure
I have watched this video maybe a 100 times🎉😆 love it so.. and love the Cure so so so❤
Wonderful breakdown.

Thanks for making this video! Loved hearing your thoughts on each album. I think my list would almost be the same except I might put Wish at number 2. Nothing could ever top Disintegration though.. what a magic album
For me 4.13 dream is one of their best, I listened to it constantly when it came out and still like it now, same with The Cure both good albums.
