DAVID LYNCH: Worst to Best (Spoiler Free)
มุมมอง 13K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi everyone! Here's my take on all ten of David Lynch's feature films from worst to best. David Lynch is one of the greatest directors of our time, his unique style has led to the creation of 'Lynchian' filmmaking. This video should help act as a beginners guide to Lynch, hopefully you can walk away from this with a recommendation or two. I hope you enjoy! IMDb: www.imdb.com/user/ur59794734/ So...
After listening to all their albums I think wild mood swings is easily their best work
@@carpet5346 absolutely fair, I actually love to see that this is the case for you. For me, that album just doesn’t hit me like all their others - but at the end of the day, The Cure is undeniably a great band with something for everyone :)
Heartbroken that David Lynch, my favourite film director of all time has passed away. I made this video quite a few years ago, and while my opinions on his films have definitely changed (that being I honestly like all of them even more now), my passion for Lynch’s cinema has only grown. If you’re watching this video, I hope that it inspires you to delve into his works. All of his films have so much creativity and something to offer everyone. R.I.P David Lynch 1946 - 2025.
Devastated by the news today. I remember I watched this video right before I started to dive into his work. Going through them all truly had a profound impact on me. RIP to one of cinemas greatest contributors
As one who began listening to them on the release of their third album 'Faith' , bought Seventeen seconds in a heartbeat and then spent a good deal of my formative years immersed in their next album, I may have a slightly different viewpoint, as I personally thought what most deem as their best, 'Disintegration' as a tepid attempt at trying to recreate what I deem as their honest best, both in integrity and artistic expression, 'P0rn0gr@phy'. And while these three albums I still consider the best of their career, for some reason I spend more time listening to the almost-lost-in-time, 'The Top' and 'The Walk AKA Japanese whispers original EP' which include La Ment, The Upstairs room and The Dream, three of their finest songs ever. (If you include the extended original of Just One Kiss off the back of Lets go to bed, you have a perfect cure era. ) I feel once they 'hit the Top' and pushed out Head on the door, they had lost something, but gained something as well. What they gained would make them a lot of money as the albums were great and I love most of them. They all have their place and to rank them is difficult as their value is either temporal, or perhaps seasonal. But I do love Head on the Door for the way it moves me at night, Kiss Me for its patchwork patterns of songs that keep me interested, Wish for when I need more than hair-of-the Dog to get me through the morning and Wild Mood swings when I want to buck the trend and enjoy good music that most have deemed otherwise. On the flip side, I find Disintegration and Blood flowers lacking authenticity, with the latter stumbling from one song to another seemingly looking for lost appeal, the former wallowing in lost inspiration. Which is why I'd rather listen to 'From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea.' rather than Plain song . 4:13 and The Cure are ok, some tracks, maybe one or three are epic, Underneath the stars for example, but it's more background music for me. I have a deep respect for the cure. I think they started writing their 'Colorful' albums when they knew they couldn't really do the dark ones authentically, not with all this money around them, and I think they kept their integrity in doing fun songs, Love songs and silly songs. It was just when they tried to go back to the Dark side haha, that they failed. It's already there, and it's the best there is.
Excellent vídeo! Cure best Band ever! In my opinion, last good cure álbum was bloodflowers, except songs of a Lost word, of course... 4:13 dream and the cure are the worst...not wild mood swings
Gonna have to do a new one
@@aaronszyszkoofficial4776 maybe
11:58 is this a direct reference to last night's Blood on the Clocktower game?

15. 4:13 Dream 14. Wild Mood Swings 13. The Cure 12. Bloodflowers 11. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me 10. The Head On The Door 9. The Top 8. Japanese Whispers 7. Wish 6. Songs Of A Lost World 5. Three Imaginary Boys 4. Seventeen Seconds 3. Disintegration 2. Pornography 1. Faith
Inland empire #9 ?? 😂
@@martydundee1871 no need for cheeky remarks my friend, if I were to do this video again now 6 years later, Inland Empire would probably be top 3 :)
bloofflower is one of the best
Bloodflowers worse than The Cure?? Are you high? Also, the first track of Wild Mood Swings is better than 4:13 and The Cure together.
@@fastica it’s okay to have different opinions :)
Thats so mean
Bloodflowers worse than 4.13 dream?? Really? Bloodflowers is easily top 5
@@fixxxer3983 thanks for letting me know!
Rating their albums can be quite vacillating. I grew up watching mtv in the middle of the night and remember seeing The Cure on there and liking their music and style. Then around 1988 is when i really got into them and once Disintegration came out I constantly agreed with Stan in South Park, that it was the greatest album ever! But… there was a time in high school where Pornography was the best album. Summer of 1992 Kiss me was my favorite. On the other hand, when Wish came out, i was torn. I heard High on college radio and loved it, then when the album came out i picked it up the day it was released and listened to it over and over to a point i disected it so much that I lost interest in. But now I’m back to appreciating it…. A specific mood, place, time, company, and even a sense of nostalgia can keep the list of favorite Cure songs/albums constantly evolving.
Faith is top 5 for me.
Im doing my 2nd playthough with them on wish now
The top is impressive for the fact that its basically a robert smith solo album, he literally did this album by himself
Doing this now for the new album
one greatest bands i have ever seen. freddy had crowd in hands in 5 seconds. live queen are. brillant
late to party. but i bought the cd box set. i just like it very much. a great concert captured in time. play cd often as bib new order aussie fan. cheers
My ranking: 1 ) Seventeen Seconds; 2) Disintegration; 3 ) Pornography; 4) The Head in the Door
Bloodflowers is like top 7 😭
1. disintigation 2. pornography 3. wish
Pornography is honestly overrated imo. Would replace it's place in the list with Faith.
I love wild mood swings, the cure is so personal, even when ranking
@@irriqui6114 there wouldn’t be any Cure record without its fans, for me, Wild Mood Swings just isn’t as enjoyable as their other albums. Thanks for watching my video
I tend to agree with this list though I would rank BloodFlowers way higher and Kiss Me X3 much lower. Otherwise Seventeen Seconds rules and glad to see it so high and Head on the Door really is such a low key great album. When I first got it I thought it was just average besides how good 'Push' is. I just wanted to drop some fast opinions. This was an enjoyable video.
I mostly agree. Everything after "Wish" (and even some of Wish) is subpar. I bought every album plus 12"'s and picture discs up to Wish. After that I was extremely disappointed in the material with the exception of a track here and there. I have since returned to rediscovering the catalog and really hoping this much awaited next album will make up for all the filler material albums that followed "Wish". Last thing I will add for a long time "Pornography" was my favorite (but in actuality that's really hard to say since there are many faces and phases of The Cure) and my least favorite track (of the music I purchased and listened to) was and still is "Friday I'm In Love" and I still can't stand that song.
bloodflowers is unbelievably great don’t listen to him
Starting with Wild Mood Swings shows me I don't need to watch the rest of this video
@@Veronie what bad taste you have
@@samuelwills4637 people who listen to the cure don't have bad taste, I just knew I wouldn't find value in your list because we value different things in music. It seems my comment has hurt you and for that I apologize
@@Veronie it is in bad taste to leave a comment if you won’t give the video creator the time of day, and if you don’t agree by the end you can always respectfully disagree. All good.
13. The Cure (producer Ross should be drawn and quartered) 12. Bloodflowers (Everything onward is at least good, but probably great) 11. Three Imaginary Boys 10. 4:13 Dream 9. Wild Mood Swings 8. 17 Seconds 7. Kiss Me... 6. The Top (.) Japanese Whispers 5. Pornography 4. Head on the Door 3. Faith 2. Disintegration 1. Wish Thats right. Disintegration is second best.
After watching season 1 & 2 of Twin Peans which was such an incredible experience. Watching Firewalk with Me was such a hugh payoff from almost any movie I’ve ever seen, finally seeing Laura Palmer in person
I saw them here in new zealand on a rainy night in 1980, there were about 500--600 drunken students. That was the seventeen seconds tour.
For me 4.13 dream is one of their best, I listened to it constantly when it came out and still like it now, same with The Cure both good albums.
I think Wish has grown over time with me to be better and better
the song bloodflowers is so good its probably in my top 5 list of my favourite the cure songs. also watching me fall is pretty good imo.
Disintegration... that's all I have to say.
I've only got into them recently, but I prefer their first 4 records plus Disintegration. fave tracks off the top - Secrets, A Forest, All Cats are Grey, Lullaby, Prayers for Rain
1 Disintegration 2 Pornography 3 Wish . The Dark Trilogy
Robert said in interview that the reason wild mood swings is disjointed because he didn't write it all at the same time
What no mixed up? No one originally listening in the 80s and 90s would’ve left that off.
1 Faith 2 Pornography 3 Disintegration 4 Seventeen seconds 5 The head on the door.
I saw Fire Walk With Me in the theater BEFORE seeing the show back in the day. It's one of my all time favorite films. You don't need to see the show to experience FWWM, it only adds to the surreal and the horror. Masterpiece and people didn't get it at the time. The Return is 100% artistic perfection also.
Love the King Gizzard bits lol
I don’t trust anyone who has inland empire in their top 5 lynch films. I don’t hate it but it’s a fu to his other films to rank it higher
When I made this video I had it towards the bottom of my list, but I’ve watched it a number of times since and it’s grown on me a lot. At the end of the day, the list is always arbitrary, I enjoy all of Lynch’s films :)
Did I hear king gizzard transition music
Big yes
Pretty good list. I’d say I’d have a pretty similar ranking maybe with faith a little higher and pgraphy switched with kiss me? But then I can’t decide because kiss me should be 3
Tried to listen without watching. All you say is " this album" or ,"it's". Say the name of each album more than once! Frustrating and finished. "This album." Stop it!
Buddy, to remember the name of an album, or looking at the chapter marks isn’t that hard. Be better
Love matching this.. ❤ Cure is my all time favorite band. Love the Cure
I have watched this video maybe a 100 times🎉😆 love it so.. and love the Cure so so so❤
I lost interest when Bloodflowers was at position 13!! 😂. are you serious.. watching me fall is a great song.. What planet you on!!
I think the point of watching a worst to best video is to take interest in the opinions of the content creator, not just to validate your own opinion buddy
great list, wrong about bloodflowers tho
Bloodflowers has definitely grown on me since making this video, but I’d still likely have it towards the lower end of the list, I still think everything from Three Imaginary Boys to Wish is stronger 🤷♂️
