Brembo brakes made for Mercedes. Just changed out rotors and pads yesterday on the same vehicle (C230 sport kompressor). While cleaning the caliber, noticed the Brembo logo on the back in the upper side. I just used OEM pads and rotors from MB. Good video.

at 5:10, you meant hammering the rotor. great selection of brake pads, AKEBONO! very little to none brake dust and noise yet big stopping power compared to factory ones!

Hi there, a long time since anyone commented but I thought I'd give it a go.
Good video, a lot of background noise louder than your commentary & I would like to add some information you might find useful?
Do not use Copper or any other metal based ‘anti-seize’ compounds on the edges (sides) of the brake pads - this will actually cause problems later when the pads start sticking in place.
Anti-seize compounds are NOT lubricants. They are for assembly use (i.e. Nuts & bolts/fasteners) so they can more easily be undone again when required. The metal based compounds will actually promote corrosion (due to electrolytic action) and will eventually form a sticky paste that will harden & stop the pads moving. Hence scored & worn disks.
It is OK on the pad rears/piston as it helps reduce brake squeal, however, Most pads now have an anti squeal 'shim' stuck to the back of them to do this instead but you can still 'butter' them if you want.
I would recommend trying a ceramic (non-metal) based grease to lubricate the edges of the pads & Caliper runners. That should help keep your brakes in good working order. You can get them off Amazon/ebay/Halfords etc.

Nice job, Anthony. I've never seen a Mercedes done before. Looks solid. Of course what stands out is the difference with most other brake systems. Do you lubricate the sliders? What with? I notice that you use nickel antiseize rather than 'brake quiet'. Is that your shop preference or is it specific for Mercedes? Do you need to put antiseize on the caliper alignment screw? Sometimes that can be hard to get off, and it seems redundant....

Awesome Guys! I allready cleared my Maintenace B message from 1 1/2 years of being there and great tips on replacing my front breaks since I have a Brake Wear message as well. Any tips on getting the cam sensor to stop coming up. It only does it after ~4,500 miles with out an oil change and will clear itself for a bit, but then come back. It will only stay away when the oil is changed.

First I would like to thank you guys for this video. I do however have a question or possibly two questions one which I could probably find on a forum. First question why are the slotted holes facing One Direction on the right side and facing the opposite on the left? Also I’ve had my brakes on for a while and never had any issues but now it feels like my brake rotors are either warped or the ABS is stuttering. I have new tires in the front. The wheel doesn’t shake it just feels like the brakes are stuttering. Any suggestions to that? My car is as well a 2007 C230. Thanks Aaron

Or just buy from the Mercedes dealer them selves?

Hmmm, so the 135ftlb torque is clearly too high for the two 18mm caliper bolts, with loctite blue (or my torque wrench is stuffed), read around and many agree that dropping torque settings with loctite by around 20% is a good move given that it's more of a lubricant. I successfully stretched one bolt and broke another following this advice. Looking through the SLK forums I found a more reasonable number of 115NM or 85 ftlb. The ouch problem is that those PINS have a sharp edge ok if you bend one of them with that hammer and punch you just cost yourself a good $80 for new pins. Also when installing those pins a light coat of antisieze on the pins very light will make them slide alot easier.

Does anybody know if a 2005 Mercedes c230 has rear brake sensors? I see none, the old nor the new brake pads for the rear have holes or a slot to where a sensor may plug in...nor do I see any plug on the assembly for a sensor...The front DO have holes in the pads for the sensor and a sensor came with it. Nothing came with the rear brake pads. I am stumped. I'm replacing rotors as well, but on this car I see NO rear sensors anywhere. The car did indicate it needs brake replacement, but the front brakes are still good so it can not be the front sensors that caused the indication, yet I can find no rear sensors.

George De La Rosa Replacing the rear rotors is the exact same procedure. Compress the caliper before you remove the old pads, its has two bolt (top and bottom) just like in front. Its all the same procedure he preformed removing the front rotor.

just dont tighten the lugs too tight or they can brake inside the threads.
his wrench stops at a certain force which would be 97 ft lbs.
on an impact gun connected to a compressor dont compress any more than 100lbs in the tank.

What size are the rotors for the front? I ordered a set of rotors that Partsgeek.com says were for the front of the 07 C230. They are 10.2 inches though and much smaller than the rotors on the car already.

    • @jgizzy
      @jgizzy 10 ปีที่แล้ว

The Partsgeek site is completely wrong. Use RockAuto next time it's much better. The front rotor sizes for this '07 C250 2.5 V6 Sport is 330 mm diameter which is 12.992". Even the rear rotors are significantly larger than the "10.2 inches" the website says.

What if you don't have an air impact gun? Then you resort to a 1/2 wrench and a mallet. The upper bolt holding the caliper is way more difficult because you need the exact right extension and don't forget the mallet.

oddshock824 says, "I just dont understand when he says 97 ft lbs... I mean if this is a DIY, I just dont know how many pounds im pushing or..?? Im not sure someone please explain. And TY for the vid."
search "torque wrench" ~ sets the torque settings at the desired ft lbs on the caliper bolts & lug bolts... listen for that click & that is tight enough...
PS: skip to 19:55 for the nice view!

    • @wayne6041

Ft pounds is how tight the bolts must be according to Mercedes Benz specs. The way you know how many ft pounds is by using a torq wrench you would set the wrench to 97 ft pounds then tighten until the wrench clicks letting you know it's at set ft pounds
