    This is the way to do it on these Cabrios!
    Hardly any dis-assembly required plus I cleaned out my lint trap! The most confusing part is mapping that serpentine belt. While routing the belt, I had the video freeze-framed at 3:38.
    Spring requires a little strength and you have to use your right arm. AS a lefty, I still pulled it off. Job done!
    Many thanks, sir! Can't say it enough.

    Attempted to replace the idler pulley this way but ended up having to replace the pulley and the arm since the pulley I ordered on Amazon, did not fit the original arm!! Once I got the spring loosened, could not put it back on with just one hand so had to take the whole thing apart. It would have been much easier if I could have just replaced the pulley wheel but that did not work. Still a good start to the process. Had to take it all apart and replace the whole arm and pulley but fixed an issue that the factory made when putting it together. Thanks for the video, it was a good start and almost worked!!

    What am I missing here ? This video does a great job of showing how to locate the idler pulley, but you completely skip over the most important part, which is how to detach and reattach the pulley. It seems that whatever parts hold the pulley in place, face the back of the machine and are impossible to see from the front of the machine. Additionally, I cannot see the routing of the drive belt. If I take this apart from the front, I'll never get it back together correctly. All of the comments here praise this method for being so easy and fast. Wouldn't taking the back off provide easier access to the pulley ? Is there any reason I should not remove the back panel ?

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phil Anderson At 2:53 it shows the plastic clip that holds it on and around 3:10 talks about taking the clip off. Sorry I could not get the camera in there to show the process or to show the belt configuration My dryer is hard piped and is not easy to attach the vent pipe again so taking the back off was not an easy job for me and I am not sure if you can get to it from a back panel. The only other way I know is to take the whole front off, take the drum out and then you can easily reach the pulley but is a much harder job getting the drum back in, the belt back on. This way if you are a bit mechanically inclined should be easy to do.

  • @peterc4380
    @peterc4380 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I fixed the squeak easily this way! Thanks
    For me, fixing was even easier than shown. I found I could work around the front manifold, so left it on. Just needed to un-tension the belt, by lifting up on the idler pulley. The plastic clip was pretty easy to remove by feel (it was good to see what the replacement part list was, so that I had an idea what was behind the idler wheel). The idler wheel was a bit tight and felt "frozen", but not too difficult to remove. Instead of using a silicone spray, I put a bit of wheel bearing grease in the idler pulley being very careful to only keep it on the "bearing surface". (I washed my hands after applying the grease just to make sure I didn't get grease on the idler wheel belt surface or the belt). As I was reassembling it was clear that the lubrication helped, in that the idler wheel actually spun freely making it a bit more difficult to put the belt and tension-er back in place, since in working with one hand I needed to better balance the idler wheel while pushing on it and getting the drier belt back in place. Took a few times to do... Fixed for two drier loads... I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Much easier than a major disassembly.

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being just a bit mechanically inclined can save the average person a few hundred bucks. I know just a service call around here is around $50.00 + (Cdn), so add in the time for a service tech to get the part, tear the dryer down, replace the pulley, assemble the dryer and test drive it --- well you know the $ add up quickly.
      Glad you did it on your own.

  • @sweetBARKH
    @sweetBARKH 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this video. Correct diagnosis. That pulley was the source of squeaking noise from my dryer. It's a plastic wheel with metal bushing (no bearing so it is not designed to last). Taking off the lower front panel was difficult. The retaining spring clip needed to be pushed down with a putty knife with much work. Taking off the pulley wheel was not easy either. I could not exert enough force to pull off the wheel from the front, so I had to take off the drum to get better access to the pulley wheel. I greased the shaft and put the new pulley wheel. Putting back the belt over the pulley and motor required a lot of strength to overcome the pulley's spring force. Took me roughly 4 hours to complete the job. It was worth it and complete satisfaction afterward. It's snowing outside today, so nice to have the dryer working again. Material cost $14. Labor cost $200 (even though I did not have to pay).

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well after the snow stops and you have your walk shoveled out, treat yourself to a pizza and drink of your choice. It is more work to remove the drum and all the other parts but the satisfaction of doing it yourself is priceless regardless of time spent.
      Have a great day

    This is the way!
    7 years later this is THE ONLY video that will tell you how to fix the pulley for this type of dryer.
    Note, in my case, the replacement pulley is not the same size in certain areas, the sides of the channel are deeper/bigger for example.
    I'm not sure what was wrong with the previous pulley, except that the shaft sleeve might be worn wider and thus causing jamming. There are no bearings as far as i can tell.

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No they would not spend money on a bearing. Let steel run on steel and something will sooner (than later) wear out so we can keep the parts department in business or the appliance dealer as some people would just replace their dryer.

    a Tip: when working the belt back on pulleys, sit cross legged or kneel in front of machine, and stick left hand through the open area on the left around back of that lower pulley working belt on FIRST and with right hand go around the other side pushing up the idler arm and slip the belt over it
    make sure belt is not flipped or crooked, line up on the dryer drum where the belt rub marks are!

    Thank you so much for this video! I got the part for around $8 on Amazon. I’m a 51 year old woman who likes to try to fix things rather than replace if possible . I was hoping to be able to take off the back on mine since it’s easily accessible but unfortunately mine doesn’t come off, you have to remove the drum and go in that way. Your fix from the front worked well for me. I have small arms so could reach in fine but once the belt came off I didn’t have long enough or strong enough arms to pull the wheel back up and get the belt around it. I reached in from the right to remove and replace pulley wheel. I needed to use a flat screwdriver to pry off the old clip and a lot of elbow grease to get that old pulley off. Getting the new one on was easy! Then I went in from the left to replace the belt. I had to have a helper go in on the right and push the wheel up while I placed the belt around it again. Other than that help at the end I was able to do it myself and so thankful not to have to pay a repair person or wait for someone to come out! It’s working great so far! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

    If there is a slight burning smell accompanying the squeaking would you think it’s the same issue or something else?

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      possibly, as the bearing may be seized and the belt may be spinning on the (un-turning) bearing causing enough friction to cause the belt to get hot and give off a burning / melting rubber smell. If there is an electrical issue, wires can become hot and cause a burning smell like melting wires too though.

    Now, could this be my issue or are there other items that cause the drum to spin and stay in place ? A I face it, it is in the lower right , middle to back end. My unit is either a little newer or a little older than yours as my bottom does not have a section that can be removed from the front. As it is placed in a corner, boxed in by a washer and several shelves, spending the 45 minutes to an hour to pull it out into the center of the room is less appealing if I cannot get a general idea of what I need to be looking out for ;)

Reverse the process and use lithium grease on the hole of the new pulley before you put it on. The triangle clip just pushes on. The only problem I had was getting the original triangle clip.. and finally used some elbow grease to pull if off with needle nose pliers (using two hands).

    The video made it easy. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Dryer runs quiet as a mouse. Saving money is great!

    Can you still use your dryer while its squeaking until the parts show up?

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. If you can stand the squeak.

    why didn’t you show how you got the pulley on and off?

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could not see that part because of the position I was in as the pulley was behind my hand, however from 3:00 to 3:12 I say to reach behind the pulley, take the clip off, put the new pulley on, the washer and then the clip on. If anyone gets as far as taking the clip off they will certainly be able to see how the pulley slips off the shaft.

      Halscamp So I have to take the triangular clip off? How do I replace it when I’m done?

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adam J. Smith Just push the clip on over the shaft once the pulley and washer are on. There is enough give on the plastic clip to allow it to expand enough to push on over shaft and it will seat itself once on far enough

      @@Halscamp Yeah, after I bought a pair of snap-ring pliers, I figured it out. I'm obviously a first-timer.

      Great, now you can return the snap ring pliers as you will likely never use them unless you are into repairing a lot of things. No need to spend money on the pliers, no need to spend money on an appliance repair person, a win win situation.

    OK you skipped over the part where you actually replaced it. Before and after but not the actual replacement.

    where do u find parts? online Lowes/Home Depot?

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should have an "Appliance Parts Supplier" or "Appliance Parts & Service" store in your area. They can get any part you may need.

      Googie Mike bought it on eBay. Search for idler pulley part number 279640. Cost less than $6

    Why wouldn't you just unplug the dryer? no need to mess with the electrical panel.

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      washer and dryer were in a tight spot with a shelf above it and dryer hard piped so very hard to get at plug.. In my case easier to use breaker. Thanks

    You can just take the back plate off instead of going in the front.

    • @Halscamp
      @Halscamp  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you can however as I stated in the video, Mine was hard piped and in a very tight spot and a lot of work to unhook the venting pipe and reconnecting it so going in from the front was an option and it was the option the video is all about

      Sure you could if you can get at the plug easily. Mine was not that easy as it was hard piped and no room to get in behind it.
