    I took everything mechanical apart and found nothing wrong with my dryer. None of the pulleys were bad and the belt was still in good shape. I did find a couple of penny's and a dime in the bottom of the dryer. After putting it back together there was no more squeaking and the dryer is operating fine. This makes me think the problem was that a coin had gotten stuck between the tub and either the back of the dryer or the front panel that holds the door. I'm not the kind of person that purchases things over the internet I don't need so I took the dryer apart before I wasted my money. Good Luck with your Dryer, Don't throw it out because it squeaks. Thank You Joe for sharing your knowledge with us! God Bless

    Good tutorial on taking apart the dryer, mine is a different model but came apart just as easy, the noise on mine turned out to be one of the rubber wheels that keeps the drum rolling which was becoming seized so I just had to apply some oil and it was back to normal use. Thanks!

    Thanks for the video. I did some vacuuming prior to praying the pulley wheel. Mine was a white pulley. There were to roller wheels towards the back on mine one on bottom left behind the round bin an the other right side too behind the bin. I sprayed the center of those two wheels too after cleaning them. So far driers back on squeak free for now. There was massive lint under there. Whirlpool 13 years old now. I’ve had the replace the temp sensor on it a few years back also but still going.

    Had a nasty squeak from a stubborn idler and tried the WD-40 method and it lasted 4-5 months... took it all back apart, removed every single pulley and cleaned them up as well as the shafts with brake-parts cleaner and a rag and took the time to clean the extra lint out of the shell and exhaust. Lubricated the shafts, retaining clips, idler and tensioner pulley bearing surfaces and the “path” of the belt on the drum circumference with Sil-Glyde brake grease and haven’t had a chirp yet! Hope it lasts, the dryer has always had a chirp and is currently running the quietest I’ve seen yet.

    Have an identical sound, though more intermittent. Opened it up and found a multitude of durrent pulleys and wheels, not sure where to check first. Hopefully this does the trick. **** I do think it's important to remind people that anytime you're inside your dryer housing, it's important to vacuum it out as much as possible. That lint buildup is where dryer fires come from. Every 2-3 years is ideal for piece of mind, doesn't take long.

      Always ALWAYS unplug appliances before working on them. Especially a dryer in this case. That 220 will kill you dead!

    Is this way of disassembling the dryer and where the pully is located the same for not just whirlpool but all front loaded dryers?

    • @Doityourselfwithjoe
      @Doityourselfwithjoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just did some research and it appears that they are. The back is usually for the heating and exhaust for the dryer.

    Hey is there a specific idler pulley I need to buy?

    • @Doityourselfwithjoe

      You should definitely look up the one that goes with your dryer. Google the name of your dryer then search for idler pulley or tennsioner pulley .

    When i tip my dryer forward lifting the back 6-8” the screeching noise stops. It sounds like it could maybe be the bearings in the back of the drum

      I have a Whirlpool and after taking mine apart I found a tub that has no bearings. Mine is a tube that sets in a grove in the back and a grove in the front panel. There is felt that keep the tub from rubbing metal to metal and a belt that spins the tub. I am sure you figured this out already but maybe it will help someone else. I also found the squeaking was not a pulley but a penny or dime that had worded it's way between the felt and the dryer housing. I'm now 13 cents richer. Remember to check your pockets!

    I'm wondering if the bottom of the dryer is completely enclosed or if it is partially open? If open at bottom maybe possible to tip it over on its side to get to that part easier?

    • @Doityourselfwithjoe
      @Doityourselfwithjoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm fairly sure they are all enclosed on the bottom because of the gas used to dry the clothes. Not sure about electric, however just thinking about it for safety reasons I'm 99% sure they all are. If anyone knows if I'm wrong please correct me.

    Okay I'm hoping I can get a quick answer to a problem of having... when I did this on my friends dryer worked perfectly on my dryer I screwed up and here's what's happened the button that controls the light has come apart from the door and I'm not sure how to reattach it where it goes exactly... I know it goes somewhere at the bottom but I'm not sure I see the clips but can you tell me exactly where that button is positioned it works fine it's still attached to the connector it's just come apart from the door

    • @Doityourselfwithjoe
      @Doityourselfwithjoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      my button is not attached to the door. It is attached to the dryer, when i close the door , the door pushes the button. I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about. If you send me a picture at doityourselfwithjoe@gmail.com i might be able to help.

    I ordered an idler pulley but cannot get that bolt loose. I've oiled as a stop gap but not sure how long it will last. I figure I need some sort of a ratchet extension but not sure what.

      @Doityourselfwithjoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry i didn't see this comment sooner. Not sure why i didn't. It would be easier to remove the bracket with an extension. you can see how i did it in my video where i actually change the pulley. Here is the link th-cam.com/video/ix5o6LgSbFE/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps

    So spray it every two weeks with wd40 till it goes out completely. Got it.

    • @Doityourselfwithjoe
      @Doityourselfwithjoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      That one way to look at it. I would get tired of taking it apart every two weeks, however I would be curious how long before it goes out completely.

    what about the drum bearing..is that a likely culprit for the squeak?

    • @Doityourselfwithjoe
      @Doityourselfwithjoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's not the idler pulley then yes it cold be. It could be anything with a bearing inside

  • @JSmith-Not-Smythe-Dear

    Last week on Thursday, my dryer started making a faint screeching squeaking sound, probably from the motor and the bearing starting to get worn out.

    • @Doityourselfwithjoe
      @Doityourselfwithjoe  ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt it is the motor. I thought mine was as well. I just replaced my pulley again. This time it made a different noise, and I thought it was the motor. after taking the dryer apart it was the idler pulley again.
