Hi Wale & Efra. The word "tatsulok" which translates to "triangle" comes from the words "TATLO" ("three") and "SULOK" ("corner") hence "three-corners". In this song, it's referring to the social pyramid where the few rich people are represented by the tip/top and the multitude of poor people are represented by the base/bottom. It's a cry for social justice especially in the application of the laws.

      Translated in a better context:
Totoy bilisan mo bilisan mo ang takbo
Hey kiddo liven up your running pace.
Ilagan ang mga bombang nakatutok sa ulo mo
Evade those bombs aimed directly to your head
Totoy tumalon ka dumapa kung kailangan
Kiddo jump up or drop down if needed
At baka tamaan pa ng mga balang ligaw
You might get hit by a falling stray bullet
(In those days, there was a problem about stray bullets falling because people were using firearms in newyears celebration)
Totoy makinig ka wag kang magpa-gabi
Kiddo Listen up' and dont stay out till dusk
Baka mapagkamalan ka't humandusay dyan sa tabi
You might get suspected and then fall on the side(of the street)
Totoy alam mo ba kung ano ang puno't dulo
Kiddo do you even know what's the whole point
Ng di matapos-tapos na kaguluhang ito
Of why this chaos never ends.
Hindi pula't dilaw tunay na magkalaban
It's not Red and Yellow that are adversaries
      (2 out of the 4 components by Colour of the Philippine flag. Which symbolises Blood and Hope respectively){the Blue symbolises Blue Bloods or royals or rich and White symbolises Purity and justice which the poor was never afforded}
Ang kulay at tatak ay di syang dahilan
The colours and branding is not the reason
Hangga't marami ang lugmok sa kahirapan
Whilst there are MANY that are deep in poverty
At ang hustisya ay para lang sa mayaman
And justice is only for those with riches
Habang may tatsulok at sila ang nasa tuktok
Whilst there is a Triangle and they're the ones on top
      Di matatapos itong gulo
      This chaos would never end
Iligtas ang hininga ng kay raming mga tao
To save the breathe of so many folks.
At ang dating munting bukid ngayo'y sementeryo
And the old small farmland is now a cemetery
Totoy kumilos ka baliktarin ang tatsulok
Kiddo MOVE and invert that Triangle
Tulad ng dukha nailagay mo sa tuktok
Like those poor you put in top
      Chorus repeats.

"Tatsulok" (Filipino word literally translated to Triangle; paraphrased as Pyramid) is a Filipino folk song originally composed by Rom Dongeto in 1989 and performed in 1991 by his trio folk-rock band, called "Buklod", which includes Noel Cabangon and Rene Boncocan. The song explains to a young man that there's an ongoing war and that the war is just the effect of a bigger problem.

I love the fact that you took the time to translate to better understand the lyrics and not just basing on the rhythm, I think that is how you properly appreciate the song. you are right that it is a "social observation" but it is more on the "political" side and the top of the Triangle represents government leaders more especifically before and during the EDSA revolution where songs like these were heard a lot (other bands such as Juan Dela Cruz band, Asin, etc... also have the similar concepts).

Tatsulok was originally written in the time of Marcos' opression and sung in the underground movements and released after Martial Law.. as a song of defiance and description of the society.. Tatsulok literally means triangle (pyramid) and speaks of the social triangle of the beaurocrat capitalists and the people below the poverty line.. struggling to this day for freedom.. red being the color of former president Marcos et al.. and yellow being the color of the Liberal Party of Ninoy Aquino et al..
    from google:
"Tatsulok" (Filipino word literally translated to Triangle; paraphrased as Pyramid) is a Filipino folk song originally composed by Rom Dongeto in 1989 and performed in 1991 by his trio folk-rock band, called "Buklod", which includes Noel Cabangon and Rene Boncocan.

  • @titanimarklee
    @titanimarklee ปีที่แล้ว +2

Bamboo actually covered this song. The original is by a band called Buklod. The original one is pretty good too, sounds less alternative, more “folk”. I like it better tho because it’s so raw. Like when you hear Bella Ciao. They also sing it in a more gut-wrenching way, imho, because they wrote the song.
Tatsulok is “triangle”. There’s this sociological concept of 2 triangles, one is upright, and one is upside down. The upright one represents the population, the upside down one represents wealth. Meaning, the very few on top of the population are getting most of the wealth. That’s why the lyrics asks the listener to tip the triangle.
Bamboo (when it referred to the band) had a lot of progressive songs. Unfortunately when they broke up, Bamboo (the singer) didn’t bring that with him.
