He's my grandson's janitor the kids love him. They kids had to talk him into auditioning.
They are some lucky kids to have him.

In all the years of this show this is by far my favourite surprise performance! 🎉 He so deserves it. He is incredible. I rarely watch anymore because so many acts are "professional amateurs". They just make the rounds going from show to show to show. This guy is what the show was originally when it was good.

To me, the best part is this is a humble man with an amazing talent. Completely unassuming person without any kind of cockiness which made it come across as a genuine down to earth individual. Looking forward to his next performance and maybe another BrittReacts to that performance.

What I love about him is everyone in that room was up dancing and singing. Because they recognize the voice and he was spot on. Richard probably has done small gigs before when he mentioned a long time coming. This was his chance and in front of people who would judge him. As you could see they gave him a 100% approval. That Golden Buzzer was the reward. Now he has a chance to show what he can really do. I’m rootin for him since I’m a custodian for schools😊😊

It’s a song that Billy helped write and he recorded it and released it after someone talked Billy out of not making new music anymore, he performed it at the end of the Grammys this year. Everyone forgets that those of us in our 50s and 60s were going once! We're 80s kids! This is just one sample of iconic songs from our teenage years that lasted forever. I remember when it was released. I was 11 years old and loved Steve Perry!
Richard wasn't a 55 year old man in 1981 when this iconic song was released. He was a 12 year old boy, with his Radio Shack 80s boom box, discovering music as a 6th or 7th grader.

Richard back in 2022 had a tick tok post of him singing to the kids in the auditorium of the school he works at for a sound check. Steve Perry himself commented on the post and said " I love this", it went viral very fast. Richard took a screenshot of the comment, posted it on his tik tok and pinned it saying in captions, "Are you kidding me??". Since that comment his singing career has taken flight. You hit on an important thing: the man did NOT oversell it AT ALL. He didn't dance, he barely even moved. He just stood there and let his voice do all the work, which is something only really good performers know how to do. Absolutely miraculous.

WE were in middle school (junior high back then - 7th. 8th, & 9th grades).
We all were listening to music on our Radio Shack 'boom boxes' in the early 80s!
(Believe it or not, your parents and grandparents were young, fun, and annoying once too! That's how we know what you are going to do before you do. 😂)
You are so right - if 13 year olds tell you that you can really sing, you can sing. 8th geaders will tell you that you are awful and not care. There is no one better in school than when you become buddies with the janitor. They know EVERYTHING that is happening in the school. He's seen at least two generations of students.

FYI, in 2022 a tictok video went out with him singing this and the lead singer of Journey couldn't believe what he had heard. He contacted Richard and asked him to perform with them when they played a small venue near his hometown. You couldn't tell the difference on who was singing without watching who had the mic up to their mouth. He sounds this much like the lead singer.
