I use my zipper foot so I can get closer to the batting without having to try to balance my regular foot on the edge of the batting. Not sure I explained that very well, but it works!
I've made this pattern for baby quilts. The only thing I do different is that I use this a a chance to practice my machine quilting. Instead of the x I quilt them with different patterns.
Nice easy quilt. I think I'd clip the sides as I went along... the idea to do it after it is all together has kept me from doing one at all. Love the way you made the two blocks. It would look great in a flannel. Thank you for your tutes..........
Hey Buddy, This looks so cozy and snuggley, I love it. Man I don’t know how y’all keep coming up with such cool designs 💖👍🥰 each week you guys Amaze Me 😍 Happy Holidays, take care and God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC
I think it would be fun using 2 different backing fabrics. One for the large squares, and one for the small squares. To me it would add more visualinterest.
It is a lovely rag quilt, thanks for the vid. But it is not wrong sides together, it is the right side of the backing together. So you could better say: "backing or back sides together"
Loved your video. I’m new to this and would like to make a twin size and full size but have no idea how much fabric to buy for each one. I have scraps but it would only be enough, I’m guessing for a lap or baby quilt.
We recommend using a solid color layer cake, as well as a print layer cake. We have a number of them on our website www.sewyeahquilting.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=&q=layer+cake Take care, Brody and Teancum
Very nice!! Newbie question.. How do you know how much fabric to purchase? None of the tutorials ive seen show that step. They tell how many squares needed for that project but not how to find the amount of yardage needed to begin with...
As you can see we are behind with replies. I am catching up and hope to stay that way going forward. I hope you have found the answer to your question by now. And thanks for watching!!
Could you clip the seams as you go, not sure if I'm a fan of all the clipping at once, that's what has stopped me from doing a rag quilt even though I love them
Sew many Q's?! How many squares of each small5x5" and large9x9"? Do you divide the squares in two piles to distribute colour And size? The 10" squares - cutting the 5x5 before trimming to 9x9"? Thanks
I think this is cool and it looks easy enough to do but you flew through the binding and I am not sure what you meant by saying we sew a half inch seam all the way around to make it have a ragged edge. Can you explain a little more on how to do that step.
Hi Sonia, Sorry if the binding instructions were not clear. All you need to do is sew a 1/2 inch seam around the whole edge, and then snip the edge like you do for the seams of all the squares. Take care, Brody and Teancum
Best video for a rag quilt! Simple and understandable instructions! Thank you sew much!!

After finishing a rag quilt, make sure to launder it and dry it in a dryer. That's what makes the seams really fluff up!
Good advice

Do you use flannel or just cotton on this quilt ?
Either flannel or cotton works.
Could you clip the seams as you go, not sure if I'm a fan of all the clipping at once, that's what has stopped me from doing a rag quilt even though I love them
I believe you could, just dont clip into the corners to make it easier to sew block to block and row to row... Thats what makes sense to me
Yes, you could clip the seams as you go. Just make sure you don't clip any edges that have not been sewn together yet! Take care, Brody and Teancum
Sew many Q's?!
How many squares of each small5x5" and large9x9"?
Do you divide the squares in two piles to distribute colour And size?
The 10" squares - cutting the 5x5 before trimming to 9x9"?
Thanks
So many questions all at once🤨😊😉

What is the finish size of the quilt?
It's 46" by 53"! The pattern has been updated and is in the description
did you just use yardage for the backing squares? I so want a rag quilt.
I would say he did. Just cut the batting into 4” x 4” and 8” x 8” squares.
Yes. It's just based on the size of the quilt. Take care, Brody and Teancum
