    Feeling your pain as many other first gen owners probably do, in fact you need to love these cars to keep repairing all the things that come up. I just paid a lot for a full rebuild of my 4.5 manual, because I really want to keep the car for longterms. I hope your engine is fine, everything else you'll fix over time. Would be great to see a video of your cylinder bores, good luck!

    The temp at 3/4 is not an issues at all ..the coolant tank is the weak point as it’s 2 halves that are glued together..and the glue deteriorates over time..the pressure then pops them apart, common issue 50 bucks part, change every 2 years for peace of mind.
    Bore scoring only happened on 955 mostly as I understand it.

    Not too bad tbh. Seems like you’re sorting it out and fixing some of the specific things you need for overlanding. I had to fix a whole bunch of issues in mine and now it’s sorted, although, I suspect I may need a new starter, soon. Keep up the good work, man! I saw you did the OC rally💪🏼

    You hit some points that I have issues with too. The coolant thing I have the same issue. I’m going to install some spal fan in front to help out when the temps start to climb. It will be more notable when you do 35’s. I also have noise coming from the front suspension. I’m thinking it’s the heim joints in the struts at the top. As far as the oil consumption maybe you should go a little thicker on oil to slow it down. If it internal the damage is already done. Just slow it down till it time to fix. I ran into the same issue with the wiring on the A pillar for my light bar but car quest sells a flat wire that fits perfect in there. A little tight at the top but with some slicing spray it slides right in. I to was scared about cracking the window. As far as the sub frame moving I haven’t had any issue with that but I did rough up the faces of the subframe spacers so it bites a little more.
    Other than that it’s all good.
    Keep up the good content they be some issues we all have to cross as this is all new to us

      @@HarrisonSchoen we love it, it's so smooth and powerful! Handles the corners so well, but also drives nice on dirt roads. It's currently on 20s, so I need to find some 18" wheels and tyres for it. I just unblocked the sun roof drains as we had wet carpets. I now need to upgrade the cardan shaft bearing bracket, as there's there's slight vibration. Then do a major service and change all fluids and filters.

    There are problems with any modified vehicles - going to 35 wheels will put more strain on the engine, drivetrain and suspension. Hope it all goes well and will continue watching as I would like to buy one and modify it for off road as well.....or maybe boring and get a toyota or nissan.

    Hi, thanks for sharing info on your Posche build. I am currently looking for a 2008-2016 Porsche Cayenne. There are many different models but my question is, do all Cayenne comes with a rear locker standard or do I need to look for a specific models or feature. Also, what is your thought about the air suspension on these cars? Anyway, thanks your content.

    • @HarrisonSchoen
      @HarrisonSchoen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Air suspension is acceptable if light trails. Anything hard you’ll want coils!
      None come standard with rear locker. You have to be fortunate to find one with it spec’d!

    So my Touareg had the issue with repeated O2 sensor issues I replaced the sensors that didn’t work then the Cats just to have the light come back a month or so after that the car bricked it’s self. I was told by several people that the ECU might need to be updated I ignored it thinking it will figure it’s self out but nope it bricked it’s self. I had it towed to a VW dealership and they replaced the ecu programmed it and 3500$ later it’s back with me and never had another light besides knock sensor that needs to be replaced which is my fault lol.

    Can't really complain about cheap chinese LEDs and roof racks doing cheep chinese LED and roof rack things. As for alignment (especially with big tires like this) find a shop such as Pep Boys--for a very small upcharge you can buy the better service package with unlimited re-alignments your vehicle for up to 3 years, even if you upgrade components such as shocks or control arms. As for fabrication work, if you can't weld it up yourself, you absolutely need to find recommendations for good shops. All that said, that is a lot of oil consumption and you should probably be checking and filling every 500 miles, not 1500. If there are no leaks, then you are probably right--the cats could be in jeopardy. The motor can withstand a bit of oil burning, but those cats are going to get expensive.

    These things look cool but I couldn’t imagine over landing one unless you dont care about money. I remember seeing multiple cayennes at the North Toronto Auction back in the early 2010s and they would almost never receive bids or meet the the reserve. So I briefly considered buying one, when looking at one (wanna say it was like a 2003) found all the paperwork inside of the glove Box. Stack of repair bills (like 20) not one of those bill was under $2500 and some where as high as 6000. I cant remember what exact work was done but that was enough to scare me away. Ive had 2 4Runners, honestly the most reliable worry free vehicles ive ever owned.
