I'm not a whiskey snob but I have tried different whiskey, bottom shelf. One that I started out with is Four Roses. Another one l tried is Old Crow. I keep coming back to Evan Williams black label. I've had the white label as well. I have to say that the black label is my go to standard whiskey. I'll always favor it as a consistent affordable working man's whiskey. It's under $20 for the 750 ml bottle.
Evan Williams black label is my regular Bourbon of choice, because it is not only a quality Bourbon, but in my opinion, the best bang for your Bourbon buck. A great value.
@Measurehead while I agree, some people prefer lower proof, so between the absurdly low price and the low proof normies love, it might be the best value. Especially for shooting and mixing
Love the history!!! Thank you for that, because it gets so overlooked. I prefer black label EW to Jack Daniels and Jim Beam's basic offerings. EW 1783 is an amazing value option and well worth the price difference from the standard EW fare. It is now my go to for 'basic bourbon'. This bourbon has regularly taken down much more pricey options in blind taste tests. I need to get EW BIB next. It always does well in blind taste tests, and has also taken down other bourbons that cost 2-3x more. Evan Williams may have a 'bad name' by being a budget bourbon, but the 1783 is a terrific multi purpose whisky.
Evan Williams is what i keep in my flask. It’s cheap and tastes great for being 86 proof. It also does a good job at giving me a nice buzz when i’m out and about lol
For the money, the black label is my go to bourbon. Relatively inexpensive, available and consistent. Actually prefer it over Jim Beam and Jack Daniels (which I know is not 'bourbon') in the same market space. It's also my local dive bar's house whiskey which is nice. Generally get a 2 finger plus pour for $3.50. Very enjoyable.
Never seen evan Williams in plastic here in California. It's $16.49 for 1.75L at total wine, it's my everyday. Bottled in bond is great too but I actually prefer old grand dad 80 proof to EW black but they jacked the price to $23 so I'm out when EW is under $17
EW black label is only 80 proof up in Canada. I find Bourbon under 86 proof like drinking water. Haven't gone deeper into EW yet. But i can get the Bonded and Single for a decent price out west. Maybe in my next order. Cheers Jason
After drinking Evan Williams Black Label for a while Jim Beam just tasted weak and thin I do enjoy high-end Bourbons but for the value Evan Williams Takes the Cake!
Thanks for reviewing these easy to find on-the-shelf overlooked ones. Helps us to figure out what’s good and easily accessible rather than just good but impossible to find.
The black label is my new go to inexpensive bottle, fantastic for the price. Tried a bottle of the 1783, thought it was terrible, couldn't drink it neat. Bad bottle?
1783 used to have a sticker on the bottle stating it was 10 years old. The price was under $20. It was a great whiskey value. Then the label changed, it's no longer 10 years old. Now I consider it a good whiskey value.
Good review. Glad I found your channel, your reviews are so informative. 1783 and BiB are my choice for Evan Williams, both are a really good value. How about some reviews on blended Scotch?
Another well done video. Agree 100% with your assessment of all 3 here. They are all very good quality bottles for the price and hard to beat for value. I just wish they didn't proof the single barrel down as much.would probably be much better at 100 + but i suppose that is 1 of the reasons it is so affordable.
I think so too. Even it it was a solid 90 it could be alot better. It needs more of a finish but I think its really for that EW customer that likes the easy sipping with a bit more oak.
Parker Beam has stated that they use barrels aged 5,6,7, and 8 years to create the flavor profile for Evan Williams black label. Personally I think EW black is fantastic, above all when you consider how cheap it is! I still haven't tried any of the other EW expressions, I really want to try the new 90 proof 1793, and the BIB, although I thin heard BIB being discontinued?
I got back to bourbon after binge drinking it as a dumb youngster. The name Evan Williams used to turn my stomach, but now its my 'forum' bourbon. I love bourbon on ice
Love the BIB! It’s a great one to keep in stock... tastes great, 100 proof and it’s $12. I would love to see Evan Williams release a 1783 barrel proof!
Thanks for introducing this to me, picked up a bottle of Single Barrel today and was impressed. Definitely a solid bourbon for a fair price. Any chance you will do a Noah’s Mill or Willet Reserve review?
Have to agree with others here, my experience with the SiB was different (2011 vintage). Very sweet, almost like drinking a churro, went back to it several times and it never improved. I use it in mixed drinks, which it’s great for, at $25 no complaints. Think I’ll go with the BiB fir a budget bourbon next. Great content as usual; love the history lessons!
I have yet to try 1783, but the 2009 SiB I have is phenomenal and the smoothest whiskey I've ever had. I'm still not a fan of the EW BiB...waiting to see if that bottle will open over time and lose the musty aroma I'm getting from it.
Love the family distillery side by side! If you'd only included the EW BIB it would be game over IMHO. A 100 proof 4 year BIB will beat a 6 year a lesser proof most every time. Good review!!
@@TheMashandDrum yes, keeping the EW BIB under the radar among us appreciatetors of high quality, low cost bourbon is understandable. I'd hate to see Heaven Hill do to EW BIB the travesty they did on Heaven Hill 6 year. There's a place in bourbon hell for that decision maker. Lol
Thanks for comparing these. I’ve had the single barrel a few times but was very inconsistent. The 1783 will have to be one to pick-up as I see it all the time. Stay safe man! 🥃 Cheers buddy
Great job man. The 1783 was my go to budget until I discovered the BiB, with both 13-15 here id rather just go for the BiB but might pour some of that 1783 tonight just try again. The single barrel is solid but I just wish it was a tad higher proof.
Don't care for the green, but everything else is good. Black ($11.50) is perfect for egg nog and good in coke or on rocks. White ($12.50) is the one to drink neat or with water. SB ($26-29) I enjoy neat as a really pleasant break from high proofers. 1783 is the odd one to me, as its seems to be fruitier, and not like the others, but good, especially at $18.
Really appreciate the series. ..especially the side by side. Agreed, the 1783 is consistent, affordable and the juice I keep in a fancy cut glass decanter. Visitors always gravitate to it and think its something special. Still think the BIB the best quality to price ratio, though.
I have been seeing 1783 a lot more in Jersey, and I think I need to give it a shot for sure. Value all day. I have to give it to Heaven Hill in the value and budget category. They are hard to beat. Great video as always buddy! Cheers 🥃
I had to agree with a lot of comments here, single barrel is either absolutely delicious or undrinkable. Bib and black label are pretty solid specially given their price. Btw great shows. Cheers fro Miami.
Great review J! My memory is foggy and I think I requested this before when you asked for head to heads... I would love to see the BIB vs the Black Label. We pay $40 CAD here for the BIB, but I’ve almost pulled the trigger since it is so highly regarded. Hard to do when Woodford, BuffaloTrace, Weller SR are only $45 CAD.
I love Maker's Mark I like Woodford Reserve but for my money Evan Williams Black Label is the best value out there if you want to pay for the name go ahead and get yourself some Jack Daniels but you're paying for the name not the quality

Try Evan Black Label mixed 50/50 with Evan BIB. Wow! Good stuff! Gets your longer finish.
Been drinking the Evan Williams black label for years. Don't let that low price fool anyone, it's good stuff.
Black label for me
I'll drink Even Williams black label is my personal favorite bourbon
Evan Williams is what i keep in my flask. It’s cheap and tastes great for being 86 proof. It also does a good job at giving me a nice buzz when i’m out and about lol

White label is my daily pour but I have no problem with Black Label
great review.
the new 1783 is 90 proof and $40 in Ontario the Black Label is 29 and the Single Barrel was 55 the 1783 is my favorite of the 3.
cheers🍻
I just picked up a second bottle of the black label 😋
Evan Williams is my go-to, especially for cocktails and soda drinks. Its what I drink when I don't feel like being fancy.
I highly recommend mixing it with zero Pepsi. It's not too sweet and the whiskey flavor comes through
12:11 I usually don't remember the last time I had 1783 either, that is till I regain consciousness and see the bottle is empty and have to get more.
After drinking Evan Williams Black Label for a while Jim Beam just tasted weak and thin I do enjoy high-end Bourbons but for the value Evan Williams Takes the Cake!
Had all 3 my favorite is Evan Williams 1783 hands down!!
evan williams black label surpised me with how good it is neat. be careful because shady liquor stores like to upcharge.
Excellent presentation.
Good value for the money...

Possibly a bad bottle..Either way I like the standard black label a bit more like you.
For a longer finish regarding the Single Barrel Vintage----- drink it first.
Great show, good info, I love 1783, but have not tried the other two. I will now!
Excellent review as usual. Good historical information. I kept thinking a car horn was honking in the background, lol.
Great review. Never tried EW. Mainly stick with JB Bonded and Knob Creek. But definitely gonna give it all a try.
Go for that 1793. Its pretty damn good for the price. 20 bucks. Cheers!!
1783 is now 90 proof I noticed the other day in the store. Curious if that bit of extra alcohol helps it.
The first time that I ever drank straight Bourbon and liked it, Evan Williams Black Label on the rocks, a very long time ago.
It great introduction to bourbon. Cheers!

Love the single barrel at $26! Great value and delicious! Cheer's
They are all good buys, but BIB wins for me. To be honest though, WT 101 hits my preferred flavor profile better.
Love the BIB! It’s a great one to keep in stock... tastes great, 100 proof and it’s $12. I would love to see Evan Williams release a 1783 barrel proof!
I know the bib gets a lot of play but I really like the 1783. Nice hat by the way.
Thanks for introducing this to me, picked up a bottle of Single Barrel today and was impressed. Definitely a solid bourbon for a fair price. Any chance you will do a Noah’s Mill or Willet Reserve review?
Glad to hear. I did a noahs mill vs Roan's Creek video a while back. Working on a willett one soon.
Would you go with this or grand dad 114

@@TheMashandDrum perfect that's what I grabbed out of those 2! Thanks for the reply.
That single barrel 2011 I have is amazingly smooth and delicious
Who knew in 2022 EWSB would no longer be 'on the shelf'. Another standby falls victim to the bourbon rush.
All the EW products are solid for the price.

EW black label is the bourbon that Fred Minnick compares all bourbons to.
