Evan 12 year is one of the best whiskeys I've had. I had it back to back with Weller Special Reserve, Blanton's, and Eagle Rare. I was looking forward to the Weller, and was wildly let down. I didn't even consider the EW 12 year, so I didn't expect what was coming... a seriously INCREDIBLE whiskey!

I happened to be drinking some EW BIB while watching this. For me, it's my everyday bourbon. I like it over ice, which, as it melts, opens up the flavor profile. I'm no taster, but I like the sweetness I get out of it. There are other flavors I don't know how to categorize, but I like them. I wish I could get it at the prices you state, but in my area, central NJ, it's a $24 bottle. But, I can get the 1.75L for $31, which is what I get. I do like the Black Label a lot, but I like the higher proof of the BIB a bit more. The Single Barrel was awesome, but as you note, you can't find it anymore. I wasn't really impressed with the 1783, but maybe I should go back to it and try it again. I'd love to try the Red Label!
Overall, as you state, these are awesome bourbons for the price, and IMO could easily be sold for $10 or $20 above the normal price under a different name. Sure there are better, but when you're on a tight budget, any EW is hard to beat. It would be #1 in "bourbon for the buck" in my book.

3:09 as a person who many times bought EW BIB, the taste and flavor are not always the same. (Because it’s a cheap BIB), but if you get the good one it’s a great bourbon for the price.

The 1783 and BIB are staples in my collection... when we kill a bottle, it's replaced promptly. And the value and how good they taste are tough to beat. It's like i say, when you pick up a 40 to 60$ bottle, is it 2 or 3 times better than the Evan Williams bottle that you paid 20$ for???

  • @robertjmckenna

The Evan Williams White Label is my favorite and does not even need a qualifier (ie price statement like the black); I keep it in stock always. I often get a natural peanut butter flavor that blends into the dusty corn profile giveaway on bourbons and is very pronounced on the BIB in addition to 10 other flavor notes. I could take or leave the Single barrel (see around $40). I do not care for the 1783 at all. Lastly, I would rather spend $140 on something else other than the 12. Thanks for another solid episode.

EXCELLENT review and video guys. I can't believe I didn't buy a bottle of EW Black Label on sale at my local Walgreens or $7!! That seems absurd until I remember that the late Heaven Hill BIB 6 year went for $10. Same distillery of course, but the Heaven Hill was cheaper and superior. That was simply IMO the best Bourbon value on the planet. I still have a few, and I loved it much more than the EW BIB. 1783 is really good but the EW SB was my gateway into Bourbon. That Bourbon will always hold a special place in my heart for establishing my love for Bourbon. Sounds like I need to go on a tour to get a 12 year! Watching this video made he go out and buy a bottle of the single barrel and do a blind with the 1783 and I have to admit it was so dam close, I think the nose on the single barrel is (slightly) less ethanol than the 1783 and the pour itself is easier on the palate if your new to bourbon with a hint of some kind of fruit on the front end…apple maybe that I didn’t get on the 1783. The Evan Williams 12 yr. I have never even seen before here in NY and at first, I thought they relabeled the Evan Williams fire bottle…lol. IMO the black label is for people who are truly on a budget but also get to enjoy a real good tasting bourbon that most other budget bourbons don’t give you, and the white label is for mixers, there are to many really good bourbons out there that are affordable and much better sippers with a cube or in an old fashioned. I just with the E/W single barrel wasn’t $33.99 and was closer to what you paid! Awesome comparison guys & may it always be the other guy that says.... this ones on me 🥃Cheers

EW B-I-B has been my bargain one until Early Times as I said before. My area seems higher than yours, or previous reader, as it is about $21. The 1783 in my area is about $24. I'm going to look for the Single Barrel Vintage as you suggest. Thanks for yet another fun review. I like Trenton to appear on screen on occasions as you are doing. First one of your videos I’ve seen.
Reason I stopped in, I was browsing this week and noticed 1783 on sale $14.99.
Since you like the 12 & it’s “oakiness” let me propose an experiment that I’ve done on some bottom shelf bourbon and even a bottle of Irish which normally means no taste.
I have some sticks from a stave I was given when touring a nice Nashville distillery.
The experiment: pour a bottle of BIB in a quart jar (with a moonshine cap) add 1-2 sticks and store, but keep a little in the bottle for comparison.
Shake it a couple of times a week and taste test each month until it hits what you want.
For comparison, aging one month in a gallon barrel is the equivalent of a year in a 53 gallon barrel. So see how quickly you can produce your own 12 year.

Good review. Don't care much for the EW black, love the single barrels I've had except one, and the EW white is occasionally good sipper but is favorite mixer along with WT101. EW white has perfect proof point for mixing without overpowering the drink, while still having strong enough flavors that they don't get lost in drink.

I tried the black label a while back, and didn't particularly care for it (but I might go back and try it again). I've found I like the bonded stuff - I had my second glass of it tonight, and now I'm working on Wild Turkey 101, and the Evan Williams is not suffering in the comparison. The Turkey is the better whisky, of course, but the Evan Williams BiB isn't hugely far behind.
I've not had the other Evan Williams offerings, but I'll have to put 'em on my wish list.

Under $10 per 750 ml bottle for the EW BiB 100. That is because the 1.75 L jug is $23. In Texas. They are right, the EW BiB 100 isn't the smoothest or most intense but for under $10 a bottle it is an absolute winner. I always have one or two in my bar. I also use it as a base to try additional flavors, like toasted oak or sugar maple or cherry wood sticks left in for 4 to 6 weeks. Or to make my own cinnamon whiskey using whole cinnamon sticks.
