I am 31 and this almost makes me cry adhd is so hard but the thing that is so sad 😭 is when doctors dismiss you without even asking you ONE QUESTION about your symptoms.

Michelle Espino Girl, I’m 32 and just found out myself. I saw a psychologist for a year, complaining and confused as to why I’m unable to focus etc. and she never mentioned a possible ADD diagnosis. I ended up being fired from my job due to lack of focus and wasn’t able to continue seeing her. Now that I know what ADD is, it blows my mind that it wasn’t obvious to my past psychologist. We really need to advocate for ourselves.

Hard, regular, daily exercise, running, aerobic, preferably before work or college, this will help decrease some of the stress, this will boost dopamine levels and help a little bit. straight after work or college, jog or run, gym whatever, this will cut down some of the days stress.

I'm 19 and I also have been diagnosed ADHD, I understood I had ADHD this year and then I went to a specialist without telling him my intuition, but only speaking about symptoms. Doctors are stupid very often, being annoyed by people's self-diagnosis

Kutlwano Kgosing if you’re 20 you can go to the doctors and get meds and your parents don’t even need to know. At 18 there is client confidentiality, you are adult so it really doesn’t concern your parents , of course you want them to be supporting you but hope that helps!

I think my worst experiences with my ADD was at work places. Because I was just unreasonably slow and my employers thought I was doing it deliberately... And I felt really bullied, because I was always doing my best and couldn't imagine how other people did those things faster.

July Ol Same. I was actually fired for not being able to keep up with quotas. Both myself and another girl with ADD were the only two falling behind. It wasn’t until after I was fired that I figured out I too have ADD. I can’t wait to get an official diagnosis and try meds. Something has to give.

won't deny ADHD, is tough , when this lady talked about exam time experiences , that is exactly how I was and how I am, easily distracted, focus all over the place, I remember in class the teacher would be talking and I'd forget straight away, what she'd say, i'd read through work when studying for exams, over and over making notes, hardly anything would go in,. same in college.

i am 36 years old it seems like I out grown it . I graduated 2000 . 2001 I started collage , I failed pre- Algebra 3 times. I had extra time on my test. I was put in a room by myselfto take test . Because I get easally distracted by the smallest noise. I dropped out of collage because I could not pass Alger-bra I got very depressed, W/ negative thoughts, and felt like a failure. So working at a grocery store I tried to move up. I made stupid mistakes I got passed up for promotion after promotion. I had to fight to become a cashier. in 2005 I got 3 scam artist that caused me to get demoted , back to bagger. then transfers to the bakery. I got passed over for promotions finally had a talk to the store manger who gave me up to a baker position. I was sopsed to b e trained in mixing.as a result of my slow processing speed I was not getting or able to retain what my manager was teaching me fast enough it took me servile times to be shown . it cost the company time and money so they basically postponed my training,..... or discontinued it ..... it is a living hell. One day the Hr manger came in the store. I felt like I got discriminated against because of my disability. I thought the open door policy would be able to give me acomodations to help me with my training . 2013 is when I contacted HR after that the company retailatd aganst me and they demoteded me to a clerk again. yes my ADD has caused this to menifest. It seemse like I canr't live a normal life . I want to die! I feel useless a piece of shit! the ad meds side effects are bad increased suisidle thoughts. weight loss and bad mood , anger.
I wasted 20years in this company tryig to become a manager just like every 30yr old around me who has kids and is married, it a never ending cycle! it is 2017 I passed my Algerbra! I am gong into the medical field I will succeed in life , I still have fear of rejection, and failure. I think of Walt Disney >. And Ray Crock who founded Mcdonalds at 52.
a DR. helped my add in a weird way, but it worked. Also the Algerbra helped me to stay focused..

i was diagnosed at 19 with adhd and i was put on ritalin and the side effects wasnt nice the first 4 days then i got moved on to concerta and it really worked for me but when i stopped taking it for over a month i felt worse then when i started taking it again i had side effects for 3 days then after that i stopped having side effects and i just told myself i wont stop the medication for over a month because it made me feel very anxious without medication and when i was in high school they never said anything to my parents all they said to my parents is that i have a learning difficulty but never mentioned anything about me seeing a psychiatrist or anything but when i left high school i decided to go see a psychiatrist and explain how school was and growing up then they did a questionaire and said u have adhd and they put me on medication and i never knew about adhd until i was diagnosed and now i feel like i can actually focus and understand what i need to do in my day where as before i would just be so fustrated and would just not understand what the teacher was saying like in high school we would get esays and i would just not do it because i could never understand what was going on and i would walk out the class and go to the park and i would be so upset because i could not understand any work i was given to do in the class. if anyone has any questions ? just ask me

if anyone talked, I'd forget straight away, it was horrible Because when you forget things like that you get labelled as thick or stupid, which I remember I was called a lot when I was younger. even though I have a degree, hnd , qualifications, I'm stuck in a warehouse job because, I can't cope with stress, I'm unsupported and struggling, plus I also have the hyperactive side as well which is difficult as I'm a born again Christian and can come out with some wacky things, other believers just label me as very sinful, non Christians label me as a pretender, not saying I haven't had moments of sin where I have let the Lord down, but sometimes I react in illness not sin, like frustration, extreme impatience, get hammered on all sides really. and when I have this people are so unwise to say it's just me, I'm just lazy, and I don't have ADHD, it's just my personality. only problem is the more I study listen to people s personal accounts of this illness, it all fits it all describes me to a tee, like even when when this lady talked about her experience s in school , she just spoke exactly how I was.

Really helpful video! I'm 25 and from the UK so costs/stimulant names will be different, but I tried Concerta too and it didn't work for me either. What you described - the HORRENDOUS come down from energised to anxious then eventually to uncontrollable sobbing, was a daily occurrence for me. I'm gonna try elvanse (Vyvanse in the US I believe) tomorrow for the first time.
My psych has mentioned that things like CBT and coping strategies alongside meds make all the difference. Maybe you can speak to your doc about combined medical and behavioral treatment.
I hope things work out for you anyway!
    PEACE

What about Atomoxetine? That's a second line treatment, it's a non-stimulant drug. Your doctor should have told you about it, it is another very good option that's available, and althought it has its own side effects, since it isn't a stimulant the adverse reactions are different from those you described in the video. After that, there are also other medications available, like Guanfacine, Clonidine and Modafinil.

Hi, as a suggestion, I would really recommend you do a neuropsychological test to see if you’re truly add. Being adhd myself, and gone through years of therapy and support, I quickly picked up from watching your video that you do not seem to have add. Your case sounds more like anxiety rather, which can be triggered by big crowds and the pressure of testing. Your reaction to the meds isn’t for someone with add/adhd. If you really needed it, it would balance your emotions, give you a sense of calmness, focus and clarity. You would also sleep better, no longer fidgety and finally able to focus on things you don’t necessarily care for. One med may work better than the other, but all worked to their extent and once you find the right med & dose, you wouldn’t need to increase it past the max so soon. I’ve been on the same dosage for years, never had to increase it. We are all different of course. Stay well.
