    As someone who had their licence 35 yrs since I was 17, I find your videos so interesting, even the basic ones.
    As driver's we never ever stop learning & we do as "experienced" (I use the term loosely) drivers tend to take things for granted & dare I say it.......... Cut corners with regard to our driving, your videos are so so informative & intuitive.
    Keep up the good work & great video content.

    For me the real problem in parking is the following. Say we try to park to the left. When we approach the curb, we need to steer two times: the first time, we steer to the left to approach the curb and the second we steer to the right as shown in 6:06. For me (correct me if I am wrong), we shall make a reference point not only for when the car is well parked but also for when we are about to turn to the right (6:06). The reason is that if we are late in steering to the right, we may hit the curb. Make sens ?

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you look carefully we actually steer 4 times! Towards the kerb, then straighten, then away from the kerb, then finally straighten! Having more than one reference point is impractical, and is only intended to help a new driver build their judgement. After 10 or 20 goes you’ll be able to judge it for yourself without using artificial reference points. 👍🏼

    I'm from Glasgow but grew up abroad. Last week I had my first driving test in the UK but I'm an experience driver and I've driven in many countries. The examiner said to me "when it is safe to do so please pull over", I found a safe spot, indicated and pulled over.
    After the test, when we got back to the test centre he said I Failed. I look at the report sheet and I got 1 minor fault and 1 major fault. The minor fault was for indicating late on a junction and the major fault happened because when I pulled over the little rascal kids driving a black BMW obviously their parents honked for me because I pulled off and the examiner said I caused them obstruction which I don't understand how I did. The UK system is a bit silly, because someone honks for you during a driving test means the examiner will fail the person even if it was not by your making. I find that appalling, stupid, lame and silly. I told the examiner to go get some brains because what happened there was just some kids being silly and I failed for their actions with just a minor fault. How stupid!!!

    • @chrisb8075
      @chrisb8075 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AdvanceDrivingSchool how can you say it sounds a little harsh? Better response would be some advice to the poster about how to conduct themslseves in a way that would elicit a more productive and fuller explanation from the examiner. You know Nothing of the exact circumstances, you have solely the account of the person involved which is hugely unlikely to be balanced. Clearly you've learned NOTHING about human psychology nor do you afford the examiner any respect for his judgement. Your lesson above is patronising, lacks relevant information and shows only your own lack of understanding and skill. Ps no I'm not going to elaborate further as that would serve only to educate you at my expense.

    • @chrisb8075
      @chrisb8075 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @ Guy Hud its a shame there wasn't some way you could have found out why the examiner judged the situation as he did, like, oooo I don't know ASKING HIM, instead of bitching about it. Stop being a victim.

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to make your own reference point, to suit your car and driving position. Just carefully park near the kerb, and see how it lines up with your wipers / dashboard. Then copy that next time you park 👍🏼

  • @zaradodwell4113
    @zaradodwell4113 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what if the examiner makes you pull over onto the road markings that you know your not meant to park on? when they say "pull up at a safe space" etc or when you think it isnt safe because you know the markings are not meant to be parked on? Do you just park on them anyway as there is no other choice?? eg double yellow or the school parking markings

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The examiner won’t try to trick us - there will always be somewhere safe to stop. We need to demonstrate our knowledge of the Highway Code when we stop by finding somewhere safe and legal. Don’t feel that you need to stop immediately - take a moment to choose somewhere suitable.

    I get the idea of reference points as an easy and learner-friendly approximation, but I still think that there is no better way of knowing your exact distance from the curb, as well being able to get as close as possible without touching it in a 100% controlled manner, than using the wing mirror on that side.

      The side mirrors can be quite misleading, as they only show the rear wheel - the front wheel might be far closer to the kerb than that.

      @@AdvanceDrivingSchool Thank you for replying to my comment. With respect, I am still not convinced, as reference points don't work at angle either. And while reference points are heavily dependent on position of the eyes the exact same way as when taken, what you see in the mirror has no such dependencies.

      Any reference point is individual to that person, and is only intended to help a new driver whilst they gain experience. Eventually their own judgement will be enough to park / manoeuvre etc. 👌🏼
