    14:00 - emergency stop. The driver of the red Astra should re-sit their test. They tried to move past while a cyclist was coming the other way, a head on collision was actually averted by the learner driver pulling away.

    • @RichO1701e
      @RichO1701e 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@trevorackroyd9931 Initially, the Astra did pull in, but watch 14:11, once the driver has decide to overtake the learner, they indicate and pull out, at the SAME TIME as the cyclist is coming past the learner.
      They didn't see the cyclist or thought it would be ok to squeeze past the learner AND the cyclist. You're supposed to give cyclists 1.5 meter(5foot) of space. Either way, the Astra performed an unsafe manoeuvre and had they been on a test, they would have failed on a major fault.

    11:04 Not gonna lie, I feel like this fault was partly due to the examiner confusing the student. He really should've just let her take the left turn; she likely would've done it safely as she seems to have carried out the correct observations and no faults would've been made, as disobeying the examiners' directions is not a fault if done safely.

    • @JasonDMurrray

    • @Aviertje
      @Aviertje 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheTif105 To be fair, the satnav is not the driver and can give wrong instructions, so a driver should be able to adjust on the fly in a safe manner. But on the other hand, the instructor should realize that if they give an instruction, the student will follow it where they may not if it was just a random passenger. So it is still primarily on the instructor IMHO.

    • @incrediblehulk8031
      @incrediblehulk8031 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The instructor said go straight. The driver still kept the left signal on. The other car in the junction came out thinking their going left. So it is the learners fault.

  • @simply_tom
    @simply_tom 3 ปีที่แล้ว +228

    At 10:45, was this fault not partially caused by the driving examiner? If he hadn't intervened and told the driver to cancel the signal and go straight, she likely would have turned left in a safe manner, without misleading other traffic? And going the wrong direction isn't a fault?

    • @ronmensah5271

      I completely agree it would be safer for her to turn left. Once she put the left signal on her intention was to go left and if she did it would be safer for everyone. The examiner said it after he also saw her put her left indicator on. Is this something worth appealing?

      You can also see that she turned the left indicator off in good time before the fiat pulled out - and so whether the fiat did their extra checks or the sunlight made it difficult to see the learners signal we do not know but you are taught to never trust a car is going to turn into the junction and should always wait until the new road is clear, and so it seems a bit contractictory and unfair to fail her on incorrect signal as she reacted well in my opinion. I agree that the instructor shouldn't of really intervined a second time.

      You do know that respect and the way you get treat works both ways don't you? If you had a half decent Instructor they would have told you to be nice and ask how the examiner is doing back after they have asked you. Goes a long way the initial and first impression does. If you are vacant, absent and dormant upstairs and don't make an effort to break the ice the examiner won't go out their way to be nice to you. This is a lesson for life not just during driving tests

    Many years after having passed my driving test, I still like watching these videos to see if I have anything to improve or any bad habits to correct. Although many of these fails are really overkill in real life, I understand why it has to be done in this way. New drivers need to have perfect habits (100%) at the beginning, after if they forget 10-20%, it’s still good. But if they only have 80% at the beginning, they may end with 40%-50%, it’s not safe for everyone.

    3:53 - pedestrian started crossing on red. Are we supposed to stop for pedestrians that started crossing on red, even if there is enough space to get around them?
    11:02 - yes, that was misleading, yes, we had to break, but "sharply? I would argue, that decelerating from 17 to 15 is not "sharply".

    No wonder most drivers are dumb. The licence process makes you drive like a robot... Failing you for literally everything possible, to make extra money for another run. Can't even touch a kurb or even have time to slow down for a speed limit change, expecting you to hit the checkpoint dead on. The UK doesn't want people to drive... Everything is as expensive as possible to put you off.

    • @tyrantworm7392
      @tyrantworm7392 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are a couple of dubious fails here, but neither of those two were them. There was plenty of time to slow down when visibility of the 50mph signs was gained, but before the speed limit was broached, you are taking a test after all. You can touch a kerb, but you can't mount the pavement, however long it was for.

    • @chinwelonga5307
      @chinwelonga5307 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @FirstDriveUK
    @FirstDriveUK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    At 10:45 that shouldn't have been a fail. If the instructor didn't intervene she would have safely carried on with the left turn and since she has already indicated, the instructor shouldn't have intervened. Also after the intervention she did immediately cancel her signal, which would cause confusion to the fiat driver but that's not her fault.

    Sorry but test fail 2 is bollocks...another reason why this new pedestrian rule is not only stupid and unfair for road users but also potentially dangerous. If the main traffic light was green that means that the crossing signal was on the red man which means that any pedestrian should NOT be crossing the road in the first place! So how about the pedestrian actually obeying the rules of the road and waiting until the green man, which is exactly what they should be doing....To blame the driver for the pedestrian being impatient and crossing the road when he/she should not have is insane. I mean you realise in some countries, this could qualify as jaywalking and get fined for it.

On my test I had to carry out the reverse manoeuvre on the right hand side of the road, after this I went to pull off and signalled right, I’d wondered why the examiner was craning his neck behind but thankfully no other traffic about otherwise I’d have got a serious not a minor. I don't get test fail 4, the speed limit was 70mph & then all of a sudden 50mph, they did slow down gradually if you don't do it gradually wouldn't that slow down drivers behind & be to harsh?

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those 50mph signs are visible for 1/4 mile (or over 10 seconds) before the driver got there, which is plenty of time to slow down. Failure to slow down by the time the sign is passed is still speeding, and also proves the driver isn’t planning far enough ahead. On a real test the examiner might be more lenient, but in our experience if any speed limit is exceeded by 5mph then a serious fault will be given.

    I find in a lot of these videos the learner is not entirely at fault - e.g. number 3, the red car was moving at an unreasonable speed for a residential area, or number 6 - they clearly dropped back after changing lanes and left more of a gap than the white car had from the one in front, and therefore was likely following by example. Yes they are at fault in the end but I feel this video is rather harsh in some ways.

    I have been driving in my country for over 20 years and I have a full license, when I came to the UK I start observing the vehicles here and most if not all even the high end cars if you take a look at the side of the rims on the cars here they are scratched up so bad, it seems like everybody here hitting curbs. The things the examiner fail persons for, I see the same mistakes from people who have had their license for years, driving with one hand for an extended time smoking while driving, do you know how dangerous that could be if that cigarette falls from between your two fingers, I see people on the road every day who can’t even park their cars for all the years they are driving. Driving is a constant practice and there is no perfection in driving every car has its own feel and take sometime to get use to, some clutch is soft some gives you a bit of assistance, some examiner is really harsh, and the same mistakes they make everyday. I bet If you line them all up and say show me what u drive I bet the rims on all their cars will have a scratch.

    Test fail 6 : I think when the driver was planning to overtake, the examiner should have told them that they'd be taking the next exit. The examiner waits for them to be in the right most lane, overtaking vehicles joining from the slip lane and reveals about the exit. I find this strange.

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The driver had already been told that they were taking the next exit, but still chose to overtake anyway. Their poor planning is what put them in that situation - however even then there were 2 safer options they could have taken instead of tailgating the silver car.

  • @ParcoLee

    Hello, I got 2 question about exams.
    1. If I'm following slow traffic on the left lane, but I'm happy with that, and I would like to just let me finish the test in this way, as long as I get unlimited easy patience with no other commands from my examiner on that road. Such like on a 70mph D.C. road, and I'm following a queue of 45mph ~ 50mph traffic, if examiner doesn't tell me to change lane or overtake the queue, and I'm very happy with following slow like that. Nothing else examiner has said. So will I fail or be marked down as too slow (like appropriate speed) if I don't change my lane or don't overtake at all?
    2. If I have to overtake a cyclist and oncoming lane is clear so I overtake on half of oncoming lane and half of my own lane, or even just right on the oncoming lane. Do I have to signal right, or am I allowed to signal right while I begin my overtaking?
    Thank you!

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  ปีที่แล้ว

      1: You are expected to make good progress and keep up with the flow of traffic - just as you should after your test. Of course every situation is different, but if you catch a very slow vehicle and it is safe to overtake then you probably should. The examiner should not have to tell you how to drive - their job is to decide whether you are a safe driver or not. If they feel you are driving too slowly for too long then they could fail you.
      2: Consider whether your signal would help others or not. Do you indicate every time you pass a parked car? Are there any right turns nearby? You must decide whether a signal will confuse others or help them!

    • @AdvanceDrivingSchool
      @AdvanceDrivingSchool  ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on the situation - such as how much other traffic there is, and how far you need to go on that road. Remember that driving too slowly could frustrate other drivers, and potentially cause danger. The examiner is looking for a safe and confident driver - not someone who drives too slowly and delays other traffic.

    • @ParcoLee

      @@AdvanceDrivingSchool Whatever that low speed is neither under my control nor my intention (e.g. like stuck ahead on my lane)? If I am following a car and the light is green I don't expect him to stop and let people cross.

      Rules can vary quite a lot in different countries, which is why we must be careful when driving abroad. For example, in the US you can turn right on a red traffic light - but that would be highly illegal in the UK!
