Apple is a walled garden, easy to use but more limited.
Android and Windows are Las Vegas, there’s practically no limit to what you can find on them but it takes more effort to learn to use well. Also there’s a lot more of trial and error trying to get something to work right on your particular device.
I like a mix of Apple and non-Apple. Apple phone, Apple tablet, Windows laptop, Windows gaming PC. I want my phone to be reliable and don’t care to do too much variety on it. I want to do whatever I feel like on my laptop.
Also I find Apple handhelds link better to Windows PCs than Android handhelds link to Apple computers. So my iPad can transition to a second monitor for my laptop while getting all my notifications from both OSes on it, and then turn into an iPad and clear off my desk space when I’m done using it as a monitor.

When I use to drive for Lyft it was so useful to not rotate my screen back vertically just to access my Lyft drive account. But keep it horizontal and have a better view of maps. Because I would go out of everything just to access iTunes because I had a drivers playlist for softer songs. And when I just finished watching another video about possibly moving the Face ID to the side of ipad pros and the face the 13 pro max allows you to do Face ID when your face and phone aren’t vertical at the same time. I think it’s out already. Could be a 16 thing, but still. I thought maybe it’ll come back. The battery percentage is. To taketh away only to provideth back. Yes my child. I smiled.

I knew the widgets to be an issue, as if you remove all your widgets on plus model iPhones with home buttons, the rotation works. I propose a solution: A switch in settings. If they flip the switch to turn on HS rotation, a pop-up could say "please disable widgets to use this" or something. Even better, if you flip the switch, give users the option to then choose locations of widgets/apps/folders per page in both orientations. that way, the user could decide where everything would slide to when rotated. all only if the user wanted to enable it, that is.

If I recall correctly, iPad Pros do unlock properly using Face ID in landscape mode. Since the iPad's Face ID is more similar to iPhone models before 13, I suspect that previous Face ID hardwares are capable, but apple decided to limit the availability of such features for the customers to get newer devices. Time will tell.

The example widget layout shown looks like it would have been quite easy to rearrange. There may be some more problematic layouts possible, though I suspect that one way of resolving this would be to selectively shrink any that cannot be made to fit down to a smaller version. App icons could easily be moved to fill any other free space.

I don’t buy it. The first reason is nonsense. When you see the iPad Pro with the “notch”, the Face ID can worked in landscape mode pretty well. That means the Face ID actually have the ability to recognize face in landscape mode but Apple wouldn’t want to release this function to current iPhones.
Maybe iPhone14 or 15 will be featuring “hey! Face ID now can unlock your iPhone in landscape mode” and charge you a more expensive price for that “new” feature.

But both of these things work fine on the iPad. FaceID works in landscape. And widgets just reconfigure themselves and the OS stores two layouts for the icons. • @popy313
      @popy313 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Because they use the housing of a wireless charging compatible iPhone( the 8), so adding it just costs the amount the coil cost to produce, removing the feature would mean the assembly lines would need modifying greatly increasing production costs
The se is cheap because the flagship launch of the 8 paid for the infrastructure needed to make them, meaning Apple didn’t have to pay as much of the cost associated involved in launching a new product
And when it comes to mid tier such as the iPhone13 non pro, they have to build the infrastructure regardless so the small copper coil is a tiny fraction of the overall expense, most likely costing fractions of a percentage in the overall cost to build

quick correction: You said "prior to ios 14", I got out my old iphone 8 plus that's on ios 14.5.1 and it can rotate.
More corrections: Face id works fine if you hold your phone sideways so that is not the reason it was removed. (atleast on newer devices) If it does not work on older devices it's due to incompetence since its not hard to rotate the face it scans or just ignore rotation altogether.

In iPhone 7 Plus and 8 plus models as long as you don’t add widgets you would still be able to rotate the Home Screen in landscape mode. I think Apple could still put that feature to today’s iPhones as well. Square widgets won’t be a problem but the rectangle widgets would cause confusion to layout on the landscape mode. So if customers add rectangular widgets to the Home Screen it would disable landscape mode when place the phone horizontally.

IPadOS has already solved this, though iPads do have larger screens anyways which makes rotating widgets easier.
The solution is quite simple, remember what the user has the horizontal and vertical layout set as, rather than using the vertical layout to determine the horizontal one.
When I first set up widgets on my iPad and rotated it, some of the widgets moved when put in horizontal. Then I just moved the widgets back to where I wanted them in horizontal mode. Now, whenever I rotate my iPad between vertical and horizontal, it rotates more seamlessly.
