Andrew Scott, Back way before the internet guide phenomenon and youtube back in gen 2 we were introduced to shinies. I ran into one before the Red Gyarados and though my game had glitched. You do the math there. It was not a Shuckle but rather a Spinarak. Sad times, very sad times.
How about Meganium? Initially overshadowed by Cyndaquil and Totodile's evolutions, I grew to adore and cheer for Meganium after TeamFourStar ended up choosing Chikorita in their Soulsilver Nuzlocke back around 2016. What was initially the butt of the joke and a Pokemon that they initially wished died, slowly but surely became the adored mascot and immovable object of the team.
I've been noticing for the past few generations how everyone jumped on the hating bandwagon when the Water starter was first introduced, for some reason. I mean, look at all we got: Unova starters were introduced, Oshawott was hated upon immediately. Kalos starters were introduced, Froakie was easily the least popular. Alola starters were introduced, everyone started bashing on Popplio. I don't even get the initial hatred for these guys. Apparently, it's because they look silly compared to the other ones? That makes no sense when you look at Oshawott, since that looks pretty cute. I'm glad it has turned around because of their evolutions, but it kind of makes me worry that the next Water starter will get immediate hate too.

I've always loved Bidoof since the moment it came out. It's just so fluffy and cute! It can also be fairly strong, because I've beaten the Elite Four with its evolved form. I have my own stuffed animal of it someone made for me by crocheting.
I always thought how great it was for me to discover how Magikarp evolved into godslayer Gyarados when i was a kid. It changed how i aproach every pokemon now, thinking that there can be a way to unlock a certain potential in every single one of them. It was a great learning mechanism.

It hits a like a bunch of horses (Mudsdale) with a sumo wrestler (Snorlax) plus a powerful ninja (Greninja). It’s as tanky as Snorlax and super strong. I used one when NEBBIE FAILED ME IN THE LEAGE, and it WRECKED. I was wrong to replace it with STUPID NEBBIE. Since then, I loved it, and many people started understanding it. It may be a donkey, BUT IT IS AWESOME AND WRECKS, SO DONT UNDER ESTIMATE IT

Personally I love Bidoof for its roll and the side story about it (Bidoof's Wish) in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky. Also, Popplio was my choice in Pokémon SM and in USUM both, and a lot of my friends also really liked Popplio.

I think that was a mistake in the narration considering it says "sea lion" in the script. You'd assume you'd know that I know it's a sea lion considering I call it a "lion" in this video as well.
The design probably takes inspiration from both- after all, if it was just a sea lion or a seal without being its own thing, then it wouldn't be a Pokemon. No Pokemon is just one animal, they're always a combination of design elements. Like, even Seel- it's not just based on a real life seal, but also a water spout in its shape, plus it has a horn etc. To say a Pokemon is just an animal isn't quite right, and misses its design.
You know, and this is just my perspective, I feel like not too many people actually like Zorua. You never really hear too much about Zorua (except from me) so I feel like Zorua is underloved Edit 4 years later: Well this aged poorly, because lots of people love it with Hisuian Zorua existing

Popplio was the first pokemon i ever trained to lvl 100, since i got it as a lv1 baby from a wonder trade at the beginning of my journey. (My first pokemon game was in alola) I didn't have a water type on my team and because i (despite having it be my first game) was already a huge pokemon fan, knowing each pokemons evolutionary line, i knew that it would evolve into a fairy type, which i also had use for. Because i got it from a trade, it levelled up quickly and soon became my strongest pokemon. Imagine if the person who traded that popplio to me would've known that his little baby in a group of lots of other popplios, one that he thought was just as useless as the others, would become such a beast.
I wasn't disappointed in Alolan Dugtrio. My first response to it was "Fancy hair!" Also, as the Magikarp song pointed out: There's lots of powerful Pokémon, but only Magikarp has managed to turn weakness into an art form.

Before my name on here was King Magikarp no lie I love Magikarp that much ^^
Popplio was the first pokemon i ever trained to lvl 100, since i got it as a lv1 baby from a wonder trade at the beginning of my journey. (My first pokemon game was in alola) I didn't have a water type on my team and because i (despite having it be my first game) was already a huge pokemon fan, knowing each pokemons evolutionary line, i knew that it would evolve into a fairy type, which i also had use for. Because i got it from a trade, it levelled up quickly and soon became my strongest pokemon. Imagine if the person who traded that popplio to me would've known that his little baby in a group of lots of other popplios, one that he thought was just as useless as the others, would become such a beast.
