I love his style. So kind. Although I've transitioned from Keto (started Feb 2017) to Carnivore, I still tell people to watch Dr. Westman to start eating low carb. I may go back more Keto at some point but I've been doing Carnivore for almost a year and it's working for me.

Not because of Dr Boz, but because I want to occasionally - several days week - be in high ketosis for therapeutic reasons. I’m 68 and want to do everything possible to ward off dementia. The days I’m in high ketosis, I love the energy and the happy, patient mood. I still work full time as a behavior therapist with little fellows with autism. - Very physically and mentally demanding job. I’ve never had this much energy before. I use my keto mojo daily.
If u really want to ward off dementia, pls consider hrt esp if you had brain fog during menopause. I think that is a warning sign of things to come. I am on hrt for this very reason.
You're might want to check out a recent well done study that showed going from keto to adding carbs (purposely cycling, or even just accidentally) can actually cause insulin resistance. This appears to be because as the body becomes fat adapted, and glucose is suddenly introduced, the body over-responds, causing insulin resistance. Apparently, your body needs to become glucose-adapted just as it must adapt to properly burn fat. This has made me rethink the idea of keto cycling. It seems to 'confuse' the body. The study wasn't longitudinal or observational, as keto studies related to heart disease tend to be. You can look it up but it's a tough read: A University of Bath study "A Ketogenic Diet reduces friendly gut bacteria and raises cholesterol levels". The conclusion was that a keto diet could lead to greater risk for t2 diabetes, heart attack and stroke.
I agree with Dr. Westman - forget the ketone and glucose measuring devices and pain in the neck testing - for what? just follow the low carb daily routine with a good dose of protein and fat foods in a daily diet of 2 meals - fasting after dark - and I think you're on a winning train of improved levels of insulin and weight loss.
Very interesting. Basically validated the science behind Dr. Boz methodology but suggesting a more relaxed approach. The measurement help ME - but I can see where others would be off put by the continual finger pricking. Her time of day guidelines seem sound - but as you stated - not essential for success. Nuance is key here -- Extreme change requires extreme change -- and moderate change can be more relaxed. Rapid change requires rapid and severe changes. My original weight loss was 325 pounds over about a year -- then two years of maintenance. Now I'm shooting for 40 pounds over the course of 16 months -- to reach my ultimate goal. The approach for this second phase is much more gentle - but my health is no longer in such peril so I can afford to be slower and more gentle.
Finding one's own truths and learning to hear what the body is telling you, has made this journey for me both enjoyable and rewarding. Doctors Westman and Boz have both helped me so much to shape this journey and I am so grateful for giving me this roadmap. 71 years and going strong on keto since 2000. Blessings to you both.
All I did was lower carbs to under 50 a day and lost 25 # . Kept it off now for over a year. I really didn’t have to make it more complicated than that.
I appreciate her knowledge and teaching abilities. This snippet doesn’t capture the scope of her work at all. She helps many heal from metabolic disease. If it’s not for you, fine. The comments attacking her are unnecessary, to say the least.
I’ve been doing carnivore for two years then 2 months ago I started tracking my Dr Boz ratio for being in ketosis and it’s helped my menstrual migraines enormously! Also loosing the last few lbs. Low carb was helpful but higher ketones has been incredibly effective. The Metabolic Mind channel has been helpful too.
I enjoy that the data is recorded, not for proof to self, but to finally set a precedent instead of leading with excuses coming from the id all day. We need to remove the air of crippling stagnation n' directionless speculation. Proactivity is key, documentation of the journey will calm the doubters
Good idea. Also, record your observations of your body. Many report no joint pain, no dry eye, no brain fog, no carb cravings, and weight loss. These are real benefits that folks take medicines to try to improve. You get them with low carb eating. ❤
Very well said. I'd like to know and verify what my insulin/glucose/ketone levels are. I expect to measure it a lot in the early parts of the diet, then perhaps quarterly after I settle in. I'd be nice to have years of data as time goes on.
I am on day four of the current keto challenge and my blood glucose was 76 and my ketones are 1.3 today. those are the best numbers I’ve had in months since I’ve plateaued almost a year ago ! Thank you, Dr. Westman❤
@@Cervin_Suisse Not my 1st time, went Keto in Nov 2020 and lost 80 lbs then went Carnivore in Jan '22 to break a plateau and decided I ought to go back to Keto 101 again.
I didn't measure anything when I went low carb. I did keep a food diary so that if it hadn't worked well I would be able to assess what I had been eating and change things if I needed to. After reading lots of comments of people who told their own experience I decided to do it for 3 months to see if I could remit my diabetes. If when I had the next blood test it was not remitted I would have got a simple blood glucose monitor. Thankfully I was successful. Next month will be my 3 year anniversary of being low carb, and since earlier this year I have been eating a lot more meat.
I love Dr. Westman’s dialogue, whether in agreement or not, he always remains respectful. He is able to cut the “red tape” and give you the “bare bones”approach to topics, while still delivering the substance and thrust of the message and its solution. He portrays as being a honest and kind person, we need more people like him.
You were the first person who introduced me to keto. I’ve been watching you since 2019. According to Dr Ben Bikman, women become insulin resistant in peri menopause. I wish I’d known that, I would have started low carb much earlier. The trouble with hormonal changes is tiredness, and of course we all reach for carbs ( big mistake) for instant energy and end up with more belly fat than we want. Keto is a lifestyle. It works as long as you keep doing it. Eating high fat is also a big mistake. How can you burn off your own fat if you keep eating fat. Fat (cheese, yogurt, dairy) is tasty and satiating and works at the beginning but ease off over time.
Trying to do the Dr. Boz ratio has stressed me unbelievably. If I can just follow the protocol of Keto or Carnivore, the healing should be taking place in my body! Plus I have Hashimotos to deal with which makes my metabolism different from others.

I used the DBR to guide me through therapeutic ketosis in conjuction with chemotherapy. Although I was adhering to Seyfried's protocol, my meter did not give GKI data. I am currently cancer free.
Getting a keto mogo was the best tool for me, it let me fine-tune the N=1 in my case. Me and My wife needed to do stuff a little differently, things that spiked her BG did not always affect me in the same way
Each person is different for a number of reasons including different hormones, stress, sleep quality etc. It's amazing what my husband can eat, stay thin, and keep his blood sugar low. I look at something 😂 food wise and my blood sugar rises.

Also, I have to have way less dairy than my wife. o my BG keeps going up from the 90's to 115-125, as soon as I cut out the dary and eat more butter/animal fat it drops right back down, but I am also stressing out about work dealing that could also be the problem. have a tool let us know what is triggering that stuff so we can course correct instead of waiting weeks to months to observe a change
@@crashbandit9949have you tried a CGM? Dexcom now has an over the counter one called Stelo. I've tried it and noticed my numbers get high as I start my day at work and then go down from there. Then seems to spike at night due to Dawn Phenomenon. It's also nice to see rises and falls from eating.
I stopped watching Dr. Boz because of all the measurements and having to buy the meters. I have been very successful on Keto just staying low on carbs.
I ate a sirloin steak, 4 eggs and a large salad in a 4 hr window every day and lost weight fast. Your not hungry in ketosis. I do recommend the keto mojo meter. You don't have to be in ketosis to lose fat but you lose weight faster when you are and the meter is nice to know when you are, when you aren't and to make sure you don't go too far although that wasn't really a problem for me. A little fruit bounced me right out of ketosis.
She came up with the Dr Boz ratio while she was working with her mom who had cancer. Helped keeping her mom's ketones higher to help fight the cancer. And it seemed to have worked fairly well....for a time.
The years her mother was on keto, prolonged her life and helped her live a better life, however those few years didn’t reverse a lifetime of the standard American diet. AND she’s not talking about the GKI, she has created her own formula which is different, it’s a derivative but not the GKI.
I like the fun of getting some measurements that I can look at. I think there are other people like me one of the variables in my glucose control is that cortisol is a factor in controlling diabetes so understanding the variability of not just sugar

FYI, I have been calculating the Dr. Boz ratio, because I'm in my 60's, in menopause, and highly insulin resistant. I need to calc and know when I've reached a state of autophagy. Intermittent Fasting isn't helping me to lose weight in any significant way anymore. The only thing that moves the needle is extended fasting of a few days.
My experience gathered from Dr. Fung and many TH-camr’s is that visceral fat is the biggest enemy as demonstrated by bariatric surgery which eliminates it by reducing this fat. Low carb and eating protein with each higher carb meal has helped the spikes. My diabetes, although a bit controversial, was brought on by untreated sleep apnea, which is now controlled with a CPAP.
This comes from her clinical experience. People do great on kept for a period of time. Then they stall… moving the eating window earlier moves the needle again.
I can think of 1 thing that's gained by measuring, be it the "Dr Boz Ratio" or some other measurement. That 1 thing is reassurance. People are putting their faith in the low carb diet, often for health reasons. We are often doing this against medical advice. The only dietician I've come across at our local hospital is telling the heart and diabetes patients that 1/4 of the plate of food should be starches, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc. Who do you think my Dr tells me I should listen to? We are going against that professional advice, so some way to measure improvement, to prove to ourselves that what we are doing is working is essential. Otherwise, how long until the decision is made to eat a proper diet as recommended by our health professionals rather than following an influencer on youtube?
Good point, but I hope you can feel better on very low carb program. So many report very positive benefits like no joint pain, no dry eye, feel better all over, feel more positive, sharp decrease in carb cravings, and lose weight. All of these observations are very positive signs of diet success. I’m staying with keto. I hope you will, too.
@@karenbuchert3377 I do feel better. But placebos can make you think you are better as well, when in reality that effect is all in the mind. There's something reassuring about seeing a measured number drop or increase as the case may be. You cant argue with the results when the numbers prove its happening.
I like this conversation. I agree, measuring improves results. I use measuring exercises when training people. I just started implementing some health changes from keto. I’ve lost 2.5 inches on my waist in 3 weeks. It’s a transition and I’m learning as I go. My goal is 1/2 my height, which is 35. Already 1/2 way to my goal! BP is down to normal range. Chronic sinus disease is not bothering me. Another goal was to drop 35 1bs, I’m down 11. I’m walking 3-4 miles a day. Best of luck to both of you!
@@Mantraflip weight and waist measurement are another couple of very good examples. Anyone can do it, you don't need a Dr to measure those. You just can't deny what those numbers are saying, nor can you be imagining it. Personally I find them reassuring that I'm headed in the right direction. Whereas in also seeing huge improvements in my triglycerides and HDL numbers, which on its own is reassuring. But unfortunately I also know that those improvements have been at the expense of also getting high LDL. Which thanks to the information we get from our Dr's is worrying. So I need all the positive reinforcement I can get from other measurements, like your suggested waist and weight. Thank you.
Dr. Westman, Professor Tim Noakes is doing some fabulous studies on fat as fuel for professional atheletes. No carbs, no sugars, lower protein. He is 70-80% fats and 20-30 percent proteins. His studies are showing under 2 hour 26.2 mile marathon runners can run on fat as fuel when being fully keto adapted and meeting the highest degree of athleticism. Just off memory which is poor to communicate with but I believe I heard him state that the liver can convert 1.9 grams of fat into glucose per minute which would be about 17 calories times 60 minutes is 1026 calories per hour. He is the profession that originally wrote the carb loading "bible" for runners in the 70's and has written 30 books by now. Might be worth looking at his studies, pretty profound? He was a professional marathon runner and got diabetes by his 50's. He has been sued by big pharma and big food for going against their convention and won a 7 year battle completely exhonorated of all charges in 2022. Well worth some investigation. I tried the Atkins diet years ago. I did not last very long on it. I don't think that I can do a keto. I would quit after a while. I want a diet that is not a lot of carbs. However, on occasion (maybe once a week - pancakes.) I am trying einkorn flour. It has less carbs for my pancakes. I don't add sugar to my pancake mix. I want to start making bread with it. I need something to help me stay the course. I used to eat a bag of chips in a day. I got that stopped. I am to the point with all the stuff added to food to read the labels. I'm sticking to my way of eating. I am Carnivore but I do have an occasional bite of peanut butter. It is clean with just one ingredient, peanuts. I do drain that oil out yuck. For the past year I have been stuck at my weight. Originally I lost nearly 100 lb and I got down at 230. But I have gained 30 lb and I cannot get rid of it. In the beginning I was Keto. My blood pressure was great. 120 is over 70s. No medication. That's coming from 170s / 100s. But for the past 6 months, my blood pressure has been up. I've been stressed my entire life so I don't know. 3 years keto of that 2 years carnivore. I do not drink sodas next episode of water. But I just want to let you know that I will always watch you and take your advice over anybody else. Bart k. Is great but hard to watch. Boz likes her numbers. Berry, Cywes, Chaffee and Baker are filled with great information but little preachy. I have pretty much dumped all the other influencers that only post for views. Keep up the good work. I gave you my history in hopes that maybe a little bit of help in the next video to address these issues. I have contemplated going back there just Keto, but with the cost of food keto sides cost just as much as another pound of meat. No pork except for the bacon and about once every 6 months I get pork belly. I eat a lot of cheap beef. Water and soda water. O and about once a month when I crave a sweet, I take a bite of peanut butter. I probably should throw away that jar I got, it's about 6 months old. It's that small jar from Aldi's. Ya, I will toss it out tomorrow and get a fresh one 🤣 but no I guess I'm not carnivore. But why in the hell do you eat fruit ❓🤔 Most of the nutrition in fruit is locked up in the fiber. All you get is a super boost of sugar and the worst kind, fructose, the liver killer. If you don't believe me look it up.
I think it depends on the goals that somebody has with a ketogenic diet. If it's about weight loss and reversing insulin resistance, then it's probably not needed to measure and to push ketones high, e.g., with several techniques that Dr Boz teaches. When it comes to manage autoimmune diseases and/or cancer, ketone levels may be important because ketones have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. W.r.t. cancer, see, e.g., the science and therapy design done by Dr. Thomas Seyfried and his team. Dr. Seyfried mentioned to keep the GKI below some level to get a therapeutic effect w.r.t. cancer in combination with the other components of his therapy. That requires measuring glucose and ketones because the GKI is computed from those two values.
I like your approach, I started a cgm 1 month ago. At first after meals my glucose would quickly peak to 120 or more. I would have to go for walks after meals to keep my glucoses from going over 140. I started reducing my carbs to 100 a day, and increased regular exercise besides any extra exercise walks. I lost about 8lbs and also started with a salads and or vegetables at the first of the meals. After a month of this now as long as I stay on a low carb high protein diet my glucose no longer spikes to 120 after meals. I wonder if everyone had a cgm and kept their glucose under 140 they would lose weight as well??
Doc Eric, Dr Boz is extremely TRANSPARENT about her protocol for reducing insulin resistance and talks about it and includes real life examples from her health coaches, to scientific explanations of metabolic pathways and willing patients. Maybe not your style but you keep eluding to “your style” but leave it to us to fully engage with you and your clinic instead of putting out your protocol on the web to scrutiny. Can you please put together 30 or so clients that have benefited from your protocol and go into it in detail in some videos like you are requesting Dr Boz as a template for her? I can’t criticize Dr Boz cuz she puts it all out there every day, I listen and adjust my protocol for myself based on her exhaustive explanation of her protocol. I know you are very self confident and believe your protocol is best? Prove it. All due respect.
Information is power, especially REAL info about yourself…your metabolism! Measured blood sugar and ketones works for me, I am amazed at my blood sugar variance, what it really does vs my expectations. CGM is a great tool, wish they had one for ketones! A1c now 5.3, lost 70+ lbs and kept it off for 8+ years, my fasting insulin is my project, it is very stubborn, still hovers around 10!
I can tell you that through trial and error. Eating high fat diet in the beginning helps you get into ketosis quick. The more fat I eat the more weight I loose.
Having watched these bits of Dr Boz's presentation I am so glad I have never found them alone (without Dr Westman's interpretation). That bit on type 1 at the start was frightening.
I don't dislike her, but I find her a poor communicator. Many sentences she says don't make any sense at all, but she just barrels onward as if she has no idea that she didn't actually convey the information that she meant to.

Higher my ketones, better my mood 👍, so yes for me it is very important 😊, I am more or less at my ideal weight so I do keto for the other reasons, mainly my (ex) life long depression.
I did intense fasting for a year and measured with my keto mojo. Never experienced a better more or more clarity. I’d do water fasts and feel worse. It doesn’t have that effect for everyone. Perhaps it’s my hypothyroidism, it fasting just wrecks my body, mind and mood. It may not be healthy for people thyroid issues. Dr Elizabeth Bright doesn’t suggest it for healing hormones and thyroid. As long as I stick with high fat carnivore and high dose iodine treatments, I continue to improve. No fasting needed.
I was following a keto diet for 2.5 months. After the 2.5 months, I lost 9 pounds,my hdl went up from 5 points and my glucose went up 4 points. My Dr was concerned. He looked at me like a deer in headlights when I told him I was following a keto diet, as if he didn't believe me. I brought to his attention that I lost some weight. He just replied 'well that's strange those numbers up'. Then told me diet will not affect cholesterol numbers because the liver is responsible for making cholesterol. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
I would concur on this with you that it doesn't need to be so rigid or structured, and not so picky, with a Caveate. Let me explain, with some background first. The reason I believe she has you check the "boz" ratio is because the majority of people at some point get to a stall (mine has been for a year) and even though I never looked at "Net Carbs" I always looked at total carbs, I wasn't losing anymore, and I still have BMI wise another almost 100lbs to lose as a 5'8 male who already lost 85lbs. Actually in the last few months I gained back almost 20lbs. I found her because I had been trying to understand Ketosis, and metabolic health as well as causes of issues like mine, and what I found was that if my glucose levels are still over 100 on average, and I am at a stall in my weightloss it is likely that I am not in ketosis, or are in Ketosis for less time. Seeing this number has helped me find foods that may seem okay for most people but that spike my indivdual glucose levels. [I am not checking Ketones, mostly because I have a CGM (wish it did both) and I am not going to prick my fingers all the time when I am typing a lot for work.] Just half of her equation has helped me find those issues. To get back to why she is picky on getting data (eating time and the Boz Ratio), I think it is because most of us will stall, and the data, if we are already doing it from the begining is easy to keep doing than to start when we were already in the middle of things, and frustrated at things not working any more. Example: Some Artifical sweetners may affect each of us differently, and we may think, allulose is the one for me, or stevia, or munk fruit, or erythritol, but what may affect one persons glucose level may not affect someone else's the same, and I can see how my glucose level is affected by the type of meats I eat, and the types of veggies I eat. It may not be perfect since I am not doing both Glucose and Ketone measuring, but it has helped me lose the weight I gained and get out of the stall I was in. This is no way a detractor to your way, her way, or any otherway, but may help you or others understand why Dr. Boz's method seems so strict or excessive.
Hi Doctor W. How about the latest research on Mental Health and Keto?? I'm loving what Dr Chris Palmer is doing. As well as Dr. Bret Scher in Metabolic Mind with the Baszucki group. Dr. W have you arrived at an opinion concerning your patients Mental health? Maybe they seemed happier because they were getting healthier or does it have to do with Ketones affecting their Brain or maybe they are mental health sufferers like the general unhealthy population?
While I agree that it is not mandatory to measure to succeed, for me, I need to know what is affecting my body, so I do a lot of measuring and journaling of everything that could be influencing how I feel physically, cognitively and emotionally. Do I expect to do this for the rest of my life? No! However, I do think that I may have to do it occasionally if I fall below a threshold of comfort that I have learned to expect from myself. I haven’t reached that comfort threshold yet, so I carry on the best I can without obsessing. I observe, analyze and respond - usually in the morning upon awakening, then simply go through the day, occasionally making a note on what I have done, my environment, what I ate…. These notes take no more than a couple of minutes a few times per day. It helps me see trends I would never have known existed. Now, that’s me. I spent a good deal of my early adulthood in research and loved it. Now I am the subject of my own research - to better my health and give me a long and fruitful life.
Hi, I hear about times to eat, but I work night shifts and eat at 6pm for a 10pm - 6am night shift. Then I sleep through the day. Does this make a difference?
I completely agree. Dr Boz makes it far too complicated. The only videos I like of her are the first ones when she tells her story of how she discovered keto . She actually closed her practice for one year before reopening as a keto clinic ! But can we actually become insulin sensitive again. I’m skinny fat and pre diabetic. I lost 20 lbs and eat low carb. How long until I’m insulin sensitive again and won’t have a huge spike if I were to eat a high carb treat? I don’t want to go back to my old ways but I don’t like being insulin resistant and want to know that I will heal if that makes sense.
Thank you very much for clarifying some issues. Sometimes, it feels too much, especially when listening to some of Dr. B's videos. I prefer the pressure-free lifestyle I lead instead of the burden of drinking this oil, doing that measurement, eating sardines until you gag, etc.
I respect Dr Boz, but I prefer Dr Westman. I like his calm professionalism vs a high pressure influencer, also when I saw her chomping on blocks of butter to get her ketones up, I felt that was just a bit over the top 😮
There is one major flaw in the Dr. Boz ratio theory. The more body fat and visceral fat that you burn will also keep your ketones lower. It is well known now that when you lose or burn visceral fat your overall health improves, without question, this cannot be disputed. And when you are losing subcutaneous fat as well and you get into a really good state of homeostasis, then your body will run efficiently and all your numbers will fluctuate. EG., your blood glucose will fluctuate to how much you need for energy on it's own, and so will your insulin. But also so will your ketones as they are supposed to. So your ketones will not be as high as when you start Keto/Carnivore or just plain eating a healthy diet. So don't get to hung up on the numbers, in particular the ketones, your body will run very efficiently if you give the right fuel, it knows what it's doing.
For some of us trying to reverse coronary artery disease, plus T2 diabetes, and having a lot of trouble even 20g carbs or less, even more carnivorish, and still not able to get bg under 100 or ever be in ketosis, I'm not sure what we have to do, or if it's truly possible to reverse it at all. For me, measuring ketones was only discouraging, because even fasting, I never get into ketosis or if I do it's barely.
Doc I've been carnivore since may 2023 and my type 2 diabetes seemingly gone, I've messed up many times and consumed a sandwich or soup.. but recently when I've had a sub... and something even with sugar.. my blood glucose did not spike the way it used to this time last year... I don't know if my type 2 is completely gone or not...don't want to go back to eating processed foods & donuts either... my question though is on MCT oil. I was taking about a tblspn per day and I'm not sure if it was beneficial or not. Do you recommend it? I'm out n thinking I might get more of it
It's my understanding that Adapt Your Life doesn't give people meal plans because they want you to determine your own hunger, and eat accordingly. They do, however, offer some recipes with their courses; there's also a "End Your Carb Confusion: the cookbook" if you need more recipes.

63 y young female couch potato on carnivore-ish here. I’m weighing myself AT THE SAME TIME in the morning. If I’ve put on weight from the food i ate two days before, i go back to strict carnivore. If not, i continue with meat based. I do try to add one new food at a time. I also keep a spreadsheet so that I’m tracking the weight. No measuring anything except weight. 😂 lost 8kg since start of June ‘24. And gained more stamina.
My problem is I was pre diabetic, lost 22 lbs and I’m 5’4” and weigh 119. I ate twice a day. Lower carb. It was simple. BUT my bg is still off. If I eat more than a tiny amount of carbs my response is delayed. And my morning bg is between 102 to 112. It’s SO frustrating cuz I love carbs. It stays mostly good in the daytime.
I'm carnivore and I'm struggling with coffee creamer. The creamer that I absolutely Love has seed oil and natural flavor low sugar. I don't understand how this creamer would cause trouble health wise if 85-90% of the time I eat is great. This creamer doesn't even spike my blood sugar and I'm not diabetic. I don't like the feeling of being deprived of something, because the more I don't let myself have it. The more I want it. I just wanted to get opinions before I make a decision to use it again. For context. I'm 52, female, 4'11" 100 lbs. Even though I'm carnivore I had to add some things back in because I was losing too much weight.

Bart Kay claims that "insulin resistance" is a construct not a condition because the cell will naturally and as matter of necessity will prevent the absorption of more glucose once the maximum necessary glucose is already accieved. This is basically the Randall cycle as I understand it. Please address what Bart Kay has presented in regards to insulin resistance and the Randall cycle and the "diagnosis" of insulin resistance. In other words insulin resistance is exactly what the system is required to do to prevent intracellular damage to the organelles from toxic levels of glucose intracellularlly. Yes there will be toxic glucose in the blood stream but the blood constituents are sacrificed to protect the cellular organelles because they can be replaced easier and quicker. I have much love and respect for Dr. Boz, Dr Westman, and Bart Kay even though Mr Bart Kay has relegated me to dusters on more than one occasion. Well maybe it was Ted but you know what I mean.
There is just one glitch... High blood glucose level is very toxic for all organs. The proof ? Amputation and blindness. In which way does it help that the cells refuse to absorb more sugar ?

I’m an endurance athlete and a CrossFit athlete and carnivore for a year and half . Have done several marathons carnivore .. been carnivore for a year and half and I’ve never felt better .. the lie is that you need carbs . I’ve never been stronger either .. meat is the way !
Is that true that muscle cells and the brain can use glucose without insulin ? Because people with type1 diabetes just don't drop dead or fall into a coma before treated with insulin. Also according to sports physiology, insulin secretion stops when we exercise. If that is true then obviously insulin's function is only blood glucose regulation and fat storage.

I too am "sus" about eating as early as possible. I think what Dr Boz means (guessing) is that if glucose / insulin is high already in the morning, then "surf the wave" and then benefit from the rest of the day being lower. Whereas eating later will mean a 2nd or even 3rd spike. However, borrowing from the Paleo philosophy - our DNA is from caveman - the question is, will caveman have big meal in the morning? No refrigerators, no shopping malls. Raw meat overnight would go bad. So caveman cannot eat till they go hunt or gather eggs. So then the earliest they can eat is lunch, or more likely, late afternoon. Don't forget having to gather wood for fire. If this theory holds, then the glucose spike in the morning, is precisely to provide energy to go hunting! That glucose may be coming from gluconeogenesis - glucose released from stored fat or protein, to get caveman going. All speculation of course, but seems logical to me.
One thing that bothers me about ketone glucose ratios is the mixed units. Dr. Boz used ketone values in mmol/ltr but glucose values in mg/dl. Urine strips locally indicate ketones in mg/dl, unlike her blood monitor which uses mmol/l. I actually sat down and figured how much a mole of the primary ketone weighed: 102g. So an easy conversion is divide mg/dl values by 10. But I still don’t know if urine values are consistent with blood values. Google is hopelessly misleading.
@@paulhailey2537 I do that and produce ketones easily. At target weight after 3 months. But sometimes the urine strips show 80 mgs/dl. That seems high. I’ve gone to around 10-15g carbs to keep it around 40.
When I was in my early 20's I went from 165 to over 210 after my job became sedentary. In those day it was the Atkin's Diet that I turned to and lost all the weight in about 4 months, ending up just under 160. I kept my weight below 175 for the next 50 years by sticking with Atkin's and his recommendations. Then a couple years ago I had an accident that laid me up and damaged the 17 year old alter ego who lives in my mind, and I went from 175 up to presently 226. I have started back on the under 20 grams carbs regime again, but at 77 (almost 78) it is hard...and Bidenomics isn't helping.
Still question advice of Dr B re: sarcopenia etc. on her more "advanced" level (once fat adapted) for weekly 72 hr fasting for someone aged mid 70s, with persistent Iron Deficiency.
Yes, that’s correct. Dr Isabella Cooper did a keto study where they took ketone and glucose levels 4xs a day and she said from 4-6pm was the most accurate time to get a measurement. Saw her on the Metabolic Mind channel.
Because if you have insulin resistance, your dawn effect is really whacked out. I have insulin resistance, my husband does not. His dawn effect is a blip, mine is a mountain. I still have work to do.

After a lifetime of obsessing about food, I find Carnivore the best way of eating, with absolutely NO measuring what so ever. I find it simplicity itself. Eating until satisfied. So long as I include enough fat I don’t tend to over eat and then I eat again when I am hungry.
A lot of people have found success with carnivore (according to the internet 😂) and I respect that. But I love me some low-carb veggies 🍃🍀and don't want to go without.

So I'm a 65 year old type 1 on a incelin pump " incelin dependent " . I've been doing this way of eating for 5 months am I safe eating more protein, fat, and no carbs.
Since March this year have type 2 They did 2 test and it was 7.0 both times fasting . I love his style. So kind. Although I've transitioned from Keto (started Feb 2017) to Carnivore, I still tell people to watch Dr. Westman to start eating low carb. I may go back more Keto at some point but I've been doing Carnivore for almost a year and it's working for me.

Not because of Dr Boz, but because I want to occasionally - several days week - be in high ketosis for therapeutic reasons. I’m 68 and want to do everything possible to ward off dementia. The days I’m in high ketosis, I love the energy and the happy, patient mood. I still work full time as a behavior therapist with little fellows with autism. - Very physically and mentally demanding job. I’ve never had this much energy before. I use my keto mojo daily.

If u really want to ward off dementia, pls consider hrt esp if you had brain fog during menopause. I think that is a warning sign of things to come. I am on hrt for this very reason.
You're might want to check out a recent well done study that showed going from keto to adding carbs (purposely cycling, or even just accidentally) can actually cause insulin resistance. This appears to be because as the body becomes fat adapted, and glucose is suddenly introduced, the body over-responds, causing insulin resistance. Apparently, your body needs to become glucose-adapted just as it must adapt to properly burn fat. This has made me rethink the idea of keto cycling. It seems to 'confuse' the body.
The study wasn't longitudinal or observational, as keto studies related to heart disease tend to be. You can look it up but it's a tough read:
A University of Bath study "A Ketogenic Diet reduces friendly gut bacteria and raises cholesterol levels". The conclusion was that a keto diet could lead to greater risk for t2 diabetes, heart attack and stroke.

I agree with Dr. Westman - forget the ketone and glucose measuring devices and pain in the neck testing - for what? just follow the low carb daily routine with a good dose of protein and fat foods in a daily diet of 2 meals - fasting after dark - and I think you're on a winning train of improved levels of insulin and weight loss.
Very interesting. Basically validated the science behind Dr. Boz methodology but suggesting a more relaxed approach. The measurement help ME - but I can see where others would be off put by the continual finger pricking. Her time of day guidelines seem sound - but as you stated - not essential for success. Nuance is key here -- Extreme change requires extreme change -- and moderate change can be more relaxed. Rapid change requires rapid and severe changes. My original weight loss was 325 pounds over about a year -- then two years of maintenance. Now I'm shooting for 40 pounds over the course of 16 months -- to reach my ultimate goal. The approach for this second phase is much more gentle - but my health is no longer in such peril so I can afford to be slower and more gentle.

All I did was lower carbs to under 50 a day and lost 25 # . Kept it off now for over a year. I really didn’t have to make it more complicated than that.

I’ve been doing carnivore for two years then 2 months ago I started tracking my Dr Boz ratio for being in ketosis and it’s helped my menstrual migraines enormously! Also loosing the last few lbs. Low carb was helpful but higher ketones has been incredibly effective. The Metabolic Mind channel has been helpful too.

Good idea. Also, record your observations of your body. Many report no joint pain, no dry eye, no brain fog, no carb cravings, and weight loss. These are real benefits that folks take medicines to try to improve. You get them with low carb eating. ❤
Very well said. I'd like to know and verify what my insulin/glucose/ketone levels are. I expect to measure it a lot in the early parts of the diet, then perhaps quarterly after I settle in. I'd be nice to have years of data as time goes on.

I didn't measure anything when I went low carb. I did keep a food diary so that if it hadn't worked well I would be able to assess what I had been eating and change things if I needed to. After reading lots of comments of people who told their own experience I decided to do it for 3 months to see if I could remit my diabetes. If when I had the next blood test it was not remitted I would have got a simple blood glucose monitor. Thankfully I was successful. Next month will be my 3 year anniversary of being low carb, and since earlier this year I have been eating a lot more meat.
I love Dr. Westman’s dialogue, whether in agreement or not, he always remains respectful. He is able to cut the “red tape” and give you the “bare bones”approach to topics, while still delivering the substance and thrust of the message and its solution. He portrays as being a honest and kind person, we need more people like him.
You were the first person who introduced me to keto. I’ve been watching you since 2019. According to Dr Ben Bikman, women become insulin resistant in peri menopause. I wish I’d known that, I would have started low carb much earlier. The trouble with hormonal changes is tiredness, and of course we all reach for carbs ( big mistake) for instant energy and end up with more belly fat than we want. Keto is a lifestyle. It works as long as you keep doing it. Eating high fat is also a big mistake. How can you burn off your own fat if you keep eating fat. Fat (cheese, yogurt, dairy) is tasty and satiating and works at the beginning but ease off over time.
Trying to do the Dr. Boz ratio has stressed me unbelievably. If I can just follow the protocol of Keto or Carnivore, the healing should be taking place in my body! Plus I have Hashimotos to deal with which makes my metabolism different from others.

I used the DBR to guide me through therapeutic ketosis in conjuction with chemotherapy. Although I was adhering to Seyfried's protocol, my meter did not give GKI data. I am currently cancer free.

Getting a keto mogo was the best tool for me, it let me fine-tune the N=1 in my case. Me and My wife needed to do stuff a little differently, things that spiked her BG did not always affect me in the same way
Each person is different for a number of reasons including different hormones, stress, sleep quality etc. It's amazing what my husband can eat, stay thin, and keep his blood sugar low. I look at something 😂 food wise and my blood sugar rises.

Also, I have to have way less dairy than my wife. o my BG keeps going up from the 90's to 115-125, as soon as I cut out the dary and eat more butter/animal fat it drops right back down, but I am also stressing out about work dealing that could also be the problem. have a tool let us know what is triggering that stuff so we can course correct instead of waiting weeks to months to observe a change
@@crashbandit9949have you tried a CGM? Dexcom now has an over the counter one called Stelo. I've tried it and noticed my numbers get high as I start my day at work and then go down from there. Then seems to spike at night due to Dawn Phenomenon. It's also nice to see rises and falls from eating.
I stopped watching Dr. Boz because of all the measurements and having to buy the meters. I have been very successful on Keto just staying low on carbs.
I ate a sirloin steak, 4 eggs and a large salad in a 4 hr window every day and lost weight fast. Your not hungry in ketosis. I do recommend the keto mojo meter. You don't have to be in ketosis to lose fat but you lose weight faster when you are and the meter is nice to know when you are, when you aren't and to make sure you don't go too far although that wasn't really a problem for me. A little fruit bounced me right out of ketosis.
She came up with the Dr Boz ratio while she was working with her mom who had cancer. Helped keeping her mom's ketones higher to help fight the cancer. And it seemed to have worked fairly well....for a time.
She didn't come u with the Dr. Boz ratio. The GKI was referred to and used way before she gave it her own nickname.

I like the fun of getting some measurements that I can look at. I think there are other people like me one of the variables in my glucose control is that cortisol is a factor in controlling diabetes so understanding the variability of not just sugar

All my posts keep disappearing but I implore you to Google two things. One, how do scientists induce insulin resistance in lab rats for studies and two intramyocellular lipids. Please do this.
I found that after becoming fat adapted, I would hit a wall. But when I moved my meal to earlier in the day, that had significant results.
FYI, I have been calculating the Dr. Boz ratio, because I'm in my 60's, in menopause, and highly insulin resistant. I need to calc and know when I've reached a state of autophagy. Intermittent Fasting isn't helping me to lose weight in any significant way anymore. The only thing that moves the needle is extended fasting of a few days.
My experience gathered from Dr. Fung and many TH-camr’s is that visceral fat is the biggest enemy as demonstrated by bariatric surgery which eliminates it by reducing this fat.
Low carb and eating protein with each higher carb meal has helped the spikes.
My diabetes, although a bit controversial, was brought on by untreated sleep apnea, which is now controlled with a CPAP.
This comes from her clinical experience. People do great on kept for a period of time. Then they stall… moving the eating window earlier moves the needle again.

I can think of 1 thing that's gained by measuring, be it the "Dr Boz Ratio" or some other measurement. That 1 thing is reassurance. People are putting their faith in the low carb diet, often for health reasons. We are often doing this against medical advice. The only dietician I've come across at our local hospital is telling the heart and diabetes patients that 1/4 of the plate of food should be starches, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc. Who do you think my Dr tells me I should listen to? We are going against that professional advice, so some way to measure improvement, to prove to ourselves that what we are doing is working is essential. Otherwise, how long until the decision is made to eat a proper diet as recommended by our health professionals rather than following an influencer on youtube?

Good point, but I hope you can feel better on very low carb program. So many report very positive benefits like no joint pain, no dry eye, feel better all over, feel more positive, sharp decrease in carb cravings, and lose weight. All of these observations are very positive signs of diet success. I’m staying with keto. I hope you will, too.
@@karenbuchert3377 I do feel better. But placebos can make you think you are better as well, when in reality that effect is all in the mind. There's something reassuring about seeing a measured number drop or increase as the case may be. You cant argue with the results when the numbers prove its happening.
I like this conversation. I agree, measuring improves results. I use measuring exercises when training people. I just started implementing some health changes from keto. I’ve lost 2.5 inches on my waist in 3 weeks. It’s a transition and I’m learning as I go. My goal is 1/2 my height, which is 35. Already 1/2 way to my goal! BP is down to normal range. Chronic sinus disease is not bothering me. Another goal was to drop 35 1bs, I’m down 11. I’m walking 3-4 miles a day. Best of luck to both of you!
@@Mantraflip weight and waist measurement are another couple of very good examples. Anyone can do it, you don't need a Dr to measure those. You just can't deny what those numbers are saying, nor can you be imagining it. Personally I find them reassuring that I'm headed in the right direction. Whereas in also seeing huge improvements in my triglycerides and HDL numbers, which on its own is reassuring. But unfortunately I also know that those improvements have been at the expense of also getting high LDL. Which thanks to the information we get from our Dr's is worrying. So I need all the positive reinforcement I can get from other measurements, like your suggested waist and weight. Thank you.

Professor Tim Noakes is doing some fabulous studies on fat as fuel for professional atheletes. No carbs, no sugars, lower protein. He is 70-80% fats and 20-30 percent proteins. His studies are showing under 2 hour 26.2 mile marathon runners can run on fat as fuel when being fully keto adapted and meeting the highest degree of athleticism. Just off memory which is poor to communicate with but I believe I heard him state that the liver can convert 1.9 grams of fat into glucose per minute which would be about 17 calories times 60 minutes is 1026 calories per hour. He is the profession that originally wrote the carb loading "bible" for runners in the 70's and has written 30 books by now. Might be worth looking at his studies, pretty profound? He was a professional marathon runner and got diabetes by his 50's. He has been sued by big pharma and big food for going against their convention and won a 7 year battle completely exhonorated of all charges in 2022. Well worth some investigation. Noakes Foundation, he is in Australia.

I tried the Atkins diet years ago. I did not last very long on it. I don't think that I can do a keto. I would quit after a while. I want a diet that is not a lot of carbs. However, on occasion (maybe once a week - pancakes.) I am trying einkorn flour. It has less carbs for my pancakes. I don't add sugar to my pancake mix. I want to start making bread with it. I need something to help me stay the course. I used to eat a bag of chips in a day. I got that stopped. I am to the point with all the stuff added to food to read the labels.

I'm sticking to my way of eating. I am Carnivore but I do have an occasional bite of peanut butter. It is clean with just one ingredient, peanuts. I do drain that oil out yuck.
For the past year I have been stuck at my weight. Originally I lost nearly 100 lb and I got down at 230. But I have gained 30 lb and I cannot get rid of it. In the beginning I was Keto. My blood pressure was great. 120 is over 70s. No medication. That's coming from 170s / 100s. But for the past 6 months, my blood pressure has been up. I've been stressed my entire life so I don't know. 3 years keto of that 2 years carnivore. I do not drink sodas next episode of water.
But I just want to let you know that I will always watch you and take your advice over anybody else. Bart k. Is great but hard to watch. Boz likes her numbers. Berry, Cywes, Chaffee and Baker are filled with great information but little preachy.
I have pretty much dumped all the other influencers that only post for views.
Keep up the good work. I gave you my history in hopes that maybe a little bit of help in the next video to address these issues. No pork except for the bacon and about once every 6 months I get pork belly. I eat a lot of cheap beef. Water and soda water. O and about once a month when I crave a sweet, I take a bite of peanut butter. I probably should throw away that jar I got, it's about 6 months old. It's that small jar from Aldi's. Ya, I will toss it out tomorrow and get a fresh one 🤣 but no I guess I'm not carnivore. But why in the hell do you eat fruit ❓🤔
Most of the nutrition in fruit is locked up in the fiber. All you get is a super boost of sugar and the worst kind, fructose, the liver killer. If you don't believe me look it up.

I think it depends on the goals that somebody has with a ketogenic diet. If it's about weight loss and reversing insulin resistance, then it's probably not needed to measure and to push ketones high, e.g., with several techniques that Dr Boz teaches. When it comes to manage autoimmune diseases and/or cancer, ketone levels may be important because ketones have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. W.r.t. cancer, see, e.g., the science and therapy design done by Dr. Thomas Seyfried and his team. Dr. Seyfried mentioned to keep the GKI below some level to get a therapeutic effect w.r.t. cancer in combination with the other components of his therapy. That requires measuring glucose and ketones because the GKI is computed from those two values.

I like your approach, I started a cgm 1 month ago. At first after meals my glucose would quickly peak to 120 or more. I would have to go for walks after meals to keep my glucoses from going over 140. I started reducing my
carbs to 100 a day, and increased regular exercise besides any extra exercise walks. I lost about 8lbs and also started with a salads and or vegetables at the first of the meals. After a month of this now as long as I stay on a
low carb high protein diet my glucose no longer spikes to 120 after meals. I wonder if everyone had a cgm and
kept their glucose under 140 they would lose weight as well??
Doc Eric, Dr Boz is extremely TRANSPARENT about her protocol for reducing insulin resistance and talks about it and includes real life examples from her health coaches, to scientific explanations of metabolic pathways and willing patients. Maybe not your style but you keep eluding to “your style” but leave it to us to fully engage with you and your clinic instead of putting out your protocol on the web to scrutiny. Can you please put together 30 or so clients that have benefited from your protocol and go into it in detail in some videos like you are requesting Dr Boz as a template for her? I can’t criticize Dr Boz cuz she puts it all out there every day, I listen and adjust my protocol for myself based on her exhaustive explanation of her protocol. I know you are very self confident and believe your protocol is best? Prove it. All due respect.

Information is power, especially REAL info about yourself…your metabolism! Measured blood sugar and ketones works for me, I am amazed at my blood sugar variance, what it really does vs my expectations. CGM is a great tool, wish they had one for ketones! A1c now 5.3, lost 70+ lbs and kept it off for 8+ years, my fasting insulin is my project, it is very stubborn, still hovers around 10!
I can tell you that through trial and error. Eating high fat diet in the beginning helps you get into ketosis quick. The more fat I eat the more weight I loose.
Having watched these bits of Dr Boz's presentation I am so glad I have never found them alone (without Dr Westman's interpretation). That bit on type 1 at the start was frightening.

yes me too, i eat fish oil for omega three and i think it is fine, its not the same as other oils that is bad for you

Higher my ketones, better my mood 👍, so yes for me it is very important 😊, I am more or less at my ideal weight so I do keto for the other reasons, mainly my (ex) life long depression.
I did intense fasting for a year and measured with my keto mojo. Never experienced a better more or more clarity. I’d do water fasts and feel worse. It doesn’t have that effect for everyone. Perhaps it’s my hypothyroidism, it fasting just wrecks my body, mind and mood. It may not be healthy for people thyroid issues. Dr Elizabeth Bright doesn’t suggest it for healing hormones and thyroid. As long as I stick with high fat carnivore and high dose iodine treatments, I continue to improve. No fasting needed.

I was following a keto diet for 2.5 months. After the 2.5 months, I lost 9 pounds,my hdl went up from 5 points and my glucose went up 4 points. My Dr was concerned. He looked at me like a deer in headlights when I told him I was following a keto diet, as if he didn't believe me. I brought to his attention that I lost some weight. He just replied 'well that's strange those numbers up'. Then told me diet will not affect cholesterol numbers because the liver is responsible for making cholesterol. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
I would concur on this with you that it doesn't need to be so rigid or structured, and not so picky, with a Caveate.
Let me explain, with some background first. The reason I believe she has you check the "boz" ratio is because the majority of people at some point get to a stall (mine has been for a year) and even though I never looked at "Net Carbs" I always looked at total carbs, I wasn't losing anymore, and I still have BMI wise another almost 100lbs to lose as a 5'8 male who already lost 85lbs. Actually in the last few months I gained back almost 20lbs. I found her because I had been trying to understand Ketosis, and metabolic health as well as causes of issues like mine, and what I found was that if my glucose levels are still over 100 on average, and I am at a stall in my weightloss it is likely that I am not in ketosis, or are in Ketosis for less time. Seeing this number has helped me find foods that may seem okay for most people but that spike my indivdual glucose levels. [I am not checking Ketones, mostly because I have a CGM (wish it did both) and I am not going to prick my fingers all the time when I am typing a lot for work.] Just half of her equation has helped me find those issues.
To get back to why she is picky on getting data (eating time and the Boz Ratio), I think it is because most of us will stall, and the data, if we are already doing it from the begining is easy to keep doing than to start when we were already in the middle of things, and frustrated at things not working any more.
Example: Some Artifical sweetners may affect each of us differently, and we may think, allulose is the one for me, or stevia, or munk fruit, or erythritol, but what may affect one persons glucose level may not affect someone else's the same, and I can see how my glucose level is affected by the type of meats I eat, and the types of veggies I eat.
It may not be perfect since I am not doing both Glucose and Ketone measuring, but it has helped me lose the weight I gained and get out of the stall I was in.
This is no way a detractor to your way, her way, or any otherway, but may help you or others understand why Dr. Boz's method seems so strict or excessive.

While I agree that it is not mandatory to measure to succeed, for me, I need to know what is affecting my body, so I do a lot of measuring and journaling of everything that could be influencing how I feel physically, cognitively and emotionally. Do I expect to do this for the rest of my life? No! However, I do think that I may have to do it occasionally if I fall below a threshold of comfort that I have learned to expect from myself. I haven’t reached that comfort threshold yet, so I carry on the best I can without obsessing. I observe, analyze and respond - usually in the morning upon awakening, then simply go through the day, occasionally making a note on what I have done, my environment, what I ate…. These notes take no more than a couple of minutes a few times per day. It helps me see trends I would never have known existed.
Now, that’s me. I spent a good deal of my early adulthood in research and loved it. Now I am the subject of my own research - to better my health and give me a long and fruitful life.
Hi, I hear about times to eat, but I work night shifts and eat at 6pm for a 10pm - 6am night shift. Then I sleep through the day. Does this make a difference?
I completely agree. Dr Boz makes it far too complicated. The only videos I like of her are the first ones when she tells her story of how she discovered keto . She actually closed her practice for one year before reopening as a keto clinic ! She talks about the autopsies done on epileptic people who had been put on the keto diet as children in the fifties and sixties.These brains are perfect, no Alzheimer’s, no degeneration of any kind . Also talks about other studies that convinced her about the importance and benefits.
But can we actually become insulin sensitive again. I’m skinny fat and pre diabetic. I lost 20 lbs and eat low carb. How long until I’m insulin sensitive again and won’t have a huge spike if I were to eat a high carb treat? I don’t want to go back to my old ways but I don’t like being insulin resistant and want to know that I will heal if that makes sense.
@Lovescoffeeandtea it took years and years to become insulin resistant so I'm afraid it's not a quick process. One Dr said years unfortunately 😣.
Thank you very much for clarifying some issues. Sometimes, it feels too much, especially when listening to some of Dr. B's videos. I prefer the pressure-free lifestyle I lead instead of the burden of drinking this oil, doing that measurement, eating sardines until you gag, etc.

There is one major flaw in the Dr. Boz ratio theory. The more body fat and visceral fat that you burn will also keep your ketones lower. It is well known now that when you lose or burn visceral fat your overall health improves, without question, this cannot be disputed. And when you are losing subcutaneous fat as well and you get into a really good state of homeostasis, then your body will run efficiently and all your numbers will fluctuate. EG., your blood glucose will fluctuate to how much you need for energy on it's own, and so will your insulin. But also so will your ketones as they are supposed to. So your ketones will not be as high as when you start Keto/Carnivore or just plain eating a healthy diet. So don't get to hung up on the numbers, in particular the ketones, your body will run very efficiently if you give the right fuel, it knows what it's doing.
? It only took about 3 months for me to get rid of type two diabetes. My insulin was 3.5 when I tested it at that point
Dr. Boz Ration only works on USA measurements - not mmol/L. So what are acceptable margins for insulin?
For some of us trying to reverse coronary artery disease, plus T2 diabetes, and having a lot of trouble even 20g carbs or less, even more carnivorish, and still not able to get bg under 100 or ever be in ketosis, I'm not sure what we have to do, or if it's truly possible to reverse it at all. For me, measuring ketones was only discouraging, because even fasting, I never get into ketosis or if I do it's barely.
Doc I've been carnivore since may 2023 and my type 2 diabetes seemingly gone, I've messed up many times and consumed a sandwich or soup.. but recently when I've had a sub... and something even with sugar.. my blood glucose did not spike the way it used to this time last year... I don't know if my type 2 is completely gone or not...don't want to go back to eating processed foods & donuts either... my question though is on MCT oil. I was taking about a tblspn per day and I'm not sure if it was beneficial or not. Do you recommend it? I'm out n thinking I might get more of it

It's my understanding that Adapt Your Life doesn't give people meal plans because they want you to determine your own hunger, and eat accordingly.

63 y young female couch potato on carnivore-ish here. I’m weighing myself AT THE SAME TIME in the morning. If I’ve put on weight from the food i ate two days before, i go back to strict carnivore. If not, i continue with meat based. I do try to add one new food at a time. I also keep a spreadsheet so that I’m tracking the weight. No measuring anything except weight. 😂 lost 8kg since start of June ‘24. And gained more stamina.

My problem is I was pre diabetic, lost 22 lbs and I’m 5’4” and weigh 119. I ate twice a day. Lower carb. It was simple. BUT my bg is still off. If I eat more than a tiny amount of carbs my response is delayed. And my morning bg is between 102 to 112. It’s SO frustrating cuz I love carbs. It stays mostly good in the daytime.
I disagree with you about protein. The best combination of macros for Keto is high fat, medium protein and low carb. I agree with Dr Boz.

I'm carnivore and I'm struggling with coffee creamer. The creamer that I absolutely Love has seed oil and natural flavor low sugar. I don't understand how this creamer would cause trouble health wise if 85-90% of the time I eat is great. This creamer doesn't even spike my blood sugar and I'm not diabetic. I don't like the feeling of being deprived of something, because the more I don't let myself have it. The more I want it. I just wanted to get opinions before I make a decision to use it again. For context. I'm 52, female, 4'11" 100 lbs. Even though I'm carnivore I had to add some things back in because I was losing too much weight.

Bart Kay claims that "insulin resistance" is a construct not a condition because the cell will naturally and as matter of necessity will prevent the absorption of more glucose once the maximum necessary glucose is already accieved. This is basically the Randall cycle as I understand it. Please address what Bart Kay has presented in regards to insulin resistance and the Randall cycle and the "diagnosis" of insulin resistance. In other words insulin resistance is exactly what the system is required to do to prevent intracellular damage to the organelles from toxic levels of glucose intracellularlly. Yes there will be toxic glucose in the blood stream but the blood constituents are sacrificed to protect the cellular organelles because they can be replaced easier and quicker. I have much love and respect for Dr. Boz, Dr Westman, and Bart Kay even though Mr Bart Kay has relegated me to dusters on more than one occasion. Well maybe it was Ted but you know what I mean.
There is just one glitch... High blood glucose level is very toxic for all organs. The proof ? Amputation and blindness. In which way does it help that the cells refuse to absorb more sugar ?
Can you do a video for people who workout like crazy and are convinced it is impossible to workout on keto and without a ton of carbs?? I saw a videp way back that for thise who want to gain muscle, recovery time is a lot shorter when meat-heavy, carb-free, and specifically, animal protein over any plant based protein. Thx!

I’m an endurance athlete and a CrossFit athlete and carnivore for a year and half . Have done several marathons carnivore .. been carnivore for a year and half and I’ve never felt better .. the lie is that you need carbs . I’ve never been stronger either .. meat is the way !
Is that true that muscle cells and the brain can use glucose without insulin ? Because people with type1 diabetes just don't drop dead or fall into a coma before treated with insulin. Also according to sports physiology, insulin secretion stops when we exercise. If that is true then obviously insulin's function is only blood glucose regulation and fat storage.

I too am "sus" about eating as early as possible. I think what Dr Boz means (guessing) is that if glucose / insulin is high already in the morning, then "surf the wave" and then benefit from the rest of the day being lower. Whereas eating later will mean a 2nd or even 3rd spike.
However, borrowing from the Paleo philosophy - our DNA is from caveman - the question is, will caveman have big meal in the morning? No refrigerators, no shopping malls. Raw meat overnight would go bad. So caveman cannot eat till they go hunt or gather eggs. So then the earliest they can eat is lunch, or more likely, late afternoon. Don't forget having to gather wood for fire. If this theory holds, then the glucose spike in the morning, is precisely to provide energy to go hunting! That glucose may be coming from gluconeogenesis - glucose released from stored fat or protein, to get caveman going. All speculation of course, but seems logical to me.
One thing that bothers me about ketone glucose ratios is the mixed units. Dr. Boz used ketone values in mmol/ltr but glucose values in mg/dl. Urine strips locally indicate ketones in mg/dl, unlike her blood monitor which uses mmol/l.
I actually sat down and figured how much a mole of the primary ketone weighed: 102g. So an easy conversion is divide mg/dl values by 10.
But I still don’t know if urine values are consistent with blood values. Google is hopelessly misleading.

@@paulhailey2537 I do that and produce ketones easily. At target weight after 3 months. But sometimes the urine strips show 80 mgs/dl. That seems high. I’ve gone to around 10-15g carbs to keep it around 40.

When I was in my early 20's I went from 165 to over 210 after my job became sedentary. In those day it was the Atkin's Diet that I turned to and lost all the weight in about 4 months, ending up just under 160. I kept my weight below 175 for the next 50 years by sticking with Atkin's and his recommendations. Still question advice of Dr B re: sarcopenia etc. on her more "advanced" level (once fat adapted) for weekly 72 hr fasting for someone aged mid 70s, with persistent Iron Deficiency.

Yes, that’s correct. Dr Isabella Cooper did a keto study where they took ketone and glucose levels 4xs a day and she said from 4-6pm was the most accurate time to get a measurement. Saw her on the Metabolic Mind channel.

I don't think the dawn effect is as bad for the keto types. Im a T2 insulin DM and I don't always get the dawn effect, although I used to.
Because if you have insulin resistance, your dawn effect is really whacked out. I have insulin resistance, my husband does not. His dawn effect is a blip, mine is a mountain. I still have work to do.

After a lifetime of obsessing about food, I find Carnivore the best way of eating, with absolutely NO measuring what so ever. I find it simplicity itself. Eating until satisfied. So long as I include enough fat I don’t tend to over eat and then I eat again when I am hungry.
A lot of people have found success with carnivore (according to the internet 😂) and I respect that.
But I love me some low-carb veggies 🍃🍀and don't want to go without.
I may be biased here but in my opinion Dr Westman looks the healthiest influencer/Doctor out there and generally looks better than the Carnivores.

Nearly 70yrs old, too much belly fat. I had to move, again. All that packing, all those boxes and all that lifting, shifting and stress. I didnt have much time to worry about my diet. Relied a bit on protein milk shakes. Lost a ton of weight & guess what, its almost all back in 10 weeks.... lol doom on me. Sigh. At least this channel is sensible. New subscriber 🎉

So I'm a 65 year old type 1 on a incelin pump " incelin dependent " . I've been doing this way of eating for 5 months am I safe eating more protein, fat, and no carbs.

Since March this year have type 2 They did 2 test and it was 7.0 both times fasting . Woman 60+ but have allways been aktive all my life but not gym hate that,I walk, cycling at my own pace My Weight was 84,5 kg march 19th this morning september 67. 2 have been on a low garbs diet alot of Veg, eggs, meat sometimes 2 meals aday sometimes 1 try not to eat after 7 in the evening often 5:30 latest i have had a few treats this past month ice cream,and some dark chocolate 86% and some other bits, so have a bad month not put on weight but dose affect my blood suger as its been a little up and down.This morning Good 5.6 My question to you please Dr is is it ok to cheat and have a treat sometimes tomorrow i want to have a sour dough bread roll with monzzarella cheese and basilika and tomatos but will eat it afternoon . Will say that i have Good energy feel very well so i must be doing something right, blood pressure very stable thank you for your time.😊
