That's my story too. Jason Fung is my most valued authority. I think intermittent fasting is the most critical technique and continue fasting 12 to 18 hours a day. It's very comfortable and effective.

@@roughout how long you do it regularly? Be warned that your metabolism will slow after some time. I am the example. Best way to maintain faster metabolism is to randomize/switch fasting and feastings. So not alwas same fasting at same time, because body will adapt and slow you: cold hands/feets, slower thoughs, less rest metabolic rate +thats the worst+. No matter how less calories you eat, your body will burn daily less and less and less and even a little more increase of calories will result in fat gain...

I eat generally once a day and keto mostly carnivore. I don't have any problem with eating enough but I know some do. I vary the times and prefer eating mid afternoon. My rule is only real food if it has an ingredient label I probably won't eat it.

A co-worker nagged me for six months to read Doctor Jason Fung's book, The Diabetes Code. In October 2018 I started fasting. According to how I understand Dr Fung's book, I also went low carb high fat in the meals between fasts. In practice, I ate a lot of barbecue chicken wings. It worked great. I lost 20 kilogram in about five months. I was ecstatic. My family doctor never really bought into the idea that I might be doing the right thing. He was happy I was losing weight.
My family doctor said he was surprised that I was losing weight on my own, not following his advice to eat 5 small meals a day, 300 calories each meal. He used to tell me not to eat fat. He used to tell me to have an apple about 11 pm so I would not get low blood sugar while I was sleeping. Almost everything he told me, Dr Fung's book told me the opposite. My family doctor has been my doctor for many years, all through the years I became fat and diabetic. When I following Dr Fung's book, My body weight came down. My A1C came down. I came off insulin injections.

Jason Fung explained that he started with low carb, but working in a public hospital with rather older patients, he tried to explain them what they could eat but they were confused about what is a carb and what is not and that’s how he came to fasting. It was easier for the people to understand and implement.

Dr. Fung works with a lot of South Asian patients who eat high carb traditionally and find it too difficult or confusing to change their diet in a radical way. It is easier and more practical to advise these patients to eat within time frames or do a longer fast.

Plus he advises them to eliminate sugar since their traditional diets also were low in sugar. We know from the research of Dr. Johnson and Lustig have shown that sugar is more dangerous than starches because half of it is fructose and fructose is just metabolized by the liver while glucose can be metabolized in all tissues of the body. So people that eat a lot of sugar are more likely to quickly get fatty liver disease. That's one of the reasons that we're seeing fatty liver disease in children with their increase in consumption of sugar and sugary drinks

Not to mention, blood pressure is 110/68, better now than when I was in my 20s (off those meds too, at age 54). After years & years of struggling to keep my health/labs under control while doing the 6 meal per day ADA recommended diets that always left me hungry and stressed, I've found extreme low carb (keto/carnivore) and intermittent fasting literally saved my life-- not only making me healthier, but I so much more enjoy what I eat, I'm satiated, and it's just easier than running around always trying to balance small meals & snacks.

@@almaburns6562 at the very least, every day I was intermittent fasting. I generally follow an 18/6 IF schedule. And also everyday was doing a ketogenic diet. Then on occasion I would do a 3 day fast. Every once in a while I did 5 day fasts. Then a few times a year did a 7 day fast. So, of course all of that time before that I had been doing a keto diet for years (had lost a lot of weight) before I stumbled upon fasting. Also playing with carnivore and OMAD. In the late 90’s I had cancer twice. Just a couple of years apart. Knew if I didn’t start taking my health seriously I would die. Second cancer (triple negative breast cancer) they gave me a 5 year life expectancy. And told me *when* the cancer would come back it would metastasize in my brain, bones, or lungs. Through lots of research decided keto would be my best bet to live a bit longer. That was about 20 years ago from the breast cancer :-) and 22 years since the endometrial cancer. I've done a 48 hr fast (carnivore) and I've been doing IF. I was lowkey shocked by how better I felt during day 2. It may take a while, but you do have to go low carb. And drink your electrolytes and water. I plan on doing more 48 hrs fast, (it really helps my healing digestion) maybe I can get to 3 or 4 day fasts where the real benefits spike.

Fasting is not easy if your eating carbs, I can't do it because the carbs make me hungry, But if I cut all carbs and only eat meat and eggs, I can fast for 16 to 24 hrs no problem, I'm on a lot of heart medication, so the cardiologist has told me to not fast longer than 24 hrs, basically he doesn't want me taking to many pills on an empty stomach. So I'm very low or no carbs, and 16 and 8 weekdays, breakfast on the weekend and skip lunch, working for me .

Dr Fung's original clinic catchment population was multicultural and sociocultural strugglers for whom fasting (usually for religious reasons) was not a foreign concept. It was quite acceptable to his patient population whereas removing carbs from a traditional diet was problematic. Because he was dealing with very sick people, his clinic used 'therapeutic fasting'; mostly alternate day fasting and longer fasts (under supervision for anything greater than three days).

I have always liked Dr.Fong. Now I have another Doctor I like. This is in fact that simple and I do like your caution . Both your styles complement each other. Neither one of you say the other diets are wrong (unlike the other guys who hate you) in fact you suggest their way may work for some. The patient in the end is your concern, as it should always be. Maybe the rest will realise that concept and they too make their first concert the patient.

The time restriction to eating/fasting can be very useful for someone who has overeating as a habit. Until they can overcome the mental hunger (i.e. habit, boredom, or emotional comfort) and be able to make the distinction between that and actual physical hunger. Minimizing insulin spikes and increasing the overall satiety of the food can help with that journey, but people may be coming from many years or decades of habit forming experience. And a defined time restriction can help be a guardrail on that journey.

Agree that fasting and LC are related and like Dr.Westman said, Fasting is a subset (literally no carb, no nothing for a period of time!). Both work depending on what you’re willing or able to do. Trust the process. I Respect both of these men immensely and am forever grateful to them for giving us the tools to save our health! Blessings and good health to all who read this. I took it for a few months and stopped taking it last September. I am much happier to use fasting and eating food that is good for me. And yes I have lost 65 pounds but what I like is that my inflammation has stopped too. Thanks to all the doctors discussing using food instead of drugs.

I eat one meal around 4:30 or 5, I eat til im stuffed, takes about 30 min. Any snacks or extras get eaten in that window. I've been living this way for 2 years, dropped 50 pounds in the first 5 months with Keto, went Ketovore at 18 months and now doing mostly carnivore. I am 52 and in the BEST shape of my life, I could beat my 22 year old self with EASE at anything. No pain, and energy for everything and anything! I am 5'9" and 170 for 2 years, working on adding some muscle so daily gym. I do omad because I get some Autophagy benefit, now that my body is cleaned out, I don't need 5 day fasts or anything crazy. Blood sugar is perfect, remove the carbs, remove the issue.@@1Mannco

He nailed it. I used the gas/car analogy 15 years ago in something I sent out to people. You don’t keep pumping gas into a full tank. Same thing with your body. Extra gas in your body turns to stored gas (fat) via insulin. Insulin is like the taxi cab that shepherds the gas around your body. Stop loading and overloading your body with excess gas (sugar-carbs). You don’t need to go to the gas station every couple hours to top off your tank. You can go when your tank gets further towards empty ie. skip the between meal and extra meal eating (consuming). If you do this early in life it not only becomes your healthy habit, you’re not spending a lifetime abusing body produced insulin, so it’s very likely,y you’ll never get pre diabetes let alone diabetes. It’s so simple. I wish someone explained this to us (me) when I was a teenager. Instead, we have the food industry via advertising and propaganda (backward food pyramid) telling us the exact opposite all day long every day while we remained ignorant of the metabolic science of our body. How could that happen in the 20th and 21st century? Greed and stupidity.

Great video. Since 2020, I've been keto with fasting (primarily 20:4, with periodic multi-day fasts). I've achieved great results and feel fantastic. The area where I struggle the most is knowing when to quit eating, when my eating window is open. I can't count the number of times that I've heard the adage "You can eat all of the animal protein and fat you want. Your body will tell you when you've eaten enough." Although I want to believe that, it just hasn't proven true for me. It's easy for me to fast, but once I start to eat, I want to eat everything in sight. If it's on my plate (or nearby), by God, I'm gonna eat it. LOL So, I have to be really careful when my eating window is open that I eat only a reasonable amount of food/calories (even with all of the calories being 'quality' calories/foods). I believe that the Energy Model and Insulin Model have to be used together, to achieve substantial fat-loss and metabolic-improvement results. The low-carb, fasting lifestyle has greatly improved my quality of life and, probably, my lifespan, too.

    • @velikijoxotnik
      @velikijoxotnik ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just to add on to what I've already said, I loved Dr. Fung's statement that even when you overeat for a period of time (such as during the holidays), it's easy to get back on track, but simply restricted windows and/or by going back to very low carb. I've had my friends tell me, "I've blown my diet, and have ruined myself." That's just not true. Cut the insulin levels, by fating and/or keto, and you'll get right back on the wagon. This lifestyle (blood glucose lowering) is sooooooooo much better than the calorie-restriction method (by itself) that has been preached for so many years.

I just want to say about the large long term safety study’s those cost a lot of money to run. And there’s no money to be made. So we will probably never have those. But with the number of people now doing intermittent fasting and all the people who have done fasting throughout history if it was harmful we certainly would know it by now! I know personally nothing worked for me till I started intermittent fasting I’m down 35lbs and no longer considered pre diabetic. Still on my journey and I’ve got a ways to go but I’m sold! So personally for me stay away from sugar, gluten, processed foods and intermittent fast. With occasional 2 or 3 day fasts. It’s been game changing! I’m not willing to not eat fruits or higher carb veggies. Those are healthy foods, so I want to keep them in my diet.
