edog1955 Only problem is when this song came out, Kenny was popular with Baby Boomers, not the Generation X’ers who were all elementary through high school when this came out.
Loggins doesn't always get his due because he gets lumped in the "soundtrack singer" category (Caddyshack, Footloose, Top Gun), but real music fans know he's the genuine article when it comes to his own music and especially his 70s work with Jim Messina. I think he might have even been the biggest vocal influence on George Michael heading into the 80s.
I've never associated Kenny as a "soundtrack singer" and I remember all the hype around Top Gun too, but Kenny was already established well before that movie, as well as Footloose.
Footloose and Danger Zone are Kenny's 2 worst songs... or at least they are completely out of line with all the great stuff that he did over a 15-year period. Unfortunate for him to be remembered mostly for those songs, which i assume he did not write... I never thought before about the similarity of George to Kenny... that is a very interesting comment.
It just dawned upon me that it probably is his son (in this video) he is drawing. He is trying to paint a picture of the way forward and does not know where things are going and how best to deal with them .. and the picture he is trying to draw is that of his relationship with his son. It looks like his son is living with his mother. The oilfields look like obstacles to the light off in the distance down a road, the light being presumably the path to his father. Conversely, Kenny also reaches out for his son. It's rather sad, but the message of love (heart) drawn by his son gives a glimmer of hope for the future despite their separation. After all, the song was actually written about his parents impending divorce. The falsetto verses are unexpcted and mesmerizing .. such a beautiful song.
Kenny Loggins...man I remember listening to his songs on the radio in the late 70s and early 80s. Back when we not only were listening to R&B and early hip hop. We were listening to pop like this...Good old days of music...
1983 baby! Kenny laid it down on this cut. Not many folks could pull off the double of being on the R&B and Adult Contemp. charts at the same time, he did.
Kenny & Michael & David Foster did a great live performance this year (2017) of this song, along with the other two hits Kenny & Michael co-wrote: th-cam.com/video/8CudiO72aAo/w-d-xo.html
This song is nostalgic is the respect that my mother used to play this all the time when my brother-father would screw up. I remember thinking "Wow....a white guy that can sing." him and Donald Fagan created some wonderful music coming out of the late 70's and early 80's. One of my favorite songs of all-time.
I was the only young brotha in 'the hood' listening to this at first back when it came out. Few weeks later my boys started jammin' to it...lol! Goes to show that music transcends all!
Good song. I've always liked the music of Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. I hear this and other songs of Kenny's and Michael's a lot on Yacht Rock (Channel 18) on SiriusXM.
I was 10 when this came out, and absolutely loved this song...& I love it even more now! Difference between then and now is shocking what I've witnessed since '82... NEVER in my 48 years did I think we'd all be wearing masks out in public...& going through these times of today. Thank GOD for this song, & music like this to get through these days! Stay safe everyone!
You couldn't be more right! I'm 50, and hearing these songs reminds me of my childhood. Easier days in so many ways. In my opinion, this who mask thing was created on purpose!!!
Does Kenny Loggins capture the essence of the 80's or what? Can I get an "Amen"? Brothas, Nerds of all colors, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna clones, pre-Gothic, we ALL got down to Kenny Loggins back in the day. His beats, his enthusiasm, come on man, y'all know it didn't get any better than this dude.
OMG!!! I've looked for this video for THIRTY YEARS! As a kid, I remember a music video about a kid in an artist chair. I specifically remember the adult ripping up a piece of paper and throwing it away, but could never place the song.
A timeless classic that makes my drink go down just a little bit smoother! This jam speaks too me! Special thanks to that assembled cast that made this song that much better! Michael McDonald , David Sanborn & that Fender Rhoads Piano.
I was born in 1993 and I'm not attached to celphones like crazy, the only use I give to it it's to listen Keny Loggins songs, loved theses old momas songs :') make me feel like I'm 5 years old having a laugh in the beach
Those days we were so happy listening radio, getting a new 7" (45RPM). Tha life was so simple, we were free, without the mobile phones, thinking about the good future as adult people. We were happy... and still we are!. We lived in a very nice time.
The time period from 1976 to 1985 had many of the best music that you will ever hear in your life. Kenny Loggins was one of those who was phenomenal during that time. I'll sure miss those days where music meant something compared to now
Amazing lyrics. Like some others have mentioned, at the start of 2012, I sat down with my wife, after saying that I was ready to leave after 17 years of marriage. I said basically the same things to her. That I wanted to give it another try. After that, we have been making a really good effort to get together. It amazed me how far we'd grown apart while still living in the same house. My glue was my responsibility, but I'd lost the feeling. But it's been great getting back together.
i know you posted this 11 months ago but i wanted to say i agree with you 100%. Im 42 and i keep on flashing back to the 80s and even the 90s because things just seemed to be much simpler. Times today just seem far too complicated and it feels like the world is always on edge. Oh well, at least we still have our music from those better times.
Such great vocals and lyrics. Heck, everything about the song is as about as perfect as it gets. Here's another great song radio shuns. Probably my favorite from Kenny Loggins.
I remember when this song came out...Around this time 36 years ago. Winter in MN, and the windchill was -70 below...It was so cold that the schools were cancelled. Pre-footloose era, very early 80s sounding
I'm a couple years younger and stuck in the 70s-80s. Such great songs! Total agreement with you (only a week later). Wish it could be that simple again. But nostalgia-enducing music does help me sometimes.
This song says alot.Kenny even wrote in the liner notes of his album:Greatest Hits - Yesterday,Torday and Tomorrow that he felt this song was a bridge to connect people
I also agree I am 42 too and who would have thought that this was the way it was going to turn out and it is not getting any better thank's for whoever post these songs from the good times when we kept it simple. PEACE
I hadn't heard this song in so long. I had forgot the name and artist, then I heard it today at a fast food restaurant, then I recognized Kenny's voice. Thanks for uploading this.
I'm 40 and remember watching the instances you cited. What I think is that technological advancements have changed society. The traditional nuclear family is gone and so are the values. Morality and respect have been flushed down the toilet as well. What we have become are slaves (and/or addicts) to accessible, instantaneous information overload. There is certain freedom in simplicity that today's world does not allow. No, we can never go back, but we can always remember!
After 20 years of marriage this song speaks directly to me. Sometimes what you have been searching for has always been right in front of you. When you stop searching for the "holy grail" of happiness and appreciate and love what you have..then and only then will you realize what "love" really is and be happy in your life. "love" is not feeling butterflies and hearing violins..it's a deep caring for someone on many levels.
this song makes me home sick...back in new york days..im in cali now and their oldies are a lil bit different...i love this song sooooooooo much...its soulful and infectious...the melody..the harmony...i love kenny loggins...micheal mcdonald....bee gees all those dudes...james taylor...tooo.....im black and puertorican...when it comes to great music theres no color lines...thats the way it should always be.....they passed the torch to justin....timberlake that is...and some others...lol
This song reminds me when i was in the Garden of Eden before I grew up to be a man, got married, and have children.. made me realized you never loose yourself in this temporary walk called life.. awesome song !!!!!
I heard this song on Sirius XM on the 4 hour drive back home from an Eagles concert early this a.m. and remembered to find this video on TH-cam today. I remembered seeing this when I was younger and always wondered if the video was hinting at references to the Close Encounters Of The 3rd Kind movie.
Ah...the 80's, how I miss you and wish you can return! I was in so much bliss and happiness as a child in that decade! This song takes me on a journey back in time. Amazing!
Roxan I don’t understand the meaning of it, either. I don’t think the little boy is his alter ego, Kenny grew up in Washington, not an oilfield camp in Oklahoma!
Roxan , i don’t really get the video either, but this is from the Wikipedia page about the song. “The song speaks of the mutual opening of hearts as being the only way to preserve a relationship once the partners have allowed themselves to grow apart. The lyrics acknowledge that most relationships do not endure the test of time, yet still some are able to do so.” So I don’t know if that’s him as a young boy reconciling with his mother or what.
He has influenced Sooo many artists from Rock to RNB. From Micheal Jackson to El Debarge. He has one of the most greatest and versatile voices in music.
The vocal melody lingers in your head for days!!! My wife was like, what is this song you keep humming!! The pre chorus part....whatever it is he says after the "this is our last chance".... sometimes you write a song and you think you came up with something original and then someone says they've heard that melody before, then you realize it was something that had just been stuck there for years like this
I luv this song!!! I use to listen to this when I was a kid, but I never knew the title,I just knew the melody and that it was kenny Loggins. I've been lookin 4 this song for the longest!
The video is kind of corny and does not really go with the song, but I understand that this was the 1980s. However, I love all of Kenny Loggins’ songs! This piece in particular is very powerful in my view. For whatever the reason, it makes me think about winning the World Series in Game 7 in major league baseball and finally achieving a realization that many spend a lifetime chasing! Great song; great music, generally. Thank you, Kenny Loggins, and please do not stop singing!
This is the top love song of all time to me this and wanna know what love is this song brings up good cells in my body love it love it Kenny is truly the best of all time love the funk and jazz in this song ............... thanks millions for posting
great song, don't understand why this song doesn't get a whole lot of airplay on the radio yet the radio stations still play "Danger Zone" and "Footloose" to the ground today, I personally prefer Kenny's album hits over his soundtrack hits yet his album hits seem to be less popular.
The Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald collaborations never cease to amaze me! This is what I grew up with and pursue music
I am 19 and I MUST say that this.......no im sorry THIS is what my generation needs REAL MUSIC!!!! I thank my mother for teaching me what that is.
The man is still fine going into 2023. Not even lying.
Time to get Kenny Loggins into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame!!
edog1955 I was thinking this about Loggins in the hall of fame ! he'll yes
edog1955 Absolutely!
Imagine Bob Gibson not in the MLB HOF. Yet here's Kenny Loggins. Just can't figure this out.
edog1955 Only problem is when this song came out, Kenny was popular with Baby Boomers, not the Generation X’ers who were all elementary through high school when this came out.
Yes!!!
What do you mean he doesn't get his due? What the hell more do you want?
I've never associated Kenny as a "soundtrack singer" and I remember all the hype around Top Gun too, but Kenny was already established well before that movie, as well as Footloose.
Footloose and Danger Zone are Kenny's 2 worst songs... or at least they are completely out of line with all the great stuff that he did over a 15-year period. PeekaPeep I’ve loved Kenny forever ♥️♥️
PeekaPeep
It just dawned upon me that it probably is his son (in this video) he is drawing. He is trying to paint a picture of the way forward and does not know where things are going and how best to deal with them .. and the picture he is trying to draw is that of his relationship with his son. It looks like his son is living with his mother. The oilfields look like obstacles to the light off in the distance down a road, the light being presumably the path to his father. Yes it was, and he was one of those awesome voices of growing up back then. Great stuff.
I love all kinds of music and this is one of my favorite
1983 baby! Kenny laid it down on this cut. Not many folks could pull off the double of being on the R&B and Adult Contemp. charts at the same time, he did.
Recorded/released in 1982
Kenny Loggins doesn't get the respect and recognition he deserves. He helped make the 80's as great as they were.
If you dont like this kind of music, you have no heart.
Love this song!!! Such a classic. Kenny is a soulful cat.
larry conley it’s a phenomenal song ! What range this man has!!!
Stevie Nicks said he was ridiculously hard to work with, because he was such a perfectionist. But it was worth it
My absolute favorite damn song!!
Darnell Smith such passion and groove child good favorite!!

Difference between then and now is shocking what I've witnessed since '82...

The being of 80s were real artist's. Love Kenny he has a beautiful voice
So does his cousin Dave
Does Kenny Loggins capture the essence of the 80's or what? Can I get an "Amen"? Brothas, Nerds of all colors, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna clones, pre-Gothic, we ALL got down to Kenny Loggins back in the day. His beats, his enthusiasm, come on man, y'all know it didn't get any better than this dude.

I want to see Loggins, McDonald, and Faith Hill in concert together. Talk about great, soft Southern Rock, R&B, and Soul.
Those days we were so happy listening radio, getting a new 7" (45RPM). Tha life was so simple, we were free, without the mobile phones, thinking about the good future as adult people. We were happy... and still we are!. We lived in a very nice time.
"High Adventure" is an outstanding album.
Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald opened a whole world of other types of music to me! And I'm grateful.
they dont do music like this anymore...
Jan Anton Reynoso i agree, this kids loves catchy songs, n mumble rap
It's so unfortunate! This era of music produced rhe BEST music, by the BEST artist, This was during the era when radio was worth listening to.
The time period from 1976 to 1985 had many of the best music that you will ever hear in your life. Kenny Loggins was one of those who was phenomenal during that time. I'll sure miss those days where music meant something compared to now
Kenny you know this a bad cut, 1st Love turned me on to this - amazing 20 years later, now I can hear it over and over on TH-cam -

Kenny Loggins is a MASTERMIND!!!!!
I remember when this song came out...Around this time 36 years ago. Winter in MN, and the windchill was -70 below...It was so cold that the schools were cancelled.
Pre-footloose era, very early 80s sounding
Just heard this song today, KNEW that had to be Michael McDonald on keys!
synth on a plinth And Chorus!
David Foster played piano on this, Michael McDonald played Rhodes. That's his style, no doubt about it.
Music in the '60s'70s '80s are the true real definitions of MUSIC..never get tired of listening and uplifting oneself in the world today...
this song is so smooth and sultry, its timeless
I'm a couple years younger and stuck in the 70s-80s. Such great songs! Total agreement with you (only a week later). Wish it could be that simple again. But nostalgia-enducing music does help me sometimes.
Smoothness delivered from the Gods themselves!
Lets keep the fire burning, all day long....all night strong! Loggins is a beast!
This song says alot.Kenny even wrote in the liner notes of his album:Greatest Hits - Yesterday,Torday and Tomorrow that he felt this song was a bridge to connect people

Great song. Very good vocals of Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald in the background. I miss this era along with this good music.
I'm 40 and remember watching the instances you cited. What I think is that technological advancements have changed society. The traditional nuclear family is gone and so are the values. I love you. Kenny Loggins, you truly are a national treasure. I hope all is well with you and yours.
Loggins is the patron saint of smooooooth..........

This great song reached #15 in early 1983. He had over a dozen Top 40 hits, but this one is my very favorite of his!
Totally underrated!
I had this song on some cassette I bought in 1985 along with De Barge’s All This Love and Dione Warwick’s Heartbreaker. And I was 17 years old. Geek!
Great song! Kenny's best song ever! Reminds me so much of
that early 1980's era!!!

Lol. I'm 21, I know more songs from this generation than mine... Period of great music...Kenny Loggins - Heart to Heart, one of my all time favorites.
The baddest guys from that era Kenny Loggins Michael McDonald and Michael Franks they can shut it down
the sax solo in this song is completely epic.
Anyone else here in 2018? I forgot this song existed, heard it randomly, remembered being 12 and am completely obsessed.
Nice song. Felt in love the first time when I hear it... But lets be honest this video is confusing as ever????
@@painful-Jay This time period had a lot of nonsensical videos featuring great songs. What troubles me is that he's not using drafting pencils.
what a beautiful song I just had to add this to my favorite,s.
Kenny was beyond his time, from soul to pop music.👊😶🔥
Thanks
He has influenced Sooo many artists from Rock to RNB. From Micheal Jackson to El Debarge. He has one of the most greatest and versatile voices in music.
Kenny & Michael's best! Love this song!
How could anyone not like this??? Soulful
Anyone who is listening to this song, knows good music when they hear it.
Me being a young black man Kenny Loggins is one of my favorite artist High Adventures and Vox Humana consistantly stay on my MP3 player
Nothing better than a great song like this that conjures up great memories of yesteryear.
What the heck are you doing Kenny? Those drawings are good. Every last one of them.

This is truly awesome. If only it was in higher quality than 240p. Still I thank Q for a wonderful post
