On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 5-31-24.
We're looking at a 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible in Champagne Paint.
The car comes with the 390 CI V8 and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is John McConnaughay. John’s had this car since 1975. John shares the person who sold him the car shares he wanted him to buy the car so he could still stop by every now and then to see the car. John bought the car, has it in parades, and yes once in a while, the former Owner stops by to see the car.
ENJOY!

Oh man! I wish we still had fun cars like this!
Nice interview Lou, and no you're not getting any money besides the "like" 🤣
Thank you for your wonderful classic car content!
Lou I can't get enough of these 50's / 60's Caddy's. Champaigne over red is stunning. This era is the pinnacle for GM styling and this Eldorado with all of these options and features proves why. I'm going to have to watch this video a couple of times just to take it all in. Keep bringing us these awesome videos Lou!!
Hi Tom (and JudyAnn), High praise for the styling of this car :-) Glad to read this is a video you can watch a few times, Lou
I don't think I've ever seen one of these.
Everyone talks about the '59.
So amazing!
Hi Dave in Canada, Happy to read "So amazing!" :-) Good news! Here is one more for you to enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/wYNJNQVXu4w/w-d-xo.html
@@loucostabile thank ye
This 1960 Cadillac Eldorado with that Champaigne paint looks like the epithet of elegance! With clean and soft lines, from the large chrome grille on the front with those protruding eyebrows and double headlights, to the large boat-style tail with the beautiful fins, which even house lights, and its direction indicators positioned vertically in separate chrome pieces. How beautiful its interior looked in red, with all its chrome panel pieces and parts catching the sunlight. Excellent, as always, the collection of manuals and brochures preserved from the period with their beautiful art and photographs (special mention for the trunk closing electronically). The final beautiful and relaxing tour, with those landscapes as a backdrop; In addition, the vehicle felt very smooth, since practically nothing could be heard, giving the impression of walking on a cloud on wheels! Congratulations to Mr McConnaughay, for taking care of this magnificent car for almost 50 years! Best regards, Lou!
Hi Jaime, High praise for the looks of this car :-) Enjoy reading what you see. You're right, the tour was relaxing because you couldn't feel or hear anything. My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
If only we had cars like this these days! Shoo! Can you imagine what fun we are all missing? All we have these days, are boring ole SUV's, vans & trucks, so dull, so utilitarian. Why, oh why??????
Wow! That is a MAGNIFICENT car! Cadillacs were once very special car with design and elegance. That is just a wonderful flowing design with toned down fins and wonderful proportions. The color combination is stunning. Just when you think Lou can't find a better car, it finds a BETTER car! Awesome work, Lou!
Hi ultraviolet tp, High praise. My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
I agree with the Cadillac designer who said they got it right with the '60. The '59 is really something, but the '60 is in my mind one of the most beautifully designed cars in history. Right there with the '41 Lincoln. Thank you Lou and John!
Happy to read "'60 is in my mind one of the most beautifully designed cars in history." :-) You're welcome Mikey B!
Beautiful vehicle, thank you! Especially LOVE the red interior! Cars made today are MUCH TOO BORING!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome. I think you've found the right TH-cam Channel for the cars you enjoy!
Gorgeous...always preferred the cleaner 60 over the overwrought 59...that delicate outline of chrome around the body side is truly elegant. Really rich color combo, buckets too. Nice to see one still on air...i have a '58 Fleetwood originally on air but currently on springs...i have all the takeoff parts tho to retro fit back to air, so encouraging to see this one where it actually works.
Hi Steve, Happy to read "Gorgeous" :-) Glad to read you have a fun Cadillac too, Lou
What a beautiful car - my grandma had the 66 Eldorado conversable and riding in it made everyone feel special!!

That's an Awesome Cadillac, I love the way it's been very well taken care of.🇺🇲😊
Happy to read "That's an Awesome Cadillac, I love the way it's been very well taken care of." :-)
beautiful car sir!... its good to see a beauty like this unmolested, just well kept and driven some!...
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
That stainless “C” moulding is so thin and designed perfectly. A designer “won” the argument to include that trim. The condition is just right for me since driving it is the thrill. Nice review again and thanks once again.❤
Hi M A, Happy to read the details you enjoy. You're welcome, Lou
What a beautiful car. Love the Champagne paint. Not such a fan of the red interior...maybe that's because my 1990 had Champagne and an interior to match. But this is still beautiful. The 1990 trunk was electronic too. Had to get used to that. Loved it. OMG - the ride was fantastic. This was when Cadillac was still the Standard of the World. They lost it, in my opinion...but these oldies sure proved that point. Smooth, beautiful Cadillac!!!
Hi Brian, High praise. Lou
Hi, Lou! The license plate on this beauty says it all! It's bound to elicit lots of oohs and aahs! Why, even the red-winged blackbirds are giving a shout out! I think it's also a perfect example of why Cadillac was regarded as the "standard of the world". John is so fortunate to have been able to enjoy it for so many years!
Many thanks to you and John for popping out the Champagne and taking us along on this classic luxury ride!
Hi iswc27, Happy to share this "standard of the world" Cadillac with you :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Its bulbous! It’s loong! It’s heavy! BUT it’s a Cadillac! AND an Eldorado Biarritz! Beautiful car. Yes, I like the 1960 styling better than 1959 too. Thank you very much Lou.
Hi Steven, Happy to read you enjoy the styling of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
What a gorgeous Cadillac! You certainly will be noticed when you arrive in this one. I love the color, the fins, and the chrome. And what a surprise it was for me to see those 3x2 carbs under hood. It's classy from every angle. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, You're right, you can't be missed in this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
You can't even hear that awesome Caddy Running! What a great car! Pure luxury and beauty.
"You can't even hear that awesome Caddy Running!" You're right. "What a great car! Pure luxury and beauty." You're right again.
If this car doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing will
:-)
Wonderful car Lou. Amazing that is has been with John since 1975. Styling is magnificent.
Happy to read you enjoy the "Wonderful car" Kevin :-)
@@loucostabile Lou, I admire what you produce after so many years doing so. Thank you.
Now that's the Cadillac of Cadillac's! 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
"Now that's the Cadillac of Cadillac's!" Well said motorTranz! You're welcome!
It’s the Cadillac of automobiles!
I love those big fins with the rocket taillights on the 59 but the 60 was a little more subdued. A little more classy in my opinion. I love them both.
"It’s the Cadillac of automobiles!" NICE!
Oh Lou!.... Just love the caddy's!!... This one is a beauty right down to the wide white walls! Have a great day.
Hi Debbie, Happy to share this car with you :-) Lou
Beautiful survivor! Unreal.
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read "Unreal" :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
AWESOME CADDY Lou! Just the classic car to go Friday and weekend cruising with! 😎🤟🏾🔥😆
Happy to read you enjoy this "AWESOME CADDY" :-)
Personally, Nothing beats a survivor....esp a Caddy with working Bags. The 1960 has a much more refined look that the 59. A beautiful Car...Thanks John and Lou.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome John.
1960 might be my favorite year for the Eldorado.
Happy to read this is your favorite year Eldorado :-)
Always loved the 60 Eldo over the 59! Gorgeous.
Happy to read this is the one you prefer :-)
Hi Lou, what a great looking Cady, the 1960 model was a good looking model, and that guys car is a great survivor, a great video.👍👍.
Hi Philip, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
I like the '60 and its tail fins the best. Such a great iconic car, an American classic and the Champaigne color looks beautiful. Nice video gents thank you.
Hi Bruce H, Happy to read you enjoy the tail fins on this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Love the old Caddy these cars were time machines My grandson loves these old Cadillac's and is searching for one now thanks Lou and God Bless.
Hi Leroy, Happy to read you and your Grandson "Love the old Caddy" :-) Hope he's behind the wheel of the right one for him soon. Blessings received. God bless you too. You're welcome, Lou
Great owner. Beautiful car. Great scenery too. Enjoyed that!
Happy to read you "Enjoyed that!" :-)
One beautiful caddy
:-)
She's a winner Lou!...I prefer the more "refined" look of the '60 Caddy, I like the tail-lights, and smoother fins...almost looks capable of flight!
Glad to read his one is a winner thelaststraw :-)
When Cadillacs dominated the world of luxury . ' An American Standard For The World ' ; that slogan meant something!
It was this type of bold beautiful Cadillac that made the brand legend .
Happy to share this Cadillac legend with you :-)
Awesome car. The ‘60 is, I think much better looking than the over the top ‘59. Beautiful!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this "Awesome car" :-)
What a beautiful specimen.

Harley Earl's final design for Cadillac, with Chuck Jordan and Bill MItchell. Absolutely fantastic car! The 1959-60 Cadillacs were called "Spaceships on wheels" back in the day.
Happy to read you enjoy this "Absolutely fantastic car!" :-)
Lou... You continue to provide such informative and entertaining shows! Always great to hear from you and all other collectors!
Jason...Happy to read you enjoy the episodes with me :-) Glad you're along for the ride.
Bless you John!!
Nice :-)
You know me and survivors. What a Caddy. Really enjoyed this. Thanks Lou!
Happy to read you really enjoyed this :-) You're welcome John!
Let’s toast some champagne and salute this Eldorado! “Clink!”
NICE!
Absolutely beautiful 👍🏻
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
So, so nice! My friend had a blue four door, came by and we took a cruise, I even got to drive it. It was so smooth! He dropped me off and headed for home, at the first stoplight someone hit him head-on and it was totaled. The middle of the hood was seven feet tall, bent double.
Ouch!
🙋♂️ THANKS LOU AND JOHN FOR SHARING THIS SURVIVOR ,LOVE THE CHAMPAGNE COLOR 💚💚💚
You're welcome Budget Audiophile Life-long.
My fastback has widetrack & autronic eye, which which winks when a cute little Volvo goes by...
(Allen Sherman)
A great 60's song.
NICE!
Omg! Incredibly beautiful Caddy! Thank You John, and Lou! Look how small, and thin that Owners Guide for this yacht of a car was in 1960. Compared to today’s Owners Manuals that are as thick if not thicker than a Holy Bible is. I used to read manuals cover to cover many times. Not today’s cars. I skim through the maintenance section.
Hi gene978, Happy to receive a "OMG" from you :-) Lou
Love this car , a dream car I would like to have , but will never happen. Thanks for showing this beautiful car , guys.
High praise. Happy to share this "dream car" with you :-) You're welcome.
Very cool Cadillac - Like the color & fins - Gary: from Detroit, Michigan 🚂
Hi Gary, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Nobody in the world ever made a car so bold. And Americans could actually own one with hard work. That is the American Dream alive and well in 2024.
Happy to read you enjoy the "American Dream" :-)
Stunning car!!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Beautiful Cadillac Lou, I have a 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood 4 door hardtop that was my grandparents that im going to get to restore one day, have to finish my Duster and a 56 Chevy BelAir hardtop first. Never seen that color on a Cadillac before.
Hi PlymouthDuster225, Happy to read you have a Big Daddy Caddy too :-) Lou
Fantastic baroque shark-mobile...love the indirect cabin lights on the doors and rear quarter interior too. I favor it over the '59, as I am a 1960 model myself😆
Happy to read you and this car share the same birth year :-) Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful Cadillac ! Thanks for posting Lou !
You're welcome Rudy!
5 stars always nice car !😀
High praise :-)
Beautiful car and beautiful area
Happy to read you enjoy the looks and of this car. Glad you're along for the ride.
She is so gorgeous! That’s a dream car. That baby seat is an arm rest Lou!
Happy to share this "gorgeous" car with you. Thank you for sharing that's an arm rest Jeffrey!
This is how you keep a Survivor, awesome,
I love the 60, the 59 was a little too over the top haha which we all love though but the1960 model has just beautiful lines and styling that never goes out of "style"
Love this car interesting color combination with interior, thank you Lou for the video
Hi Scotty K, Happy to read you enjoy the styling of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Thanks for making and sharing this video = great car !!!
My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome mrgrandprix fourspeed.
That thing is magnificent 👌
High praise.
That's a beautiful big car love the color that's very interesting to have airbags from the factory on that car? although Cadillacs are really styling at the time😊
Hi Pete, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
OMG, look at the length of that!!! What a BEAST!!!! Is that original paint and interior??? In 1960 i was barely 5 years old and i remember on Long Island Saint Patricks day parades closing down the then main highway and displaying cars like that, fire dept, etc. being in them almost new then!!!
Hi Jim, You're right, this is a long car :-) Yes original interior and paint.
as a kid in 1962, I heard the automatic dimmer in our '58 Buick called an electric eye

Stunner!!!
Happy to read "Stunner!!!" :-)
Beautiful color.
Happy to read you enjoy the color of this car :-)
In my opinion that's one of the top five best looking cars ever built.
Question Lou, is there a car that you haven't ridden in and is it on your list?
Thanks again Lou 👍👍
Hi Pat, High praise on the "top five best looking cars ever built" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Chrysler had their fuselage styling, but this was a better example. A very nice evolution from the '59 models.
Thank you for viewing and sharing what you notice.
i like it.
:-)
AC is in it for times when it is too hot or rainy.
Correct.
A Gorgeous Caddy!
Nice :-)

@@loucostabile ok pro
This car is an outstanding subject for your series, The most remarkable aspect of this car is the functional air suspension system which was standard equipment on the 1960 Eldorado models for the last year, It would have been nice to have demonstrated how the air suspension system allowed manual lifting the car nearly five inches
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) I tried videoing the air suspension lift, however it took too long to lift and I would have put everyone to sleep.
@@loucostabile If the system was working properly the lift process should be rather quick. That aside it is remarkable that the air suspension is still operable in this car.
Three deuce set-up available (optionally) on any 1960 Cadillac. Standard on Eldorado models. Owner stated "only available on the Eldorado."

The tag ought to say QE II. Nice car!
Thank you for sharing. Happy to read you enjoy this "Nice car!" :-)
Lou has kind of a Steve Buscemi look to him, IMO. 😉
Not sure if I saw it on this channel, but I recall seeing something about GM moving the cruise control into the spot on the driver's side where the windshield washer controls are in later models (possibly impacting other brands aside from Cadillac). That video pointed out how that essentially created a pretty significant safety hazard since the controls for both functions were designed almost exactly the same.
Hi Rob, Thanks for sharing what you notice. Lou
Чудове авто! Але, 59 ефектней! Дякую!
Hi Сергій, Happy to read you enjoy this "Great car" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Never knew about the pneumatic suspension. That explains a lot. They look great low.
Happy to share this car and the details with you :-)
My mom hàd one of these in à Forest Green. I used it to go to Atlañtic Çity for our honeymoon trip in spring of 1964 while my ’63 Sting Ray was in the shop. It was a beautiful çar. (They both were)😂😅

If that third deuce carburetor were taking in gas for a while i wonder if the speedometer would get buried? The eldorado model trim sure makes a difference. Love those two chrome strips up high near the door handles and going all along the length. . . :>/
as the speedometer gets buried, the gas tank gets emptied :-)
Hi Lou maybe you can let John know I think the 60s Cadillacs look a lot better than the 59 I know everybody is into the 59 Cadillacs but I think the 60s look a little better more sleeker? So he definitely has a beauty there and it's gold color Champagne.....
Hi spackmaster Chavez, I think John reads the comments. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Awesome
NICE!
What a beautiful looking car and side view look like a rocket or a missile.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
1960 convertible with factory a/c....you just didnt see it that often, and mostly only on the top luxury models...if you had it, it showed you had arrived indeed!
"1960 convertible with factory a/c....you just didnt see it that often, and mostly only on the top luxury models...if you had it, it showed you had arrived indeed!" I agree.
Nice 😊
Hi Michael, Happy to read this one is "Nice" :-) Lou
I would drive it to the moon and back. Top down.
Nice :-)
Only thing the old Caddilacs lacked was independent rear suspension
Thank you for sharing the improvement you would have liked to see.
so my question that i have is what type of fuel do you use? and do you have to add a lead supplement for the rings? my pop had a 60 SDV and the a 65
Hi Neal, Not sure on the fuel question. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge. Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Pops cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I always like the '60 better than the '59. The fins were more to scale on the '60. I had a neighbor about 15 years ago had '60 Coupe de Ville he bought new. Some car. big, When he passed his widow sold it.
Hi Brian, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Would loved to have known the story behind the centre arm rest which bucket seat cars never had, assume it was home made

WOW!!!
;-)
I have one word, WOW! At least to my eye it’s a strange color combination. I believe the radio is not from 1960. Cadillac didn’t have AM/FM until 1963. Cars like this just aren’t made anymore. Nowadays all we can get are white, black, silver or gray SUV’s. Talk about boring!
Hi Dave, Happy to receive a "WOW!" from you :-) Lou
Looks like a jet fighter ready for take off.
I can see why you'd say that.
The 1960s were supposed to be more outrageous until they saw what Chrysler (very conservative at the time) had sitting in a parking lot at one of their buildings behind a chain link fence for everyone to see. It shocked GM into changing all of their designs for 1960.
HI danam0228, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Lou
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍💯💯💯💯💯
:-)
👍👍
:-)
I’ve seen enough beautiful Cadillacs I can’t take it anymore. Put a hitch on it and I’ll tow a trailer. Sell the house and live in my trailer towed by a classic Caddy 😂
NICE!
♥️♥️♥️
:-)
I really love that car♥️
NICE!
