CrawlerEnder 935 the rebels hardly ever attacked. They fortified and fought a war of attrition. And the only time they tried to invade union territory they got their asseses handed to them. With that said, the rebs were tough but not because they were rebels, it's because they were American.

Also, most of the the higher ups of the japanese army, almost forced their soldiers to throw their lives away from suicide charging. If that's not fucked up enough, they themselves surrendered to save their own ass until they were stood in court for war crimes.
And people say that Japan has a 'clean' history.

Your single platoon just took out a whopping 100 Soviet infantrymen, but can it take out the other 100,000 following close behind?
Sure ace, your BF109 just took down 7 Yaks, but what about the other 70 still in the air?
Surely at least the Kriegsmarine will obliterate the Russian Navy, right? Nope! It's still busy in the North Atlantic with the British and Americans!

My father. Was a mortarman with the 96th infantry division during the battle for Okinawa. He was hit by a place called Shuri Castle. His Rifle Company entered the battle with a complement of 212 men. 74 of them died and 135 were wounded from slightly to severely. The lines had to be filled with replacements, many of whom also fell. Every officer in the company died in the course of thtee months. At the end of the battle, the unit was led by a 2nd Lt from a supply unit and he led 34 men,all of whom were replacements. Everyone else, including every non com(sergeant, corporal, etc) was deceased or maimed They suffered 130 percent casualties. Every single guy in the original complement fell. My father walked with a severe limp,palsy,90 percent hearing loss, bad feet, metal lodged in his leg and back and arm, brain damage, severe forgetfullness, and bouts of melancholy and anger. Waking up in the dead of night screaming about bodies being on top of him. However,he worked for 50 years, raised three kids, loved my mother, took us fishing, and was a wonderful man. he went to his reward in 2015 at the age of 90. he was 20 when he survived this. good man,and I miss him dearly.

I'm not saying pacific theater is worse than Europe just because of this film. Why I think pacific is worse is the enemy. At least america and germany have both western culture and thoughts. Of course the western front was intense and brutal but personally think not as pacific theater where you don't know enemys info and their weird inclination of not afraiding death. Anyway it's my personal opinion. And sorry for my bad English. It's not my first language :(

I remember watching this scene. I had such a mixed feeling.
"Nooo! Hollywood just had an epiphany! He can't die!"
But then I realized what the directors wanted to show.
War is hell. Bullets don't choose. Bullets don't give a fuck if you just had epiphany or not. War is a pure randomness. If it's your time it's your time.

I like how this battle actually shows the Japanese as formidable soldiers who actually get their job done. While I think the Pacific did a great job at portraying the war in the pacific, the one thing that and every movie usually doesn't show is when the Japanese would kick our assess I mean while they were tough in the Pacific we would always end up beating them before the episode was over, in this they are straight up driving us back, taking down a tone of our guys.

    • @noobster4779
      @noobster4779 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

banzai attacks were only ordered as a last ditch attack or if the target was of crucial importants. the japanese were geniuses in building defense networks and used them to great effect. The main problem and reason the japanease lost so many soldiere was that they were cut of from any supply. they had limited amount of everything do to beeing cut of. With time the defenders would become weaker do to ammo shortage on every weapons system. From a military stasndpoint it is better to Banzai charge your soldiers and take a few of them with you then to surrender to an enemy, who has no problem to supply an unlimited amout of wounded and prisoners.
If the japanease would have fought the soviets, that would have been a different story.
One other thing many forget is the fact that Okinawa and Iwojima couldnt be lost. They were the key to the japanease mainland. Most japanease sodliers knew the bombers would start from those Islands if lost and after the Horror of Tokyo beeing bombed they wouldnt give an inch of ground.
Many people also ignore the fact that the pacific Islands were only one front for the japanease. there main battle front was against the chinease. they also had a huge amount of soldiers in occupied teretorries and fought the british in Burma. there was also an army stationed in Manchuria to defend against a potential attack from the soviets. The japanease army was spread really thin around Asia, making the supplysituation even worth.
Now lets talk about the atomic bombs. There was no militaric reason to drop the bombs. Prior to the Bombs drop the soviets declared war on Japan, conquered Manchuria and broke the back of the japanease army stationed in china, cutting them of from all supply lines and basically rendering them useless in a potential defence of the japanise mainland. With that the japanease also lost all accsess to their ressources on the asian continent, making there war economy coming to a standstill. compared to previous bombings like the Bombing of Tokyo the atomic bombs didnt kill as many people as convienient bombing raids.
Next thing is that the japanease didnt surrender after Hiroshima, they surrendered after their main army was cut of from all hopes of defending Japan. After the Soviets attacked japan was nearly defensless.
Last the atomic bombs were never meant to target japan. they were build to be dropped on berlin.
The main reason the USA dropped those bombs was testing on a real live subjekt ( using a city never bombed before regardless of its military porpose ) and to make a power show to the Soviets, starting the cold war. And yes in my opinion the Atomic bombs were a war crime. Using live human subjects as a testing ground for weapons is the worst crime possible. The nazis tested weapons on real live subjects like soviet prisoners and jews too, but they were brannded as war criminals by the allied trials in Nürnberg. Why werent the US accust of the same thing? Is the law in the land of the free not the same for everybody?

I like these types of war films because they portray a more accurate picture of war. The Japanese were fearless and were willing to die for their country. They weren't stupid, it was planned. This scene in particular is great because there is no hero soldier saving the day. Team work and support of fellow men got these men out. War is terrible and will continue to evolve in cruelty.

2:25 - This is one of the biggest myths of the flamethrower. Gas tanks do not explode when you shoot them unless you are using incendiary or explosive ammunition. The tanks contained pressurized fuel and nitrogen. If you were a flamethrower carrier - you would be happy that you got hit in the tanks because you would merely be knocked over by the force of the pressurized liquid being released.

It wasn’t about the USA. It was about Desmond Doss, who just happened to be American. Also, the odds were very much in favour of the USA. They occupied every island in the Pacific except for Okinawa, they had naval and air superiority, they outnumbered the Japanese, and their technology was far better than those of the enemy. Remember that this was also 1945, and most of the best Axis soldiers had either been killed, wounded or captured. If the Japanese held off the assault on Okinawa, they would be destroyed by the next attack, probably against most of the allied countries. The Japanese army was dug in deep, but their territory shrank by the second, with Burma falling to the British, the Soviets invading Japan, and a lack of pilots

      @whatthe5269 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@PrimePyro Yeah, I'd think so too. If it was anywhere BUT japan. During the war, japanese army almost brainwashed their youths to think that suicide boming, and death marches were an honor. And to make matters worse, they even had tactics that FOCUSED on using soliders as one off bombs or meat shields, even when they knew it wouldn't work.
If there were ones(which rare) that didn't participate, they were forced or shot. I know not all of them were forced, but most of the majority did, or rather was eager to throw their lives away.
And the ones who were in command? Over fifty percent of the higher ups SURRENDERED.(And killed in court for war crimes, and in my case I'm glad thet died.)
There's a difference with choosing, and to be forced. And in Japan's case, it was soooo the latter.

That is actually a truth with modifications.
Imperial Japan dates back a long time. Way before WWII. And in the past the U.S. often supported Imperial Japan.
In the Russo-Japanese war in 1904-05 U.S. was one of the biggest monetary supporters of the Imperial Japanese war effort, along with U.K and Germany (who smartly supported both sides).
And U.S. wasnt the initial enemy of Japan. China was.
Japan had been fighting China for years when the U.S. started their oil boycot and feared that Imperial Japan would become too powerful a factor in the Pacific and threaten "Imperial" U.S. interests. In-directly forcing Japan to either stop the expansion or fight U.S.
But just like with Germany, U.S. likes democracy, money and a strong ally in thier zones of influence against the Communists and other threats to their interests. So yeah, they are close friends today. And why shouldnt they be :-)

They had that "Rambo" personality you talk about and lasted a 4 day gun fight with only 30 men a limited rifles and rounds. While they were completely surrounded. Yes they all mostly died but they went down swinging. How would you want your family know how you died? Begging for mercy or them knowing you were willing to give up your life doing your best to protect them.

SomeRedGuy See, there's more of that macho talking shit behind a comfortable computer screen. First of all: The fact is, no psychologically normal human being can be by default as badass brave as that. It takes training to form that trait of bravery that is the polar opposite of what is evolution-psychologically normal . Even the most badass soldier you see, if you put him in that situation fresh out of the recruiting station, he would 99 times out of 100 shit his pants and panic and crawl into a fetal position or refuse to move -- just like the rest of us. Second of all: What you just mentioned depends on further details. What I previously just said mostly depends on if it was a fight that, no matter how dangerous, we still had a means of retreat. It changes things when you're completely surrounded with no chance of surrender. When you're completely surrounded and about to be killed no matter what, then yes, you don't have to be Rambo to suddenly become the bravest motherfucker of all time -- because you literally have nothing to lose. Hell, I, and even your keyboard warrior self would probably be extremely brave. But that doesn't count because that's not what I was talking about. Back to the original point: in MOST combat scenarios, where there is an option of either escape or surrender, you and I would be the first to beg to surrender or to haul our asses out of their in a quick minute.
Most armies/squadrons do NOT do what you have described -- and what 99.9999999% of unrealistic keyboard warriors brag about needing and being able to do in every combat situation -- if their situation allows them to strategically retreat. If you're still too immature to understand the point that I'm making, then as a last resort just think of it this way: Strategic retreat does actually serve an actual purpose and is not just "cowardice" for all of you uninitiated wannabe military macho boys. That is pretty much the essence of why civilians don't understand war, especially when they claim that retreating is always wrong -- and especially when they claim that they would never retreat.

It’s not really known that actually the Japanese soldier’s ability exceeds the American’s. You can say so from the data below.
    Battle of Angaur
    Japanese: 1250 men...1191 deaths
    America: 21000 men...260 deaths
    Japan.....0.2 enemy deaths per man
    America.....0.06 enemy deaths per man
    Battle of Peleliu
    Japan: 10900soldiers, 17tanks, few aircrafts
    ...10695 deaths
    America: 54000soldiers,117tanks, 1800 aircrafts...2336 deaths
    Japan...0.21 enemy deaths per man
    America...0.19 enemy deaths per man
    Battle of Iwo Jima
    Japan: 22786 men...18375 deaths
    America: 110000 men...6821 deaths
    Japan...0.29 enemy deaths per man
    America...0.18 enemy deaths per man
+Japan had nearly 0 supply, fuel or weapons compared to America’s amount.
I respect the Japanese soldiers who fought in the pacific islands.

fjf sjdnx Unit 731, Rape of Nanking, treatment of POWs, you can say that the Nazis treated pows bad but that is extremely paled in Comparisons to the Japanese. Most Germans Atleast treated their POWs with some dignity while the Japanese in some instances splashed oil on pows and threw matches at them. Also forcing Japanese citizens into mass suicide. Banzai and kamikaze attacks. I suggest you watch a few videos on the Nanking massacre it is truly disturbing/disgusting. The Germans didn’t send waves of unarmed civilians at allied forces either.
