Before you reach 8.3-8.7, i recommend you to get the gepard this thing will be you're best backup no matter what and its incredibly cheap to spawn in battle and also get the bmp1 to replace the bulldog. Big problem is 8.3-9.0 literally has no lineup so if you really want to build lineup your best bet is to skip to 9.3 which is just fantastic!

I remember the pain of this BR and it felt like forever before I had a full 9.3 (which wasn't much easier). And I too sucked with the Marder. I tried and tried and tried but ended up using it more as an AA. From there for some reason 10.3 and 11.7 seemed to fly by. Perhaps it was simply because I was enjoying it more. 10.3 and up has less glass cannons. But that Leopard 1 being the glass cannon that it is does set up you for top tier play. The top tier style of play is so different that it literally feels like a different game. Now that I am done the German tree I find myself enjoying brawling it out at 3.3, 5.7, 6.0 and 6.7 A LOT. And I am better at these lower and mid tiers because top tier teaches you brutally and quickly to use terrain and cover. It's sounds obvious in hindsight. The pace is much slower but I just find it so much more enjoyable. I am not certain why. Perhaps it's the lack of top tier style CAS which can be annoying from time to time?! Perhaps it is getting nailed from 3km (but then it's fun to do that as well). Don't get me wrong I play my fair share of 2A7V, 2A6, 2PL, 2A6, 2 PSO and 2A4M and can have a blast doing it but there is just something about those WW2 era battles. Even the planes are so cool. maybe mixup ammo for leopard 1 APDS can be quite effetive under some cercumstances and often works better vs ERA covered tanks , also running low ammo ´really dont matter much in the leopard 1(they will 1 shot disable your tank most of the time anyways) , leopard 1 has to be played like a ligth tank, not an mbt. flank and spank, dont get hit/spotted in the first place. Dont go lemming places in unarmored tanks.
In my opinion in leopard 1 you should use apds as your main ammo and heat for longer ranges. Apds has much better velocity so its much easier to shoot. And apds doesnt care fences etc.

That BR jump has been giving me hell as well. It's pretty jarring going from the relatively well armored tiger II to the paper thin leo I. You really have to adapt your playstyle. I definitely think you're better than you give yourself credit for though.

The pros of german tanks is their gun depression and mobility and their powerful rounds. You don't have the best armour so you have to take that into account. Another thing is don't go for Soviet tanks' turret
the leopard 1 used to be a really good vehicle back when it was 7.3 but now its honestly horrible at 8.0 because of the uptiers. its 'good' mobility isnt that great compared to the stuff you face and almost everyone has stabilizers which means you wont get the first shot mot of the time.

The marder is ASS especially since 1. when it's not fully modded, the rounds for the autocannon don't do shit and 2. the missles got nerfed as well as being dogshit in the first place. There's no time to wait for a missle to hit with a vehicle that consists of an ammo rack in the entire turret area, and the missle does shit-all when it pens anyway. That's just HEAT based ammo in a nutshell. And that's just germany around 8.0-9.0...just HEATFS and missiles that don't do shit all while you're facing guys that can pen you anywhere and nuke you with either APHE or darts. This tier is so bad and FULL of uptiers that I just stuck to 6.7, and I'm like level 67...I rather started playing russia and america than keep grinding the unenjoyable crap that is germany. The only fun german BR's are like 3.7, 6.0 and 6.7, and that's all because of the panzer 4, tiger 1 and tiger 2H. Every other tank in this tree is shite besides top tier.
The BMP2 is wayy better than the Marder and prob a bit better than Bradley and at 8.7 you dont really need thermals so I would say it is a fair BR for it

Practice makes perfect man. You will get better trust me and just have fun. Look how spookston and oddballz do their videos. Alot of issues with warthunder is gaijin breaks the game,and vehicles. That leopard used have a stablizer. Then gaijin read some declassified russian report that was leaked by west Germany during the cold war saying the leo 1 had no stabilizer to fool the russkies. Boom bye bye stablizer. Gaijin is the biggest issue with WT. Believe me the M61 aphe round for the Sherman used to have 114mm of pen at 100yds. Then they changed it to 101mm at 100yds. Now it's 91mm ......FFS.

If you want to get better at the game I reccomend playing other nations like Britain, USA or USSR. germany is NOT a beginner-friendly nation in air and ground. this due to the fact that most german low- and midtier tanks/ planes have one particular advantage over other vehicles at their BR. In order to be successful with them you need to know how to exploit their special perks to your advantage. This requires you to understand each vehicles playstyle and to have a very good map-knowledge. USSR for example has very good vehicles that succeed in a lot of aspects at the same time, allowing you to play a bit less specialized.
@sleysyknockoutcity7175 belive it or not I have tried other nations. I'm 3.7 in UK, 2.3 in USA, 2.7 in USSR and 2.7 in Sweden. I do actively play these nations to try and improve, but I always come back to Germany because I like their tanks
@@D3m0n1c4t it was at a good place at around 7.7 but now its just under powered compared to what you face as most of the time it will be a uptier of some amount and the tanks you face will have armour against heat, your sabot rounds wont have enough pen either at times due to funky armour and "volumetric" effects.

German players may not have learned situational awareness, but I know I learned gunnery. You may flank me, but if you sit far off, you are doomed.

In m48 you should consider bringing some apcbc shells (M82). Even though it has less pen it has good explosive filler. Basically one shots if it pens.

Thats the biggest issue imo. I try to play begleitpanzer and end up at 10.3 vs high tier russia and im simply at a disadvantage

at first i sucked playing these too but its a big jump from 6.7 to 8.0 so thats why its difficult. Play with them and then it will be pretty easy
It has a br jump both there and at 10.3 straight up to 11.7...missing half of DDR tech tree...
I like how the marder a3 and the m2 bradley get thermals at 8.3 and the bmp2 is at 8.7

Don't play the HEAT-FS on the Leopard. The AP-DS is way better, because it has way higher velocity and does more damage because of the shrapnel.
