Video of Shootout Shows Suspect Firing Through Windshield at Pasadena Police

Pasadena, California - Pasadena police released dash cam and body camera footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting from May that shows a suspect firing at police after a chase ended in a crash. Officers attempted to pull over Lloyd Nelson, a San Diego resident who previously lived in Pasadena, on the afternoon of May 8 after he made an illegal U-turn in front of an officer on Colorado Boulevard, near Pasadena City College, and stopped the car in the middle of the roadway and exit the vehicle. Nelson re-entered the vehicle and the pursuit began. When Nelson refused to stop, officers followed him for about 20 minutes in the area on surface streets.
Investigators said officers terminated the pursuit at one point and had their chopper follow the car, but eventually they decided to reinitiate it. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Corson Street and Allen Avenue when Nelson slammed head-on into a Pasadena police SUV that was not involved in the chase, then opened fire on the police vehicle and exited the Mitsubishi and began firing at an officer, who had gotten out of the SUV and returned fire, striking Nelson. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene, while an officer who was struck by “friendly fire” in the leg was taken to a hospital, police said.

I really love this channel . No annoying voice over no annoying loud music no dramatic theatrics . Just honest uncensored police work .
I think it's the most important channel on TH-cam for these reasons. It shows the public real unedited footage and lets them draw their own conclusions. This channel isn't trying to manipulate or lie to you like the main stream media does every single day.
The runaway car's driver was 47-year-old Lloyd Nelson Jr. He was a former U.S. Marine and ex-police officer. No idea what triggered his weird suicidal and fatal gun battle with dozens of officers that day.

@@derp8575 - My guess is that he did want to attract the attention of the police... for the exact outcome that eventually happened. Some people have just had enough of living, but can't quite end it themselves. At least he had the decency to not take out a lot of innocent people in a movie theater or mall before hand, and then have his shootout with the cops.

This is why all the checking to see if any more cops had caught a bullet in the exchange. Usually, cops are mindful of their crossfire, but in this case it all happened way too fast; the questions the one cop asked the other cop was because he shot another officer.

They did de-escalate the situation. Rapidly with gun fire returned. "Suspect" (technically but video pretty much demonstrates he was a criminal) no longer a problem.
They should have sent in a social worker to talk with him.

@DeeJay1210 maybe if during a welfare check nobody would pull a gun on cops trying to see if they are okay or not they wouldn't go that way, I have literally never seen footage of police going to a welfare check for the sole reason of shooting the person there. Crossfire was unavoidable. Everyone shouting "they need better training" from their keyboard doesn't realize that real life sitiouns don't always give you the luxury of time when someone is already shooting at you.

J. B. I know a lot of officers that will disagree with you. Every situation is different and this is a good one where better training would have lowered the risk. But police officers without doubt need more training. Lots more. Most ‘good’ cops hate other cops because they agree with the stereotype that cops are hot heads. My dad has never used his weapons and has been in plenty of situations where it has been necessary. My brother, also a cop, has had to call on cops to calm down and allow the POSSIBILITY of deescalation.
You're right, middle view video @3:22 shows how the guy taking cover behind that middle police car get hit on the leg and even twitches as he falls down.
“Crossfire was unavoidable”..Tell that to the families of the officer or 3 that you accidentally kill while trying to take out the suspect. If you don’t have a clean shot, you don’t take the shot. End of story. Maneuver, get to cover, and let someone else take the shot. You don’t tunnel vision on the suspect and ignoring that 6 fellow officers standing right behind him

this officer deserves a fucking medal of honour. His driving was incredible, he plotted the route and went around the long way to cut him off, he then survived a suspect shooting point blank at his face through the windshield then he emptied a full mag into the dirtbag without a single member of the public being hurt. LEGEND!

Two quick observations
1. There are some assholes that desperately need to be removed from the gene pool
2. Pasadena PD is not suffering a manpower shortage.
I know this town, lived there for 40 years and that was just about every cop in the city right there. With the layout of the town how it is. You can get from one side to the other in minutes.
If this had been 20 years ago I might have personally know most of those cops, most I knew moved up in rank and retired

I mean we see so many of these situations where bullets Over-pen the suspect, pass through and strike a bystandard or another officer and they catch a bullet on accident. I ask this because my Father n law use to be on the LA Metropolitan division in the 80s and Early 90s. His wife always said that this was something she thought was ridiculous when her husband's department allowed him to carry a .40 S&W. She'd go on her rant that when officers switched to "point n click" glocks that she was afraid her husband wouldn't come home because of the change. That was right before they switched off of the old .38 special revolvers. In her opinion she thought the revolver was a bit better because a person had to really consider their actions before pulling the trigger.
@@donotcare330 I don’t have an opinion as I have no personal experience with the caliber. From what I’ve been told it’s a very fast and hot round. I think if over penetration is your concern you should look into the availability of fragmentable or soft nose hollow point ammunition.

I wish more people actually see these videos. Most people think majority of cop shootings are "unarmed black suspects", yet only 24% are actually black, and majority are people like this dude, holding a weapon and actually tryna kill a cop. Problem is people are desensitized to what's cops actually go through. Sure these incidents might happen rarely, but think about how many times cops have stopped a person before they were able to reach for their gun or weapon!

Incredibly dangerous, underpaid life and thank God for the good cops. Immediately after training and on the very first stop on a dark street alone as I approached a vehicle for a simple traffic violation, I would have had a heart attack before I made it to the driver side window. God bless the good cops that risk it all so the rest of us are mostly safe on the streets of the US.
