The really ridiculous thing about this whole chase is that it could have been stopped within the first five minutes of the video. The cops easily could have shot the tires on that van. Seems they could have gotten even closer to the van in order to block it in too.

Cops can't nor should they shoot at tires unless absolutely neccesary, and this situation wasn't one of them heres why; 1. The Bullet could easily miss it's mark (guns aren't as easy to aim as you may think) and ricochet 2. They were in a domestic area with people living in homes at the times he was cornered 3. Shooting a tire mid-pursuit has an incredibly low chance of hitting it's mark, as well as if it DID manage to hit it's mark, the car could spin out of control and hit pedestrians, other cars, a home, etc.

Update: The guy had a warrant out for parole violation. The owner of the truck has a go fund me started to replace his lost equipment he needs to work. The guy in the white vehicle was arrested (charges dropped) for obstruction. When told to get out of the way, he went to the back of his vehicle to get his family out.

I think the most egregious thing about this chase is the fact that they viciously slammed that innocent man into the ground, busted his nose, and arrested him. Meanwhile the perp gets paraded with tender care into a squad car while they waited on EMTs. Truly an LAPD moment.

How do you know his nose was busted. I didn’t see that. If it was I would consider that he had just been involved in a 2 car collision so I would not think the police caused it. Plus, I would more believe they had to hand cuff the car wreak victim for his own safety. I know some hot heads that if they were in that situation white rage would be driving them and they would have went straight and confronted the perpetrator. Maybe the officers were preventing that from happening. That makes more sense than to believe they pulled a car wreak victim out of a car, injure him and then hand cuff him for jail. The police officer that was behind his van, while he was parked, should be fired, because instead of pulling up even tighter to the back of his car, pushing him forward into the concrete pillar, so he couldn’t move to push the cop out of the way. The cop just sat there and let him keep pushing them now the guy escapes, and he’s back on the road.
I hope your empathy towards victims is not based on the loss of their possessions, which can be replaced quite easly but rather you carry about their health (from crashes) and mental state after they got robbed which can unfortunately be hard to regain when you've experienced traumatic experience. I do't know if the vehicle insurance that is required to have for all car owners is going to cover the cost of damages but i know the medical aid is very very overpriced there and can be a real long lasting issue for somebody who got in car crash caused by a maniac running from police. I hope the victims recover, both financially and most importantly get back to full health, both mental and physical.

As a guy who operates news helicopter camera let me tell ya the photographer is on point following this. So easy to lose a guy behind buildings and trees when they bail! Nice work!
Most of these news/police helicopters have a camera lock to follow a specific area or vehicle. Unless the helicopter has outdated camera system. If they lost a van/person from a helicopter point of view then that's just pure incompetence and stupidity. Lol
I do agree, they were on him the whole time no matter where he went at least they had eyes every time he got away...which prob did help them catch back up to him. But cops cant just barge through lights traffic and tight spots and go one way wrong way take cuts across sidewalks like this guy did wow...absolutely miracle no one got killed. What I can't get over is that he had moved to the passenger side of the truck before it even dawned on the cops to COVER THE FRIGGIN' PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRUCK! Also, once he was apprehended, in cuffs, in a cop car, really how many cops do you need standing around? Is there no other crime in SoCal that they anticipate for the rest of the evening? Don't they think it would be a good idea to get back to their regions so they're available in case there just might be more crime somewhere? Christ, there were multiple vehicles hit. Maybe they could go see if someone needs help. Apparently, it takes about 50 cops to put up yellow tape.

The really ridiculous thing about this whole chase is that it could have been stopped within the first five minutes of the video. The cops easily could have shot the tires on that van. Seems they could have gotten even closer to the van in order to block it in too.

Cops can't nor should they shoot at tires unless absolutely neccesary, and this situation wasn't one of them heres why;
1. The Bullet could easily miss it's mark (guns aren't as easy to aim as you may think) and ricochet
2. They were in a domestic area with people living in homes at the times he was cornered
3. Shooting a tire mid-pursuit has an incredibly low chance of hitting it's mark, as well as if it DID manage to hit it's mark, the car could spin out of control and hit pedestrians, other cars, a home, etc.
This dude literally played GTA in real life. Only thing that didn't happen was him pulling in a garage and repainting the car

Update: The guy had a warrant out for parole violation. The owner of the truck has a go fund me started to replace his lost equipment he needs to work. The guy in the white vehicle was arrested (charges dropped) for obstruction. When told to get out of the way, he went to the back of his vehicle to get his family out.
Thank you for the info on the guy at the end they arrested for what appeared as no apparent reason.

I think the most egregious thing about this chase is the fact that they viciously slammed that innocent man into the ground, busted his nose, and arrested him. Meanwhile the perp gets paraded with tender care into a squad car while they waited on EMTs. Truly an LAPD moment.

How do you know his nose was busted. I didn’t see that. If it was I would consider that he had just been involved in a 2 car collision so I would not think the police caused it. Plus, I would more believe they had to hand cuff the car wreak victim for his own safety. I know some hot heads that if they were in that situation white rage would be driving them and they would have went straight and confronted the perpetrator. Maybe the officers were preventing that from happening. That makes more sense than to believe they pulled a car wreak victim out of a car, injure him and then hand cuff him for jail. That sounds dumb.

The police officer that was behind his van, while he was parked, should be fired, because instead of pulling up even tighter to the back of his car, pushing him forward into the concrete pillar, so he couldn’t move to push the cop out of the way. The cop just sat there and let him keep pushing them now the guy escapes, and he’s back on the road.

I hope your empathy towards victims is not based on the loss of their possessions, which can be replaced quite easly but rather you carry about their health (from crashes) and mental state after they got robbed which can unfortunately be hard to regain when you've experienced traumatic experience. I do't know if the vehicle insurance that is required to have for all car owners is going to cover the cost of damages but i know the medical aid is very very overpriced there and can be a real long lasting issue for somebody who got in car crash caused by a maniac running from police. I hope the victims recover, both financially and most importantly get back to full health, both mental and physical.

a very impressive job by the announcer in the helicopter. Had to riff and announce live in real time for an hour and a half. Also, he had an incredibly good understanding of the geography and locales. If I ever get in a high speed chase... i want this guy commentating!

Their car pursuit protocols were written by liberal politicians who became too squeamish due to past pursuits that ended in too much mayhem and accidental civilian deaths and injuries...But yeah, you're right, when he jacked that van, the first responding cop should've (at least) shot the tires out when he was still pinned in...This would've gave the other responding cops an extra minute or two to arrive and *DEADED* the whole situation before it escalated into a *GTA VIDEO GAME!*

The cops where trying to get the driver to move out of the way because his position was in the line of fire. He was most likely not cooperating not knowing how serious this situation is. You can see after they cuffed him, all of the cops that was by his car cleared that area, they were not positioned there for the car thief, they where there to get that guy out of the way.

They are still being criticised for this poor performance that took the entire Police Department in their juristriction. Thankfully there were no fatalities, but the Lunatic Driver could have killed multiple people to reach his escape.

Most of these news/police helicopters have a camera lock to follow a specific area or vehicle. Unless the helicopter has outdated camera system. If they lost a van/person from a helicopter point of view then that's just pure incompetence and stupidity. Lol

Unfortunately durring this incident, one of the car victims got assaulted by the police because the police thought he was a suspect...
I do agree, they were on him the whole time no matter where he went at least they had eyes every time he got away...which prob did help them catch back up to him. But cops cant just barge through lights traffic and tight spots and go one way wrong way take cuts across sidewalks like this guy did wow...absolutely miracle no one got killed. I almost lost it seeing that dog under the van thought was gonna get squashed...then we never hear if the guy in jeep is ok..but the family fighting the guy when he broke the gate even they were ok. The work vehicle auto victims all got good amount on go fund me for anything their insurance did not cover and one even used some of it to help another victim whos car got damaged. Alot of people just have liability or high amount they have to pay off before the check covers it, plus the amount of work stuff they had. I mean of alllll the cars he passed he takes work vehicles??? The van was a refrigerator van and those are not easy to find.
Of course, the police can't find the BULLET they were each issued.

What I can't get over is that he had moved to the passenger side of the truck before it even dawned on the cops to COVER THE FRIGGIN' PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRUCK! Also, once he was apprehended, in cuffs, in a cop car, really how many cops do you need standing around? Is there no other crime in SoCal that they anticipate for the rest of the evening? Don't they think it would be a good idea to get back to their regions so they're available in case there just might be more crime somewhere? Christ, there were multiple vehicles hit. Maybe they could go see if someone needs help. Apparently, it takes about 50 cops to put up yellow tape.
The police are afraid to do their jobs because of how many previous cops have been abandoned and imprisoned for stopping situations like this before the got to this point. I say give the a public award an thank them for their service.

The fact is that the cops have been completely removed from decision making. They cannot take initiative. Any tactical move MUST be approved by a higher up in a response room before it can be executed, and of course the opportunity is gone by the time the decision gets made.
