Hi, My shift shaft keeps popping off the shift drum and jamming in 1st. Very frustrating as it's the end of a race day when it happens! Any idea what could be wrong? Could I bend the end of the shift shaft to be a tighter fit onto the drum?
Thanks heaps mate your a legend having to rebuild my 02 cr250 engine and when I pulled this part off yep the springs flew out and I was like shit where’d this go . Problem solved 🤙🏻
Good videos mate... I have a little problem hope can you help help me. I have a motor Cr 250cc 2001 and I want to apply in my Cr 250 1999 chassi..Can I do it? Thank you...
Hi. I can move my shiftershaft 3 mm in and out. In this video i ve seen how the system works and I assume is a bit the same as my cr 250 engine(1990). Do you know what can cause the movement of the shaft?. As far as i've seen there is no thing that blocks the axial movement and holds the shaft in place. T.i.a. Gr. Pim
The shift shaft is held in place by the crank case cover and the shift lever, but 3mm is a lot of play. It sounds like your crank case it worn, or your shift lever isn't tight against the case.
Do you think this could be my issue? My 1995 CR250 shifter lever sometimes sticks up and does not allow the bike to go into third. When the engine warms up it falls back down and then things are fine.
It could be your external shift linkage is worn, but I would bet your internal shift drum is worn out. Do the service on your external and see if you get lucky! Let me know if you need any help!
Fix Your Dirt Bike do you mean internal shift drum that is inside the case? Which means I would have to split the case or shift drum in the linkage? I will finish the inspection , grease the shaft and see how it goes tonight.
Hey, thanks for this great video (even though it's been five years!) I just have a question pertaining to the linkage. I'm doing a bottom end and when I put the cases together the transmission shifted perfectly up until the point I put together the linkage. Before, I could even shift by spinning the outer part of the drum by using a T-handle on the bolt that holds the drum pieces together. As soon as I put the linkage in and put the shifter on, it became really hard to shift, it wouldn't click out of first, even with some force and spinning the mainshaft. Just wondering if it's normally pretty hard to shift at this stage given all the moving parts? I just can't get it to click out even with some wiggling and reassembling the linkage five times. I'm pretty sure I'm overthinking it but just wondering. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi I know this video has been out for awhile but I am having issues with my shifting too. The transmission shifting very smoothly through all of the gears while we had the crank cases open but once we put the shift linkage on shifting got really hard. Along with the hard shifting it no longer goes into 6th gear because the lever will not return. Do you know what I can do to fix this?
@@Fixyourdirtbike yea it ran through all the gears before the external linkage was installed. I’m thinking we may have done something completely wrong or put in a bad part. Or a mix of both

Hey john after reassembling my cases (crank rebuild) and doing the steps listed here I can only shift once before it won't completely shift into the next gear. Any suggestions? My only guess is the shift forks are in wrong but I really don't want to split the cases right after finally pressing them.

No Plini, it was Angel Vivaldi. I'll checkout The Armstrong Limit! Glad I could help!

Do you need to drain your transmission oil for this...
Yes, the right crankcase cover needs to come off, so you will need to drain the oil.
Oof thanks tho

Thanks for watching! You should be able to run your 2001 engine in your 1999 frame without modifying the frame.

My shifter shaft moves in and out like 3/16" and leaks after I replaced seal any ideas ?
Does the shift shaft move with the right crankcase cover installed?

I would check that the pawls are engaging the drum freely and not binding on the guide. I've had that happen before.
John what's the deal with all the audio cutouts
It looks like I got a copyright strike for music and it was removed with a bunch of dialogue.

Did you put your bike in gear before you installed the guide plate? Also, are you trying to shift while riding or with you bike on the stand?
+Fix Your Dirt Bike Possibly not.. would that cause actual damage? and the engine is removed from the bike with the top end off. thanks
+Spencer Flaherty there shouldn't be any damage.
+Spencer Flaherty was that the problem?
I'm shooting you an email, thanks for the follow up
