I have a great deal of respect for the Amish and their customs. However, I can't ever get over how they puppymill and overbreed neglected dogs for money. That seems like a bigger crime to me than having electricity.

I recently saw a documentary on that. Very disturbing. The Bible tells us to be kind to animals.
      Proverbs 12:10 ESV
Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.
They aren't too keen to preach even though they are told to in the Bible:
Matthew 28:19 (NIV)19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Out of deep respect for their religion, I attempted to give a contribution to their church and was told that they could not accept it because I am not of their religion even though I revealed that I have accepted Jesus as Lord and savior. But his deacon told him to give me back my ten dollars. Well, gee! That sure doesn't stop them from accepting my money for their products though-does it?.
Then, when I conversed decently with a young Amish lady and asked about how they processed their chickens. She said she feels nauseous if assigned to chop off their heads.Trying to be helpful, I suggested that she tell the people in charge about her symptoms so they could assign her to something else. She immediately looked extremely offended. Then she spread the lie that I had told her to leave the Amish religion.
      Proverbs 3:30 ►NIV
Do not accuse anyone for no reason-- when they have done you no harm.
Now many Amish women working behind the counters give me an intense suspicious look, the cold shoulder and start to walk away at my approach. Seems like they should teach their kids that defamation is a sin.
If this continues I will take the matter to their deacon. After all, if indeed he is their shepherd, then he should be aware that certain members of his flock are spreading lies about an innocent person and that definitely is not in harmony with being like Christ. If indeed I had suggested that, then OK. But I definitely did NOT. Christians must always be careful that they are not unwittingly imitating the Devil instead of Christ.
      Mark 9:42 ►
"If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.
      John 8:44
      New International Version
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

This is exactly how the Lancaster Central Market started, which is the oldest running Amish market since 1930. We were just there Easter weekend. Even one of the best restaurants in Pennsylvania had a stand there ~ The Shady Maple. I love how everyone comes together and sells their fresh produce. Here’s our family video visiting the market. th-cam.com/video/goQ9BIc4F64/w-d-xo.html

My ancestors were among the first immigrants in 1724. My family history has been documented in print form since that time.I am not amish but my great grandparents were. The best food without question in the US is here.

When ever I drive on Route 30 I always see the Amish using a bike but never pedaling. That rule seems so foolish. Is there a ruler that God said "though shall not pedal bicycles? If some Amash man made up this rule, its a crazy to follow it!

You do know you do not supposed to take pictures of them that is very rude because you do not have their permission

The Amish don’t like to be photographed or videotaped. They consider it making a graven image of themselves. Maybe next time you can respect that.

My Grandma lived not so far from Lancaster. Been to the Farmers Market many times. Most beautiful produce and handwork, i.e. quilts etc. wonderful deli meats and food. Grandma is gone now so I doubt I'll ever be back to PA.

From what I learned, the Amish people don't like being on video or having their pics taken.

    • @radrook4481

They aren't supposed to ride in cars or use modern appliances either but when it comes to making a buck, then they sure as hell cut themselves a lot of slack. They arrive and leave in cars at the Broad Street Market in Harrisburg PA four times a week not buggies, at the market four times a week. They also use blenders, modern ovens to process their foods.
Also, if they indeed are averse to photos and videos, then why do I find them photographed on the Internet and on many videos on youtube?

Renninger's Market in Pennsylvania was the one closest to where I grew up in northeast PA. It was open every Wednesday and featured Amish/Penn Dutchy farmers selling produce. There was also an auction. The candy section was second to none, most of it homemade (fudge, etc.). When I was last home on a visit, it was the one place where I could find stamped embroidery linens of all sorts at a fraction of what one would pay in a craft store (if you can even find them).

If i hear cxorrect I can hear a lady (guess the old one) say something like "A water melon" and then a man (maybe the seller) said "a melon". So maybe the wife paid for the melon and the old man took it :-)

I love the description... 'Amish/Mennonites Farmers Market' as if it is there just because of or for the Amish and Mennonites. It would be like going to a mall in a place where a lot of African Americans live and saying it's an African American mall. It's silly. People work and shop at the Green dragon because they live near it; not because of their culture or religious beliefs.
