    I took my kids there several times. Once we stayed in a B&B run by an elderly Mennonite couple. It was one of my best get away memories! Everything from the food (fresh, simple and absolutely delicious) to the countryside to the lifestyle is so simple and peaceful. We loved it.

    I had mentioned the Cafe' at the Weaver Store in Fivepointville in an earlier message. Another nice local spot is the Black Forest Brewery on Rte. 322 on the western end of Ephrata. It is associated with the 1777 Americana Bed and Breakfast. They brew their own craft beers and have a nice small menu. Shrimp tacos are great!

    Very comprehensive video! I agree about driving around. One route that I like is PA 772, which goes from Gap to Marietta. It hits a lot of these tourist stops but has little traffic and shows this area's natural beauty. It's very windy so not a place to rush! I like it all the way to Mount Joy and Marietta, which is a great village on the Susquehanna with a lot of historic homes.

    • @ElleLiving
      @ElleLiving  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes a LOT of places are closed on Sunday in Lancaster! It’s a great day to drive around 😀 there are some open on Sunday. I have 2 videos on what there is to do on Sundays in Lancaster and where there is to eat. And I always try to encourage people to check websites before you head somewhere just to be sure they are open.
      Actually all the markets in Lancaster have their own schedule and are not open every day. Bird in Hand Market also changes their days seasonally. So summer to early Fall is when they are open the most, then they taper off.

      @ElleLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! Hello Australia 🇦🇺!! How exciting that you are headed to Lancaster soon! I hope you enjoy your big trip 🥰☺️👍 You are asking a tough question 😆 bc there is so much awesomeness in Lancaster. However, I do suggest to any 1st timer to learn about the Amish of Lancaster (it is the original settlement in the USA!). You can do that by going to any of the Amish tourist areas like The Amish Farm and House or the Amish Experience or the Amish Village. Or you could have a meal with an Amish Family in their home as a more personal experience and they encourage you to ask questions. So that’s what I recommend as a must do :) I personally LOVE a Buggy ride tour and you still learn a lot about the Amish and the area that way. And you will need to eat so definitely try one of the several amazing restaurants that offer delicious local fare 😊👍. Let me know how it goes! Would love to hear about your trip 😍

    In your opinion---which is the best tour to experience the Amish way of life---my family and I have never been to the Amish country---we were trying to decide between Berlin, Ohio, or Lancaster---I have noticed through some of the info videos that Lanacster has more amish tours than Berlin--- in fact, I didn't find any Amish farm tours in Berlin??? Thanks for sharing

      There are a LOT of Amish tours in Lancaster 👍. I know nothing about the tourism industry of Berlin, OH. I do know that Lancaster was the original Amish settlement in the USA, so there is a lot of history.
      And in my humble opinion I would suggest a private tour at Old Windmill Farm or a meal with an Amish Family. Both of these offerings would last about 2 hours and you get up close and personal with the Amish. If you use any other questions, please let me know! How exciting that you 2 are going for the first time!

    You are so lovely and my wife and I enjoyed the work you put in to this video but we had a really tough time understanding your narration. Slow down and annunciate your words more clearly. No need to rush through your narrative…blessings to you!

    looking for places to stay recommendations

    • @ElleLiving
      @ElleLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there 😊👋 I have a few videos on some lodging review on my channel - they are under “The Lovely Lodging of Lancaster” playlist. As far as my personal recommendation, it depends on what you are looking for and who you are traveling with. If you want to have a wonderful stay at a very family friendly place with fun things to do, I would recommend “The Bird-in-Hand Family Inn”. I love it there for it’s comfort but also it’s surroundings. If you want something smack dab in the middle of Amish country that is extremely quiet, Harvest Drive Family. 3 more that are pretty special in Lancaster are Amish View Inn and Suites which is a really nice hotel with tourist stuff on property; Hershey Farm Inn which has a terrific restaurant on property and is next to Sight n Sound; also, Fulton Steamboat Inn has a lot to character and is in the middle of Lancaster so to speak so a quick drive to many places. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions 👍👍😊😊 Hope you have a great trip!

      Shady Maple is still going strong 😊👍. We were just there in July and the place was booming! You may be thinking of Good n Plenty which is permanently closed 😕😢

    • @ElleLiving
      @ElleLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      James that is a difficult question 😂😆🤪!! My first thought is eat 😋 and my 2nd is to drive around and take in the scenery. Learning about the Amish via a tour is a great idea for 1st timers too!

    What the difference between Mennonite and Amish? This is my first time going to Lancaster

    • @ElleLiving
      @ElleLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m going to try to put a link here to a great resource for all things Lancaster. It’s the website Discover Lancaster and they have tons of articles. Let’s see if this will work www.discoverlancaster.com/blog/difference-between-amish-and-mennonite/
      The answer is as detailed as you want it to be. The Amish were actually a breakaway from the Mennonites and many followed him over his stricter beliefs of how to deal with sin. Currently however, the noticeable differences is the Amish are more strict with their lifestyle as far as being “Plain” and not connecting with the world via the electricity grid (they use other sources for power) and the Amish also don’t use automobiles. They dress very old school. They are the ones w the black undertones so to speak. The Mennonites are more linked with the world as in the drive cars, use electricity and other technology. They are a less strict group of people in the way they live and practice but still very conservative in comparison with “worldly” standards. Hope that helps. The Amish have really stuck with traditions.

      Yeah it was already such a long video that I kept it at a general level of knowledge to hopefully set people up towards a helpful path to planning. When I do individual reviews, I am more specific and include maps and such. If I would have mapped out every place on this video it would have been almost twice as long ☺️😆👍

    Does Shady Maple have whoopie pies?

    • @ElleLiving
      @ElleLiving  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sooo I know they sell them at their bakery stand (in the restaurant area) and also in their grocery across the parking lot BUT I’m not positive they have them as part of their dessert buffet. I think they switch out what they offer on the buffet and I know they always have certain desserts like shoo-fly pie and apple crumb and many more pies. But honestly I’m not sure if they always have whoopie pies as part of their dessert buffet. 🤔🤔

      Francis, I messaged Shady Maple when you asked me this. I just heard back from them - they say they usually do have whoopie pies on the buffet 👍
