- Disney Princesses as Taylor Swift Songs
Hello and welcome to The Trove!
This one's a little different, but it's a fun one! I've been wanting to make some content involving the Disney Princesses, but a basic ranking didn't seem all that worthwhile, so I decided to shake it up by involving the ever-popular Taylor Swift. I'm a long-time listener of her music, and since Midnights came out I've been on a bit of a kick, so it felt like a good time to incorporate her. I did my best to match each Disney Princess with their very own track from Swift's discography.

Good picks! Here are some additionals that could work:
Jasmine: Lavender Haze (wants to stay in romance haze with Aladdin and doesn’t want to answer to society’s marital expectations for her)
Aurora: When Emma falls in love
(Much of what we see with Aurora’s character is falling head over heels for Phillip and her symptoms are similar to the girl Emma in the song)
Ariel: You Belong With Me (Ariel is trying to win over Eric without a voice and in competition with this idea Eric has of who his dream girl is - the girl with the voice)
Belle: Ours (Belle, like the girl in this song, is in a relationship with someone who is rejected by society for petty reasons and like the girl in the song, she sticks up for him and tells him that their love is their own and not for society to judge)
Tiana: Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince (besides the fact that Tiana is the only American Disney Princess, she spends the film trying to get back to her American dream of opening her restaurant in the midst of all the chaos going on around her, the judgment of other people, and major setbacks)
Merida: Anti-Hero (you kind of dislike Merida as a person throughout the film but you still root for her. She’s the hero in a sense but is very flawed unlike how most Disney princesses are portrayed).
Mulan: The Great War (Mulan has to earn the trust of the men around her who have been influenced by previous cuts of war and infused by societal gender expectations)
I’m very late to this, but I love the choice for Tiana so much. “My team is losing, battered and bruising. I see the high fives between the bad guys” so strongly ties to the historical context too and the micro-aggressions of the guys she’s trying to buy from. “A woman of your background would have her hands full trying to run a business like that.” What a great choice for her!

This video is absolute perfection and all your songs to Princess match ups are spot on! Picking a 1989 song for Ariel has layers of brilliance to it because not only is the song you picked perfect for Ariel but also because 1989 is the year Ariel debuted, Taylor was born and I think Ariel is Taylor's fave Disney Princess and seeing as 1989 was Taylor exploring new territory with a new genre it mirrors Disney doing something new with Ariel as she broke the Disney Princess mould. Ariel in 1989 changed the game for Disney and was such a successful and ground-breaking achievement which can be said about the 1989 album for Taylor! Amazing video, I love it so much! 💚💛💜❤💙🖤💗🤍🤎💙💿🎶
Excellent analysis! I have to admit, I didn't even realize when I made the pairing that 1989 was a connection to the year The Little Mermaid came out, but it makes me even more confident in my pick now!
I really love how much thought you put into each of these song choices. I don’t know a lot of these songs, since I mainly listen to Taylor Swift’s older songs, but your explanations of them and why they match each princess are so well explained that me not knowing them doesn’t matter.

It's a very small detail and nothing to do with the lyrics, but the fact Aurora's name is after "the first light of the morning", and then her song is Daylight ❤
Yes ! Aurora's parents named her after the Roman Goddess of the Dawn for filling their lives with sunshine 💓 I love this choice

alternatives that i always thought of were begin again for anna, today was a fairytale for rapunzel, lately i've been thinking of elsa for you're on your own kid and even though she's not a princess, i always think of alice when i listen to wonderland haha 😭 how could you not!
I'm so glad! I wasn't sure if any of my regular viewers were into her music. I love the other options you mentioned! I actually was considering Begin Again for Anna at one point. And I love You're On Your Own Kid for Elsa. If Alice was a princess, Wonderland would be the clear choice haha.
Wildest Dreams fits both snow snow and Cindy, Enchanted is more Ariel, and Cindy should actually be Bejeweled bc the mv is Cinderella themed
I've never seen a video like this! It's so good! Honestly, it's been awhile since I've listened to any Taylor Swift song. But I think your selections for each princess is great! I especially like the song for Tiana because she changed her heart to love like her father did. All she needed to do was dig into her heart and see that her true love was in front of her. Great video!

I think back to December sorta matches Elsa in some ways as well.
I really love this video, despite I’m not really a Swifty lol. I think Enchanted would’ve fit Pocahontas too, mainly because realistically Pocahontas and John Smith are complete opposites in so many ways, specifically their backgrounds and their beliefs, but none of that mattered when they first saw each other at the falls. I also think the night time reference is kinda fitting considering part of Colors of the Wind includes a constellation and later on their love song If I Never Knew You takes place at night. You could even include “please don’t be in love with someone else” as a nod of Pocahontas being expected to marry someone she doesn’t love, and unfortunately Kocuom is deeply hurt seeing her love another man. I know you’ve made your opinions about them as a couple before, but personally I think them being a forbidden romance just makes them a lot better than certain couples much more popular than them. As you said, they knew from the start their love would never be allowed and both their peoples wouldn’t understand, but that didn’t prevent them from falling in love as they got to know each other better and they learned valuable lessons from the other. But anyway, I find your choices nice (also we don’t talk about Pocahontas 2 lol) what would your choices be for Esmerelda, Meg and Jane?

Good question! I'm not positive what the best match is, but right now I'm thinking either A Place in This World or The Outside from Taylor's first album.
