Hi Justin, If your comments about self-loathing are true, then please work on this - genuinely, as it can only help you and therefore your work. Lots of ❤
since i've started working from home and listening to your show, My 19 year old African Grey, Sasha has started talking! She was mostly a whistler and noisemaker prior to this, but now she is trying to talk. If i stop the playback, she shuts up. Don't know what phenomenon this is, but it's pretty fu*kin' awesome. Love the show, man!
God I f**king love u!!! Ur honesty ur Rawness ur down to earth vibe .. and well I’ve loved u for 20+ years .. love love love !!!!!!!!!!! Seen u twice in Cardiff and Bristol… amazing !! ❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉
The La Dolce Vita is still to this day my all time favourite JHRA episode, it always makes me laugh like a fool and to me that is pure gold and I thank you for it Justin ❤❤❤
Your channel is Badass, Dude. Your honesty and sense of humor are brilliant. TBH I had never heard of you or your music until I found this channel. Keep it coming. 🤘
I'm glad Jenny May convinced you to do this show! You really are a natural and I've learned about so much new music. Perfectly complements my Darkness obsession.... (I need to find the Dolce Vita episode now. That's one I missed...)
Love you and your podcasts, so down to earth with a sharp and witty sense of humour and great insight. Love the long form and so impressed by the guitar playing 🤘❤️
You are so charismatic and well spoken! Really enjoy the channel. I remember seeing you on screen for the first time when I was a teenager (watching MTV in America) - I was like wtf is this, I love it! The Darkness was very special for me growing up in a small town mostly hearing country music. (Still love classic OLD school country too)
I often find the videos with fewer views to be my favourites. They might not be mainstream, but it's like fancy posh food...catering for the more sophisticated palate. TH-cam truffles, if you will.
Don't know why people watch/listen to the 1000's of other channels talking/reacting to music, when those people have no music talent. Especially at Justin's level. Love the work Jenny May and Justin.
I have just been to your show in Hamburg. It was great, thank you all for that. I love you 5 times is such a beautiful song. It is like an exuberant ode to love, straight from the heart and true to the moment. I also feel sadness and loss, listening to this song. But like you, I am not 25 anymore.
It has been such a joy as an aspiring musician to find your channel Justin. You’ve helped me learn a lot about dynamics and what makes our favorite music good. I thank you my friend, dearly hope to meet you one day and thank you in person!
Really enjoyed the Rocumentary film last night. Its a shame that it's likely not to be watched by the masses, as it will be perceived for just Darkness fans, or at least rock fans. But it is a beautiful fly on the world documentary that just so happens to follow the Darkness's story, but depics "life" situations. I will be purchasing the blue-ray disc and encouraging all of my friends and family to watch it. Thanks The Darkness &especially Justin
Justin I took your first album to Thailand and educated a load of American and UK rock loving ex-pats... They couldn't get over your falsetto, just amazing and makes me laugh to this day! 🙏
WRT touring, I worked on the road for about 34 years. I'm in the middle with you and your brother. He looks at it as a holiday whereas you look at it like work. I treated it like a working vacation. Put my 10-12 hours in, then went sight seeing, fishing, skiing, museums or whatever was available and what we were allowed to do with a company vehicle. As always, I enjoy your videos. Thanks for the good work.
I'm amazed you're surprised people would watch, Jus... Why wouldn't we?! Your experience, insight, knowledge, things you teach us, your personality, sense of humour etc all naturally attract us and draw us in. Don't be so harsh on yourself man! ❤ Also self deprecation could suffice where the songwriting comes in without having to be self-loathing!
As Poe put it, " I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity." Seems to be how you describe touring and I Get it. I am gearing up for a convention that is half a year away because for a couple days I get to be Not Me and it's gonna rule.
Lucky me saw this within 38 seconds, yay! Woo, Like #1 for me, woo, woo! I Love You Justin, and the Q&A is a favorite of mine, love learning more bout your views and history!
Greetings Justin! I enjoy listening to your podcast and agree that this is a great format for you. I traveled to Berlin (from Brno, CZ) for my 40th birthday to finally see The Darkness in concert. You guys were amazing (and so very well dressed), and your voice is as impressive as ever! You mentioned the gift of connecting with fans, and I can say that this concert was the best gift I could have given myself (along with a guitar pick of yours that I caught early in the concert!). I'm still hyped up from it! All the best!
Thanks for answering my question Justin. Your description of touring reminded me of spending a week in Japanese Zen temple, where I just lived at the pace of the temple, doing chores, preparing food, chopping wood, meditating, eating and sleeping and all that not decided by me. Surrendering control was very liberating. for your spiritual question, I have found that most people who say they are spiritual still carry a lot of ego (be it the identification with a higher class of spiritual people) and I loved your answer. And I believe (I do have a great memory) that Frankie was the one who told you “never trust a hippie” (a male one anyway). 😊
Fifteen years ago I undertook some cabling work at a new wing of a "mental health facility". Previous to that, I had undertaken similar work at six new prison wings and two sixty bed prison units. The tradies and tech folks would have philosophical discussions about infrastructure, our hard earned tax dollars, governmental spending and those whom would one day be housed in those accommodations. For me, looking back, I suppose working on those sites was like being at some zen temple in a foreign land. And, of course, the incentive of earning good money always encourages inner harmony.😊
Early subscriber to the channel. Jenny May was right. This format suits you. I have been a fan of The Cult since Love then went back and discovered their earlier iterations. Death Cult tour dates in 2023. Oh hell yes!! Great inspiration.
Did you say you were too UGLY my dear? Perish the thought!!! You are ADORABLE and charismatic !! Much love and HOPE to see you AGAIN in the US ( can't make it to the UK in Spring) Much love from your 59 year old NYC groupie!! PS Do you do YOGA?? The headstand move had my mouth on the floor!
I had no idea who you were and quite frankly the darkness wasn't my cup of tea. But I freaking love you dude! I thank Ren Gill. Last year I became obsessed with watching Ren reaction videos...and along the way discovered many cool channels...I might even give your music another go. Hahahaha.
Question for next comments day! Justin, I've been in several bands over the years (all small-time acts), but have been fronting a band for the last few years that has actually garnered a bit of favor in the local and surrounding areas. However, I have a diagnosed debilitating depression disorder that renders me unable to leave my room, let alone perform. I was hoping you might have some advice in regard to 'powering on' when I'm in the midst of whatever crises is at hand? I can't manage to get out of bed, how do I find the resolve to perform? I truly adore you, and love your channel and music! I can't begin to express my gratitude!
Hallo Justin... First, I want to tell you how much you guys amazed me last Wednesday in Hamburg's Markthalle. I was thrilled to whiteness the permission to land, again Tour myself. Congratulations on two years! Your work and progress on this channel is nothing short of phenomenal and your are really resonating with your audience judging from the responses. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I have watched your crowd work live and I think your Justin Hawkins Rides Again Live will be brilliant. If still lived in England I would attend more than one show I am sure. Thank you for coming to SF two years in a row by the way, we LOVED both shows. Aww, that is sad that you thought you were too ugly to be a pop star! UM sorry, NO! ; ) Thanks for following your inner rock star. I hope you stay well and happy.
“Too ugly”? That has to be an image disorder, like dysmorphia, possibly because he didn’t feel confident before he got his teeth straightened? I can list hundreds of actually ugly rock stars, starting with Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, and Iggy Pop.
Love thise series for introducing me to new music and also talkinh about things like addiction and what not as its helped me cut down on what i drink and cut out other things
I was watching Justin's videos. Well a particular video. First time seeing his channel and just giving it a try. In that video he was talking about Post Malone doing a cover of Them Bones and Justin said if you are going to sing out of tune then be sharp. It just hit me as som of the best advice Ive ever heard. I mean Robert Plant made a career out of it and Ive never heard anyone kinda say hey you can do that. Its just a small little piece of advice but it resonated with me and I subscribed and have been watching many of his past videos. Such a great channel :) I'd love for you to answer this question for comments day in the next one Have you met any celebs that are a huge fan of The Darkness ?
For Next Comments Day: Do you ever create an amazing riff or song and then when the only lyrics that come to you are silly, do you ever stop and think: "No, this is too good to be daft with, I should do this one properly, say something resonant, cause the music is too good to make into something funny." Do you ever have that inner debate?
Regarding the extra effort put in and the way the engagement doesn't seem proportional; I have noticed after WAY too much of my life wasted watching youtube, that the audience by and large who don't gravitate toward the big channels that youtube pushes, really appreciate authenticity. It really is like the indy music scene in that way. The more rough and tumble your channel aesthetic is, the better most will respond to it. Whenever you might make some effort toward production value or simply effort toward anything that isn't directly related to your chosen craft, you will always lose people who will consider you, to coin a term from my youth, to be selling out or just a poseur all along, and tune out.

The same Jenny May Finn that enabled Russell Brand?

The Dolce Vita episode is a master expose on the dangers of creepers filming Commercial videos with unsuspecting civilians
I loved the Dolce Vida episode!

Well I woke up this morning and I didn't feel a need to listen to the new Beatles song. In fact I barely played it. Just so so.

Self Deprecating is Self Loathing its what you think when you remove your clothing!
