It's so great to see you home! Welcome back! Oh man, I LOVED this video today. Not only because you're hilarious as always (honestly, you're so funny, I was bloody cry laughing). Your insight into the music biz from the other side was so interesting. Especially to hear your side as a songwriter's perspective. I used to work for APRA here in Australia for six years (Australasian Performing Right Association) and my job was in licensing events (collecting setlists to divvy up royalties on festival sets) and venues and trying to explain all of this to venues and festival people about songwriter royalty rights was often met with disdain. (Ere, why do I have to pay a licence, when I'm already paying the artist? type conversations). I wish I had this video at the time. It would have save me a lot of energy and they would have been beguiled by your charm! Money-in-the-bank! Another fab video, Justin and welcome home!
Thank you for sharing the inside scoop honestly, hilariously, and timely! My dad, as sweet as he is, just sent me the Panda Express commercial the other day 😂 Now we get the backstory!! By the way, IBIATCL is timeless - we'll never forget it was voted #1 Song of the 21st Century by Classic Rock readers!!
This is not boring, it's informative. I think this helps up incoming artist and fans to understand how synchronisation works. BTW "I believe in a thing called love" WAS, IS & ALWAYS WILL BE ICONIC BECAUSE OF YOU JUSTIN HAWKINS!
Having a worldwide hit like that is quite an achievement. You deserve accolades for your music, but it’s even better that you’re a really nice guy. Good things do happen to good people!
Justin, you might never read this, but your video/channel popped up as sheer synchronicity. As I watch you, I’ve been adapting a play from a short story I wrote last year. The sections are named after my favorite songs from 2003-04, though in a way it’s a playlist for my readers to feel the zeitgeist. The climax is titled: I Believe in a Thing Called Love. And the working title of the play is, you guessed it: I Believe in a Thing Called Love. My respect and admiration for you has grown exponentially thanks to your channel. You rock!!!
Rabbit hole: The Panda Express ad using "I Believe In A Thing Called Love". I heard the song, had a vague recollection of "I Believe in a Thing Called Love", and suddenly remembered how fantastic it was. I started a Google search to find the original and The Charismatic Voice review popped up first. LOL! Got distracted by watching that, and as I looked to the sidebar, I found JHRA responding to it. I've stayed in the rabbit hole ever since. These two are my fave channels. I'll never miss another update again. 💜💜
Your intellectual property lesson on synchronization was fabulous and only surpassed by your analyses!! 😂 This has got to be one of my very favorite of your videos (hubby is yelling at me for laughing too loudly): long live Justin and the Darkness!!
16:46 I think they actually like the song but are envious for not having been able to written it themselves...so I would say to them 16:53 🤣 If only I could have said that same expression (18:38) today...you cheered me up!!! It's healthy sometimes to let the anger flow...😊👍 Nice one!🥰
I actually work in advertising and he’s bang on, it is a very long winded process when it comes to music usage in adverts. And a very very expensive one at that. Sometimes we even rework songs so that we can have further control over how it sounds. To give you an idea of how much this costs, we once used a pretty famous train related song from a group of brothers and it cost us about £110k per year!
The Darkness came at a time when there was absolutely no one else doing anything remotely like it. Brilliant stuff. Me and my best mate had Permission to Land on repeat in the car, absolutely loved it, still do. When you do something unique, you stand out, it makes you an easy target. Fuck the haters, you guys rock and that song is a genuine classic. Good on you Justin, its great to find out you are a genuine, lovely guy as well as having an incredible voice and presence as a performer. 😊🤘
"Ritchie Tombola & The Gemineyes" I'm having that one!! 😂 EDIT: Just as an aside, I sang IBIATCL at my mum's 50th birthday party, and absolutely NAILED IT! Of course, I was pretty drunk at the time, but I was told the next day that it totally turned the night around, and since my mum passed two years ago its been something I've been quite happy to have done, to completely ridiculed myself in a pub for my family's amusement!
Outstanding Justin 👏🏼. You had me in absolute stitches. Educational, witty and insightful. You are right to question why people think it’s ok to slag The Darkness songs. I’ve never understood why and, if anything is gimmicky and annoying it’s Sharon Osbourne’s effing whiny voice. IBIATCL IS A ROCK CLASSIC! On repeat every week in this house. ❤
The Darkness for me were one of the best, I'd love to hear more from the Darkness in the same sound we grew up listening too. To have the Darkness back on top of the charts would be amazing. Christmas time (don't let the bells end) was for me one of the greatest and most iconic Christmas tracks of all time I truly hope to one day see you guys do another (and maybe knock ladbaby off the top spot!)!
I believe in a thing called royalties. HAR-HAR-SNORT. That incident with the costume tassels getting caught in the stage rigging would be brilliant on film. It could rival Spinal Tap's "Stonehenge" incident.

Yamaha have kindly set him up with a keyboard while hes over there too...
Absolutely loving the support from his ever growing fan base, fellow musicians and reactors...
Cheers ❤️🇬🇧❤️
The Darkness were amazing. I recall at the time thinking Justin was the nearest we got to Freddie Mercury. He was a front man with all the style and class of Freddie and an amazing voice. Love you Justin and your channel.
I love how you approached this! So informative, real, and hilarious. The Darkness “version” bit got me good 😂
You were on a roll today. My new phrase "shed builder". Also reminder to self, do not wear tassels when you're trying to flee. 😁
Justin’s face when he hears Sharon say that it’s an annoying song 😂 I agree! Get out of here Sharon!
I woke up in the middle of the night to take a piss and thought to myself. I wonder what Justin's up to today? Then I found this video. Now I'm too entertained to go back to sleep. So thank you for that Justin. Now I need to watch more.
Just stumbled across your channel and I am blown away by your insights, commentary, artist critiques, and your ability to recreate (in real time) the songs you are listening to and I appreciate you discussing and explaining them in such an informative, technical, and entertaining way. Keep up the great work!
This was my favorite episode that you’ve ever done. Nice job :-) there was absolutely no reason, for the extra editorial offers by the judges
I love that (Drummer), "stop clattering through it like a shed builder" brilliant Justin.
I was howling at that 😅😅😅
I remember walking into a record store, and, buying a CD copy of "Permission to Land". Hard to believe that was 20 years ago.
It's no wonder this came across my feed, 6 months later, but here it is none the less, and you now have a new/reborn admirer. I now must have you entire back catalogue. It's. I love your sincerity. Forgive me, English is my first language. I did poorly at it. I don't know how to articulate my joy for you. You had me laughing and captivated and appreciating the accidental education you and others, not quite like you, are bestowing upon me. You seem like a real genuine person that actually appreciates life and your place in it. Thank you.
Cheers
I really enjoy this channel. Just discovered it today and i'm binge-watching. Thanks Justin, really nice to see you on TH-cam.
Just when I think he's already said the funniest things this week... here comes the caught by the tassels story. I laughed so much my elderly mom came into the room and asked if I was all right 😂
Loius Walsh will be 'spider-face' from hence forth.
I always empty my bladder and mouth respectively before viewing.
@@jenniferroyan4797 Ha ha, that is grade A advice!! 😆 I did literally spray juice on my desk the other day, watching an older JHRA video. He is a threat to furniture everywhere!!
How wholesome. Did she ask if you needed a cuppa'?
@@User-435ggrest She asked what on earth is this damn funny and noted I've been laughing much more lately 🙂
That was the fastest 23 minutes of pure gold! The Idol bits were hilarious, thanks, I needed that! 😂
Oh my god this was hilarious!🤣
You need to record more often in the morning! In that robe! 🖤
Feisty!👌😁
„… unless you are guns AND roses!“
Loved that.
Justin… You are freaking awesome bro. Just awesome. Never ever in my life did I think I'd be following you on a TH-cam channel, but here we are. All because of that one song back when I was in my 20s. Thank you.
I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard before Justin's reaction to Osbourne and Walsh - FFS! 😂🥰
This is not boring, it's informative. I think this helps up incoming artist and fans to understand how synchronisation works. BTW "I believe in a thing called love" WAS, IS & ALWAYS WILL BE ICONIC BECAUSE OF YOU JUSTIN HAWKINS!
I'm close enough to his age to say so and have not the first effing clue who this dude is 🤣
@@MadScientist267??? Are you saying you don’t know who Justin is?… maybe go and google him if so…
I DO love your honesty about €€$$£££ and your seriousness AND humor about all this ( not always nice) stuff.👏👏👏👏👏
You should do commentary on critique without having morning coffee more often...the unhinged reactions were awesome!
Best episode ever, I laughed all the way through. More of this please.
This has made my day. I lost it at "sing the song the way it's meant to be sung, you prck!" and by the end I was in tears 😂
Your intellectual property lesson on synchronization was fabulous and only surpassed by your analyses!! 😂 This has got to be one of my very favorite of your videos (hubby is yelling at me for laughing too loudly): long live Justin and the Darkness!!
Justin is the friend everyone wishes they had.
When you get to be my age, anyone still alive is the friend I wish I had.
LOL, your reaction to Shane and the judges is hiliarious! Love it!
THis is a gem of a show, Justin! I never thought I would finish watching but it was totally entertaining and informative at the same time.
16:46 I think they actually like the song but are envious for not having been able to written it themselves...so I would say to them 16:53 🤣
If only I could have said that same expression (18:38) today...you cheered me up!!!
It's healthy sometimes to let the anger flow...😊👍
Nice one!🥰
Justin, not only are you a brilliant talented musician, but so bloody funny you cheer m up every time I watch you.
Jon.
There’s definitely a few artists out there who owe us a pint.
110 grand! That buys a lot of doobies!
@@hungoverdrawn 👀🤝
@@mattking241 Haha couldn’t agree more mate
Oh I'm so glad this popped up on my feed! My mum and I bloody love your music, your albums were always our road trip soundtracks 😅❤️❤️
This was one of the best episodes of this channel by far. I was laughing so hard. Cheers Justin ✌️
"Ritchie Tombola & The Gemineyes"
I'm having that one!! 😂
EDIT: Just as an aside, I sang IBIATCL at my mum's 50th birthday party, and absolutely NAILED IT! Of course, I was pretty drunk at the time, but I was told the next day that it totally turned the night around, and since my mum passed two years ago its been something I've been quite happy to have done, to completely ridiculed myself in a pub for my family's amusement!
I'll have to book you :D not a bad song to go out to mate
Outstanding Justin 👏🏼. You had me in absolute stitches. Educational, witty and insightful. You are right to question why people think it’s ok to slag The Darkness songs. I’ve never understood why and, if anything is gimmicky and annoying it’s Sharon Osbourne’s effing whiny voice. IBIATCL IS A ROCK CLASSIC! On repeat every week in this house. ❤
I've only come across this channel very recently, but damn these are some of the funniest vids out there!
This is why we love you Justin you tell it like it is! 🤣 You totally ROCK sweet man! 🔥❤️
The darkness is a great band, and I believe in a thing called love is a timeless classic
This episode with your critique is cracking me up! Making my morning! 😂
This was one of the funniest videos I've watched - absolutely loved it!!!
These episodes just keep getting better!! Informative whilst being piss yourself funny 😂
Thanks and keep it up Justin 👍
I believe in a thing called royalties. HAR-HAR-SNORT. That incident with the costume tassels getting caught in the stage rigging would be brilliant on film. It could rival Spinal Tap's "Stonehenge" incident.
If TSwift is digging your song like that you have every right to stop and say “that’s me playing guitar” and so on 🤘🏻🤘🏻
My daughter is a huge fan. So much so she chose, I Believe in a Thing Called Love, as her song in a lip sync battle. She nailed it.
Dude, thanks for making my morning hilarious. I was screaming with laughter to the point I'm almost hoarse, now! Love to hear about some of the workings of the industry, and you do it with equal bits of entertainment and amusement. Thanks for your music and every laugh you crack out of me.
The Darkness appearing in the Super Bowl ad for T Mobile is one of the all-time great commercials. Hilarious AND awesome!😃👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻🤠
