Diff, The Reno-Bug has been my favorite project so far. Your attention to detail, and overall fabrication skills are what keep me coming back every week. Thank you for taking the time to document your work!
This is the first time I've understood the shims on a link pin, very good explanation. I have one I've been wanting to rebuild but didn't want to take it apart without understanding how it goes back together. One of my brothers learned Afrikaans many years ago, hearing you mention the language reminded me of some of his stories after he returned from living in South Africa.
Looking really good Diff, very interesting how you shimmed up the king pins, glad you’re making progress putting it all back together! Nicely done my brother!
Mr D it's always good watching and learning the right ways to do things u teach so well great seeing your build ad well I believe your wife will be proud to drive this little car your building for her can't wait till next video
This is brilliant to follow, watching an expert share his knowledge, i love it. I lived in Cape Town in 2001 and had a Beamish beach buggy to run about in and i used to head from Devils Peak down cliff neck to Camps Bay every morning to walk along the beach. Happy happy memories of an amazing city and country. Lekka man 😊.
Great to see someone still happy to use the OEM version and not upgrade it just for the sake of doing it . Cheers for bringing us along on the rebuild I'm really enjoying it , old fashion hands on no ugga dugga guns or over priced tooling that most can't afford and a great amount of knowledge in the subject . Cheers Diff
Cool vid Div, I like the way you show and explain how parts go together and function. I can't wait to see this little machine rolling down the road. Keep up the great work brother.👌👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
It’s coming along quickly and loving the assembly. I did my toe in in the same manor with rulers. Apparently spot on when checked by special machines during its cert process. Shows what simple tools can achieve. 👍Keep up the good work.
Nothing wrong with rulers man. It's essentially just setting to a correct measurement. The special machines just do it in a fancy and impressive manner 😅
Wow, there are some beautiful builds, I just happened to be watching under my carport and was surprised to see my 1960 vw beetle in your video. I just got the body on the toyota chassis today. 😂
Man I hope parts aren't a arm, leg and left nut over your side of the globe. I dig your build. Thanks for taking the time to share your progress. Looking forward to the next video
No there not!! I had drum brakes on the back of my square body in my profile pic. It stopped like a 18 wheeler on my 44" tires. After I did a rear disc brake conversion it stops like a 1/2 ton Chevy on stock tires. Disc brakes are way better.👍
Look into abrasive blasting using pressure washers. Set up a receiving pit to settle the debris. Pipe to a pick-up pit with a pump feeding the pressure washer. Add water to the system as needed. Clean out pits as they fill up. You can recycle your media for multiple passes if you are willing to screen it. It will get too dull and full of trash at some point.
Hi you very skilld and kreativ lads. Very nice jobb you have done boys. I made the same jobb on my Porsche 1600 A coupe 1956 model in 1969. But it had aluminum drums vith steel inside. I just love your way of preserving old cars. Wfr. Gunnar from sweden.
Thanks for having us Dif always look forward to your updates. By the quality look of that VW front axle assembly. Are you sure you're not a "closet" classic car restorer?😂 Nice job man, everyone needs a friend like Wayne, aka the BM, Cheers!
Hey Div, Thank you for the refresher on the VW front suspension maintenance. Originally I learned about the workings of the VW from three wash pans full of parts that came with a floor pan and beetle body. I had a great time figuring it all out. The first time I drove that bug, my face hurt from smiling so much. That was in the early 1970's. I now have two dune buggies to rebuild. A side note you may not actually care about. In so called american english, bushes are plants such as rose bushes, flower bushes, hedge bushes and hundreds more. Bushings are items such as those you replaced on that front assembly, be they made of steel, rubber, plastic, leather or any number of materials. When you are working on any mechanical object, I think any of your follows are going to know what you are talking about when you speak in the language of the little one man shop in a forest, in South Africa ! Good show Div. Thank you
Thanks. Yes, quite a few differences in language use. For instance, we say spanners, not wrenches. Many more. Best way to learn is with buckets full of parts😁
I have never had a bug that was good enfo. o on the king pins we call that washer in the states toung washer.some was asking about lowering a f100 I told him go to your chanel you just done one the simple way. Thanks Diff . P S you could off got some grease of bare foots foot just kidding.❤
I was taught to tighten the wheel bearing until the drum stops turning as soon as you take your hand off of it (it doesn't free spin) then back it off 1/4 turn.
Was about to think that the square hole on the dust cap is missing before remebering you drive on the other side of the road. Great video again, thanks Div.
A friend of mine used to call the beetle Hitler's Revenge. It was developed during WW2 by German engineers with input from Adolf himself. It was still produced in Mexico until a few years ago, don't remember how many.
@WestsideCritters It was the summer of 74, I was 16 and in a hurry (on a promise). The first mistake I made was not backing off after snugging the bearings up and then the big F up was not securing the lock nut properly on the right hand side, I figured out the nut got spun and tightened and the rest is history. And no I didn't get my leg over. 😕
About the same point.painting the pan on my 74 super beetle..put body back on pan in a week or so.new brake lines, installed, painted all motor tin.re installed..a few more body patches n be ready to put back together.
Hey Div, I looked up the number of Bettles produced by VW, and there was 21,529,464. And the last one came off the line in 2003 in Puebla, Mexico. I would love to find a mostly clean one with only minor rust. So I'll keep on looking. Bart

Crikey ol' mate you remind me of myself, I hate people watching me work . . . then again 20 minutes of you is worth it's weight in gold
Diff, The Reno-Bug has been my favorite project so far. Your attention to detail, and overall fabrication skills are what keep me coming back every week. Thank you for taking the time to document your work!
My pleasure and thanks!
Div and Wayne Nice work and I learned something new about VW Front Ends with the shims Very KOOL
The engineering on the Beetle is so cool to see
Watching Div and Bigfoot working together really makes my day lekka. Thanks for sharing your boet and take care.

I agree with you wholeheartedly
Over here we have a saying

Great Master Class on VW bug front ends
Hi Diff. Your project is coming along nicely. I'm impressed !
Lappie, is another dutch word. Mostly we say ˋdoekje ´ or ˋtod´ we mak3 them from old t-shirts or bedsheets 😂. Furthermore well done.
Mr D it's always good watching and learning the right ways to do things u teach so well great seeing your build ad well I believe your wife will be proud to drive this little car your building for her can't wait till next video

Diffmister . Good job Boets. I never been a VW Bettle guy. But im learning quick. Thanks Guys. Lekka Boet Lekka. Have a good week..👍👍
Beetles can actually be a lot of fun. Simple engineering, parts are not that expensive and so many mods possible!😁

Another great video Div ! I have to agree with all the other comments that you are a very good teacher!
Thank you brother!

Ugga Dugga guns! I'm going to steal that!😁
Nice step by step video on rebuilding the front end, thanks
Glad it helped
Another fine job by the dynamic duo! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you kindly!
Enjoyed the video ,, good to see the Renobug coming together ..
Cool vid Div, I like the way you show and explain how parts go together and function.

If a VW ever falls out of the sky and into my shed, I'm educated now. Thanks. Cheers from the shed
😂👍
Great job from Missouri in the US love it
making great progress loving the renobug.
Always looking forwards to seeing what is new on the RenoBug Wednesday night when i get in front of the computer.
thanks for the tudorial on VW beetle front ends Div and Wayne..one step closer for RenoBug...

Two lovely fellows!
Great video Div..thank you!🍺
Great job as always thumbs up from Detroit , Michigan
Thanks 👍
Love the progress on your project...
It's always fun to watch you work. I think we all use out nut rounder 5000 for a hammer.
😁👍
Front end looks good and you're right about the brakes. Thanks Div, it will lock up the wheels easy enough.
Yes, when Beetle brakes are right, they work well!😀
Wow, there are some beautiful builds, I just happened to be watching under my carport and was surprised to see my 1960 vw beetle in your video. I just got the body on the toyota chassis today. 😂
Looking forward to see more pics on your progress!
Thanks Div!
You are thorough and concise. A great lesson on Spindle assembly and brakes. Have a luka one.
Thanks!
You are making lovey quite happy.

I am also old school and do not use an impact for the same reason as you, so I can feel it. I am enjoying the Reno bug.
I agree with you Div, disc brakes would be overkill 👍
Thank you both
Afrikaans taal has a lot of nederlands words in it like lappie. I'm always looking forward to your vids. Have a lekka one....👍🍻🍻
Many similarities!
The Fuhrer mobile was actually designed in the late 30s being the same Car in Essence
Diff, everything you do is an education to me.I really enjoy every thing you demonstrate. Good job sir.
I appreciate that!
Drums always stop better than disk anyway, proven fact,, disks are only for ease of service, nice work Div and Wayne
No there not!!

@@dsc420247front discs do most of the work stopping a vehicle. But a lot of trucks still use drums, couldn't figure that one.

Thanks 😊 I did actually restore cars a lifetime ago.🙂
Another step closer and a great job done 👍👌
You guys shouldn't use your hands as hammers though, mine don't work so well anymore because of that. 🤔
Hi Diff.
It's looking really good.

Nice work. I find it funny how your buddy in all the times Ive seen him he never had boots on, even when you guys were welding ..lol
He only wears his one pair of boots when he rides his bike!

I was taught to tighten the wheel bearing until the drum stops turning as soon as you take your hand off of it (it doesn't free spin) then back it off 1/4 turn.
The Barefoot mechanic will like that😀
Great episode brother diff...howzit brother Wayne...hope all have a lekka one guys,, 👍 😎👋
Hey Don! All good brother?
I agree about the drum brakes, it's not high performance stay stock.
Lekka balong a rike yohnga thank you rats for afaica 😂keep up the great work yohnga ynoga younger ❤
Diff , always valuable information and entertaining,,, thanks brother !
Was about to think that the square hole on the dust cap is missing before remebering you drive on the other side of the road. Great video again, thanks Div.
Sharp observation. The square hole is on the right hand side
A friend of mine used to call the beetle Hitler's Revenge. It was developed during WW2 by German engineers with input from Adolf himself. It was still produced in Mexico until a few years ago, don't remember how many.
I over tightened the bearings on my little Fiat 850 and got about 300 yards before the whole stub axle twisted off, valuable lesson learned.
Damn Son , you sure you didn’t weld that bearing on ?? How and the heck could you get it so tight ??? 300 yrds ……. 😅
@WestsideCritters It was the summer of 74, I was 16 and in a hurry (on a promise). Always look forward to your new episodes. Jack Ratchet, AKA YBNormyl

Saves Diff some pain.
Shoeless is his way.
No socks, it's all OK!
😁👍
The beetle was first designed and built in the 1930,s same as the Citroen 2cv
About the same point.painting the pan on my 74 super beetle..put body back on pan in a week or so.new brake lines, installed, painted all motor tin.re installed..a few more body patches n be ready to put back together.
Nice! I want to see some pics!
@ratrodsafrica I posted a bit on my channel..a few shorts n one video
I will try to send some via email..I'm lazy when it comes to getting around to that,,🤪😂😎👍
Hey Div,
I looked up the number of Bettles produced by VW, and there was 21,529,464. And the last one came off the line in 2003 in Puebla, Mexico. I would love to find a mostly clean one with only minor rust. So I'll keep on looking.

Good as new
Lubrication is the solution to all problems, Love it. Thanks for the very informative video Boet. Have a lekka one Div
Enjoyed your company to Diff. Nice job brother man..😊

Hydrochloric acid works nice for cleaning the rust .
Nice job
Thanks!
Looking good 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Hi,yes I too have a bugger,
😂
Lappi is region in North-Finland and "lapp" is rag in estonian...
Good to c u putting in the work, like to c what ur up to ltr brotha
Normal you snug the wheel bearing nut up so there's no play then turn back a 1/4 of a turn that's the way I always done it and never had a problem.
Yes!
👍👍👍👍👍
Very good ⚡️
Thanks!

Looks great. Are you painting with oil based enamel? That’s what I would use.
Yes, something like that. Product called Hammerite
👍😊
Div, if that Engine has dual port heads it's most likely a 1600cc and if memory serves a 60hp Ditty bop jobbie.
No, it's actually a 1300 dual port. They were available as well
LOL, I guess you learn something new every day, thanks Div.
if you need to get your bearings on things watch a Dif video that's how you do it
Thanks brother!
Diff really enjoy your content and explanations.
What paint do you use for good protection of the suspension components and pan/chassis?
Thanks. Many opinions on that question. I'm using Hammerite Smooth Black. I don't think it's available everywhere

Yes. We spell it lappie 🙂

Its a 1300 twinport engine, more than peppy enough for the application.🙂
