My Brother John Kelly from Waterford was buried in trent park London on 31st oct 2012 and Me and my other 3 brothers carried his coffin, along with his son and brother in law. I sang the candy store in the church and my eldest brother gave a few words, then the whole family sang the green fields of france just before we carried him out. and at the pub, the Blue Moon in Wood green we all sang for the entire duration. and I sang Peggy gordon more times that day then then I can remember R.I.P. John
33 years later 2017 and not even the best singers of today can touch luke, his headstone merely says, luke kelly dubliner, of such talent nothing more needs to be said

The Dubliners have always been one of my favourite groups and this one of my favourite tracks. Now, showing my ignorance, I did not know that Luke Kelly was the dominate voice I was hearing. But so glad I now know and will continue to enjoy his singing.

This is my 3yr old daughter Aoibhs favourite song. At least 5000 of these views are hers. Most toddlers lift their parents phone and want to watch Peppa Pig or something. Aoibh clicks on this video every time and sings along. I'm OK with that 'screen time'.

Met an Irish woman 18 years ago in Worcestershire who claimed her mother was Peggy Gordon. In County Down I met a young man who claimed his mother was Van’s Brown Eyed Girl. Then I met an older man who was a very good friend for years, from Dublin, who claimed in his youth, he knew Peggy who drank in the Dublin pubs of his youth. Whatever the truth or fantasy of any of these stories, they’re all lovely.
Since the song goes back to the mid- if not early- 1800s, 'fantasy' is the operative word. This version is based on one collected in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, in, oh, the 1940s, I suppose.
