I was 19 years old when I bought my 87 GT with T-tops, black with red trim, the cops absolutely hated on me every chance they got, a female cop pulled me over and referred to me as Mr 5.0 😂, a lot of great memories, I’m now 54 and wanting an LX, trying to find one that hasn’t been wrecked or hacked all to hell isn’t easy, you’re gonna pay up for a clean 5.0

Still my favorite car of all time. Love to have one of these myself. Definitely ruled the streets back in the 80s and even early 90s. Power to weight was there with a strong rear end and great reliability made these cars a force to be reckoned with.

@EnjoyTheSHO I always loved the SHO cars, but.....its a big but 🤣....the 5.0 cars were soooo easy to make quick it was like cheating. A 3.73 gear swap, the 10 minute tune up and some exhaust and they were mid 13 second cars all day with some traction. We knew a guy with a 100% stock 93 coupe 5 speed ran 14.1 on the stock Goodyear tire hardly trying and certainly not power shifting. It was like his pampered child 😅

Another big benefit of the popularity and high production is the fantastic aftermarket support. The parts are readily available and fairly cheap by todays standards. I have a 90 LX which came from the factory with a forged bottom end, all it took was a top end kit to push it up to 400 horses and have something that can be beat on regularly without fear of breakage. Lightweight, instant torque and a 5 speed that is happy banging gears is a prescription for a lot of fun!

So, of course, he had done some 'minor' modifications, including 3.73 gears, ported & polished heads, short-throw shifter, Flowmaster exhaust, etc. He really didn't want to sell it, but his family was growing and it just wasn't practical anymore. It only had 45K miles when I got it (I think it was 5 or 6 years old). I drove it for 6 years before I decided to sell it. Man, if I only realized how much I would miss it. It's easily one of the most fun cars I've ever owned (and since then, I've owned several 'fun' cars, including Integra, Camaro, BMW & Alfa Romeo, to name a few).

A bone stock 3.08 geared 5 speed 89 up GT would run 14.0’s all day and a 89 up LX Coupe 3.08 5speed bone stock notch back would run 13.70’s out of the box! These cars are the reason we got the modern muscle car era. These were the first EFI cars that could take old school hot rod tricks and turn them into reliable performance gains. Low curb weight, good launch characteristics, and low prices made these cars unbeatable! No matter how many times I have tried to replace my Foxbody 5speeds for something more powerful or refined. They keep finding their way back into my life. I currently own a pair of them. Black 89 Gt and Red 92 Lx both 5.0 5 speed cars. These cars are just so raw to drive yet reliable and good fuel economy. I drove multiple versions since, and heard the current ecoboost was faster, but I didn't find that. Pretty close though. I will add my 1988 was faster than my 1987, but you could also get different rear end gears. The difference between 2.74 and 3.11, 3.45, and 3.73 would be huge. My 87 was 2.74 and my 88 was 3.45.

Actually a great car, minus some trunk rust issues, valve guides had to b adjusted twice, and a few cooling system issues. Heck they used natural rubber on the hoses back then.....far inferior to silicone. All that aside i put over 100k on it, and sold it for 300 bux less than the purchase price. Was still going strong with 150k miles on it.

Definitely better 0-60 times, and a bit scary for some passengers. But I've driven a couple of the 5.0 GT's. One would put you back in the seat, and one was a relative dog. I bought an 89 5.0 mustang in 1990 that had about 9,000 miles on it, a ford executive owned it before me, it’s still in the family, my oldest son has it now, I still have all the original parts for her so she could be turned completely stock if he wanted to, great video Sir 👍😁

Wow, those numbers are down from 1988 at 225 hp, and 330 lbft of torque. I know emissions kept strangling those engines at the end, but they were also super light.

Great video bro. I worked at Carlisle Ford here in St Pete back in 92-93 as a lot guy. Best time for a guy that loved these cars to work at a Ford dealer...lol. We used to run them up to the Shell on 30th Ave for gas. Needless to say we never would have got down on the way up to the store. I look back on those days now as just dumb luck that I had that experience. There was a guy that came to the dealer that did gold plating and would do the emblems in Gold. The black on black 93 Gt verts didnt look bad with the gold 5.0 emblems. That and triple whites. Driving them brand new they seemed pretty fast. Sales guys would take the LX notches as the demo's. Reef Blue was beautiful and I almost bought one. I ended up getting an 87 Whte/silver lowers GT in 95 with 20k miles and still have it. Love me some FoxBody

Had an 89 red/grey/5-speed like this one. Have many fond memories of the car spanking IROCs, Trans Ams, Corvettes and GNs. Of course mine wasn't stock though as I had every bolt-on available at the time on it.

I had one of these in 1996 and it was a great car! Mine had the gray leather interior though. Ran consist 13.60’s at 102 mph with not a lot of mods or money into it. Awesome review but save the Mullet and hairspray for the Iroc Z three car lengths behind from the last stop light.

I bought a brand new 1989 Saleen California Edition GT in 1989. I still own it but I just gave it to my son who lives in Georgia. I never had a car that I had so much fun in or was so comfortable to drive. Shortly after buying it I took a trip in it with the whole family 2 adults and 2 male late teens and luggage form northern ca to southern ca and I checked the mileage the first time and it was 29 mpg. I thought for sure I made a big mistake. So I checked for sure again and it was 28. I was driving consistently at 70 mph and the rpm was about 1600 rpms. Amazing. After California started fooling around with the gasoline adding whatever to it the mileage dropped off some. It didn't matter really because I went on to modify the car extensively.

The car in this video is what I am looking for!! The 1993's are best of the foxbody honestly. All kinks had been ironed out, they were most refined they were ever going to be in 1993.
So back in the day people were scared of them because the advertised 205HP... that was only marketing by Ford to make the 1993 Cobra and later on the 1994 GT/Cobra look desirable for those folks who purchased a 205HP GT/LX car in 1993. The 1993 has same horsepower has the 1992! And if you can't take my word for it just watch some dyno videos of 1993's in good condition, stock, it will do around 190 to rwheel which is basically what healthy HO 5.0's do on a dyno stock.

I had a 1991 LX hatchback in that same red. Automatic transmission though but still kicked once you gave it throttle and it downshifted and went from like 30 km/hr to 70-80 km/hr in just a few seconds. Kick my myself in the rear now for selling it. Still remember the roar of that 302 5.0 V8 and with the signature sounding 2 chamber Flowmaster exhaust.

Notchbacks we’re the lightest and fastest I was the poor kid at a private school so I would teach all my friends how to drive these cars You could advance timing to 13 degrees and pick up free hp along with a plastic silencer on mass air inside fender 5 speeds could be power shifted and run 14.10 s Autos had second gear hidden pattern was 1 D Od so you would shift to drive than pull back to first and car would stay in second and not short shift All convertibles had 2.76 gears so they were slower These cars would wake up with 3.55 and 3.73 gears And I remember Mustang monthly always testing these cars with simple bolt ons like cold air and H pipes and would publish how many car lengths each bolt on was worth they had a formula for weight which was every 120 pounds lighter you would pick up a tenth 10 hp was worth a tenth also every one would search the junkyards for the chrome space saver spare and run them up front you could disconnect the front sway bar and drain out 1 quart of oil These were the best days I remember them like yesterday you were truly connected to your car working on it to pick up tenths at the drag strip I think I covered all the tricks Did I forget any ????
