    Hi Roderick,
I'm pretty new to RadioDJ, and I'm in a phase of "playing" with it, so I found your tutorials, and they're really good!
Now, we use a scenario for our radio automation as follows:
    - we have a main playout host with a main radio automation software, which is handled in live shows and live news by our DJs
    - I have the similar radio automation software on another host in our LAN which has full access to our audio library on the main host over windows sharing. This one is used for maintenance jobs, like building play lists, for example (no job for a live DJ)
Now, when you build a database on the main host, you use the audio library from this host (or a shared network drive, if you prefer). What is a database? Basically it is a pointer to file locations, so the files can be found quickly, as we all know.
The problem in accessing 1 database from 2 or more different hosts is not in the radio automation software itself, but rather in the sharing logic. Let's take RadioDJ.
Say, our song is located on our main RadioDJ host with MariaDB installed. Say the hostname is "Chief", and our audio library is on the partition "AUDIO\", the audio directory is "Pop" and we want to add the song "David Bowie-China Girl" to our DB.
Say, we open the "Tracks Manager" in RadioDJ and want to add this song over the function "IMPORT FILE". The pop up window "Track Import" opens and we add the song from the given path. Now, on the main host "Chief", this song is available in the search section, and can be reproduced in the play cue. So far, so good. Now we install Radio DJ on the host "Player" in the same LAN, and during the installation we add the database from "Chief" over the network for our purposes. After startup we see the added song in our database, but it is only visible as a pointer, actually it's a ghost, like you demonstrated in this tutorial. It's true, the path to our song is: "AUDIO\Pop\David Bowie-China Girl", but it is on the host "Chief", not on our host "Player", so it can not be accessed from the host "Player".
The solution for this I made is as follows:
    - NOTE: the precondition is that the "AUDIO" partition on the host "Chief" is shared with full access in Windows, like mentioned
    - open "Tracks Manager"
    - tick "IMPORT FILE", The "Track Import" pop up opens
    - in the right corner we tick the "+" button to add a "Path/URL"
and now the important thing ...
    - do NOT add the local path "\AUDIO\Pop\David Bowie-China Girl"!
    - rather add the network path for the host "Chief" like this:
    "\\Chief\AUDIO\Pop\David Bowie-China Girl"
This will be saved in the DB, and every time this song is accessed, no matter from the host "Player", "Chief" or any ... it will be accessed over the network path, so it will be always available.
This way I can build play lists on the host "Player" while my DJ is having his live program on the host "Chief", and we are working on the same data base.
NOTE: don't use the quotation marks like in this tutorial, they are just for presentation purposes
    I hope this helps someone.
    Juri

I also figured it out. Have your music database saved on a (z:// or y:// ) mapped drive on a network and make sure you have permission to change the files. i am running RadioDJ on a laptop as my "main" playout, so I can manage it via my "Production" computer. when you play it finds the song. If you're running on wifi it will take longer to load but I would imagine if you're running via a cabled network it will be quicker. Your video has helped me figure this out so thank you :D

Yes that will work in a network environment. I have people asking me about via the Internet and that's a sticky one. Thanks for sharing because that's some really helpful information for those wanting to try it out.

Just store your music files on a NAS. And when you map the NAS on both computers, choose the same driveletter. If you then connect both computers to the same database. (As shown in the video) both computers should be able to access the files. I haven't testet it, but as I see it, it should work.

Ya I had to network the database drive for all my studio machines and then clone it for remote machines. I enjoy your videos, good stuff!

Ha, i figured it yesterday too and It played on my mind today to comment because there wasnt any... and you now did :D . It runs a bit slow for me because i'm connected via wireless and would imagine it works better wired up

@@RodericksRadioDJTutorials Any updates on this? Any better way to do it? I am really interested in trying it out as I need to continuously update playlists and events- and it is a 24/7 station. I am unable to interrupt broadcasting for that.

@@mandlonkenotyawa2002 Well when connected to another instance of RadioDJ via shared database, the only things you can effect on the live are events, file adds, file removals, category changes, rotation changes, queue adds/removals and file metadata information. Play, stop, record, automation modes are not shared.
