@finnago Thak you for this video! This was extremely helpful for students of all levels. Ive never seen the Suomen Mesteri books, but def will try to get the 1st one. We are independently studying and sinply wish yo be able to pass the YKI on arrival. Sounds like those books would be a solid asset to own.

You are very welcome! It is very hard even if you know the most effective methods, but definitely these books will help you of you can find the time and patience to use them :)

Instead of Duo, you should give Speakly a try. Their Finnish section is really good. I can't believe Duo allows you to answer without the diacritic marks on the vowels, i.e. the diaeresis. That is just wrong because the diaeresis not only changes the sound of the vowel, but having it also changes the meaning of the word. I am glad you ar enjoying your classes and having fun with Suomen Mestari. Btw, Suomen Mestari has 4 books in total. Book 4 takes you into B2 territory I believe.

Hey thank you for the comment! Yes I did actually pay for a lifetime subscription to Speakly a little while back when it was on sale and I think it was good, but I usually use the apps when I'm commuting or walking so talking out loud like that would give me anxiety! 😅 I should try it at home though! Oh yeah I think there are 4 books actually, my friend did buy 4 old copies of them recently and looks like there is still a long way to go!

Try Wikipedia for Finnish language, Finnish grammar etc. Kotimaisten kielten keskus or Kotus has helpful info too.

You have made a logical fallacy. Time can't be replayed, so you will never know whether your Finnish would be better or worse had you not used Duolingo. Studying with other people will help you to meet other people.

Hey Nigel, thanks for the comment! Yes, I can't argue with the points you made here as much as I wish I could replay time 😅 I would say though that this is just my opinion and even though I use duolingo a lot, even to this day, and it is the best app available, I don't think it is that effective when I think about all the hours I've invested compared to the courses I've done. I have shared similar opinions with my coursemates too that if you can find a course, you should use it to learn Finnish effectively. Duolingo is useful, but it isn't a core language on the app, so it can only take you so far and there isn't any instruction or as much content in the course unlike more popular languages like Spanish, German, French etc.

I have done face-to-face Finnish classes. I like them because I am sociable. The best way to learn Finnish is to speak it, and not worry too much about making mistakes. @@Finnago94
