That was like kinda the point.
It's a parody of video essays, and how they'd use lots of big, bombastic vocabulary while saying literally nothing of value.
Eyo we got matching pfp's

@@pitaalfereti58 I was replying to the original commenter
@@beeg8615 oh ok.,
Let’s not forget the overblown, attention-seeking title of the essay that tries to elevate the importance of the essay to that a phd thesis or academic dissertation, but then sounds utterly stupid after a moment’s thought, such as:
Analyzing SpongeBob’s Lessons on Third World Poverty
Crash Bandicoot is Colonial Propaganda and You Fell for It
Or the 10,000,000th iteration of: This Anime Depictions a Happier Way of Life We Once Had and The Government Won’t Let Us Return to
speaking of which, there is a video literally called and i quote, "how spongebob exposes the tragedy of the school system."
I love the vocal fry. So self indulgent, stretching words out like that and just going deep fry on those vocal chords.
Just realized Video essays are just an evolution of the typography lyric videos.
their editors are always giving 110% tho, they're always edited so beautifully
A bunch of distracting animations and screen transitions aren't beautiful, more unnecessary.
@@rainermist2357 yeah if I click on one of these vids and see animations/transitions all over the screen it's an automatic no-go.
Just generic to be honest.
They all have the same editing style that tries to mimick indie news channels like Vox etc.
@@cienfuegos8155 Yes but who is Vox trying to mimick?
Their editing says so much, while their contents say so little.
Why Teletubbies is actually darker than you think, lol. Someone please make a video essay on that.
chapter 1 god is dead
chapter 2 why you have to delete social media
chapter 3 the conspiracy behind no nut nobember
chapter 4 we live in a society
I also love when they feel the need to explain why a movie is dumb when we all already know why.
Like the hour-long breakdowns of the Transformers and Fast & Furious movies. Yeah buddy, we don't need you to break down for us why a car flying between two buildings doesn't feel real. I'm fairly sure people don't watch those movies while contemplating the laws of physics.
Yeah, It worked when plinkett did it for the prequels a decade ago but its not going to work for every stupid movie
Movie: *does something mildly zany*
Essayists: this mockery of science reflects society’s lack of appreciation for true academics like myself
The hour long Transformers essays are actually about why they’re good though lmao
THANK YOU. Like not every movie has to be a cinematic masterpiece to be enjoyable. Let me laugh at Shark Tale in peace.
They also try to sneak in philosophy and anticapitalism in that video lol
christ that comment shoutout scared me for a second man
great video tho, I completely understood all of it! cinema really is a macabre facsimile of yestertime.
You are wrong ….....….……… And false
video essays are literally the mcdonalds of academia
Academia is horrendous tho
Fast food analogies are figuratively the Quentin Tarantino of analogies.
how are video essays academia lmao what
mcdonald's is actually good though.
hahahha , oh em gee , nnooooooo.. I was thinking about making video essays , but i never worked in McD's in high school , so i ought not start now
that vocal fry is on point
Even though its called a review, it ends up being 30 minutes of a guy slowly describing everything that happens in the series/episode/book at a surface levelwithout any attempt at reading into themes past a surface level acknowledgement
"X ways Y tried to warn you"
I like video essays because I'm a pretentious asshole too.
You actually don't, and I have a 37 hour video detailing why not
Fair enough, at least you're honest about it
The people who make these video essays really didn't find any creative way of their own to format their work. They just kept on making essays like they did in school.
both the writing and actual production capture the style perfectly. excellent parody
I was once on a plane flight and intended to read a book, but the person next to me was a talker. All I remember from that two hour, largely one-sided conversation is that he was into modern literature and used the word 'masturbatory.'
How self indulgent in more ways than one
@@burrybondz225lmfao
The new trend now is to ask a question in the title: "was The Flash a good film?" and the answer right there in the thumbnail in caps: "IT WAS BAD"
Not accurate, doesn't have an awkwardly forced joke every 3 seconds and flashy graphics in 9 different colors to keep the goldfish brains engaged. Any video essay TH-camr who can't gain their composure and stop with that nonsense within the first 10 seconds instantly loses me.

Nerdwriter and Thomas Flight been real quiet since this dropped.
Great satire. I do like a good video essay, but holy hell is it easy to cross into a black pit of misinformation when you explore the space on TH-cam enough. Some creators REALLY are not that well informed, and frankly lack adequate experience and background to shed light on subjects they approach. Yet their videos look genuinely stunning. What a time to be alive.
Ironically this comment comes across very video-essay-esque in its own right. "Misinformation" is usually a red flag.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97 lol , he clearly consumes them
Being this is my biggest fear
Bruh no way its dont starve and bloons guy
Can't forget how most of the video ends up being a summary of the plot
"why X is an underrated masterpiece"
*2 hours later*
"it's alright"
Thank you so much for this. TH-cam is littered with all these air headed pseudo intellectual video essays, I'm glad someone is showing them for what they are.
Not accurate enough; you forgot the video being summed up as "capitalism bad!" and then some "this video was sponsored by generic VPN"
Capitalism is bad tho
I came back to this video after trying to watch a 15 minute monster hunter video essay that after 3 minutes still had not gotten to the main point and was quoting pop psychology and talking with that same obnoxious tone.
0:18 honestly that intro is way funnier when you realize that quote was about theatrical drama, not actual drama so it really does make even less sense
"In OuR mOdErN sOcIeTy"
you forgot to overuse chapters
chapter 1: hello
chapter 2: today we will be talking about how Garfield: a tale of 2 kitties, changed everything
chapter 3: the metozoic period
Glad I ain't the only one who think a lot of these video essay dudes are pretentious. I'm all for high brow analystical stuff but a lot of these folks behind these essays think way more highly of themselves and their views than they should.

but wait you forgot to go off-script to talk about how this is actually a deeply personal issue to you that is so much more than current interest trends on the internet to generate traffic to your channel because some kid on the playground made fun of you for having to wear glasses that one time which is why the stories about genocides have such an impact on you they compel you to make these highly stylized videos in the first place
Average Nerdstolgic video
You forget excessive use of tape rewind sound effects before part one
Okay but that bottomless espresso extraction was absolutely gorgeous
I'm mildly disappointed that this Average Video Essay wasn't sponsored by Nebula.
You forgot to make the video spread out over 2+ hours and slap an ad in every like 30 minutes at least.
