    Thanks for making this video. You did a good job explaining things. I also like that you talked about some of the other problem areas that you and your coworkers have seen with coolant leaks on this model. I have seen all those areas that you pointed out, leaking coolant at different times. Each was an expensive repair. This was a very helpful video.

    Thank you sir. I think you nailed our problem. Leaking at base of oil filter housing. Your video helped a bunch.

    Great video my man. Ive been working on my personal Bimmers for about 13yrs now and what i learned is that these hoses will begin to fail when the motor mounts begin to fail. They go hand in hand and I believe its a combination of garbage quality plastic oem hoses + the motor pulling on them while being driven.

    Nice Job my friend!! I love the new B engines but it's just nature of the beast that at some point the water pump & oil filter housing need to be done. Since the intake is off I always recommend cleaning the intake valves due to the direct injection. Since the repair for water pump and oil filter housing is not cheap already many customers think you are trying to up-sell some B.S. service to fleece them out of more money. I offer for them to come take a look at them and that usually sells it b/c they get really nasty by 100k miles. I say you can spend the extra $150 now or when it becomes a problem you can pay minimum $500 or dealer costs $1k to have it done due to all the labor. Most of the time they thank me for letting them know and them saving $ for just doing it during the service. Many have come back to tell me they notice a difference in performance and cold starting so it's not BS.

      @koolfredsbimmertech5617  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Typically we don't see a lot of carbon build up on the newer B series engines. Usually its the N54. But i see your point, is there is carbon its less labor to clean since the intake is already off.

    It’s was leaking in several areas. Once I got the intake off found that plastic water outlet pipe warped and just barely moving the wire harness the coolant vent pipe brake at the cly head connection. So there several things that can leak. It’s a domino effect.

    Hey Boss, I have a quick question, My 2017 BMW 430i xdrive which has the same engine (B46) had the oil filter housing go out, they're notorious for going out... my turbo return line also was leaking a very small amount of coolant, I tried ordering the hose but it was actually cancelled due to that return line being discontinued by BMW, waiting on getting the replaced line back from BMW after they issue a replacement, for now my car works and I obviously topped off my coolant, do you think I should drain the coolant? I did all the work myself, I'm not new to working on my BMW but that was def new for me to do. Also I replaced the engine harness that you mentioned on my Vehicle due to the oil sensor part of that wire harness being damaged, I also replaced the oil sensor, do you think there is any coding needed through ISTA?

    • @KoolFredsGarage
      @KoolFredsGarage ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That part is Possibly on back order or has superseded to a new part # I don’t believe is discontinued. Try to ck another dealer. No need to code the vehicle unless modules are replaced.

    • @KoolFredsGarage
      @KoolFredsGarage ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m currently unaware if there is a part shortage on that part but if so maybe it will be few weeks before it’s back in stock. You may have to source an aftermarket replacment in the mean time to get the car back up and running.

      @@Ib3tr0lling I guess cause it was leaking out so fast it it not have a chance to mix with the oil. I did not have to flush it. I just would recommend using new coolant and changing the oil and filter.

    • @Ib3tr0lling
      @Ib3tr0lling ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@koolfredsbimmertech5617 I figured as well, I didn’t flush my coolant because I thought the same, when I removed the old housing, after having to do it in apartment complex garage with limited tools… I thought if the oil mixed with the coolant you would see it at the base of the engine block since I wouldn’t think the oil and coolant wouldn’t mix but then again idk if the oil would be less dense than the coalant for whatever reason 🤷🏻‍♂️ thanks for the replies man, have a good one! Love the info on this video! Keep up the good work.

    Which radiator pressure tester you using? Also, had the same issue with mine. Fixed it. Now my A/C compressor keeps short cycling off and on. Getting BMW HVAC code: 801224 "Air conditioning compressor: Shut-down due to excess pressure in refrigerant circuit." Pulling my hair out. I changed both radiators (leaking) in the front along with the whole water pump assembly (leaking too) and did a hi & low coolant bleed. I have the same engine B46 430ix (2017) Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • @koolfredsbimmertech5617
      @koolfredsbimmertech5617  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a snap on brand called blue point. U possibly just have a leak in the a/c system. The system needs to be evaded and recharged and leak tested to find the leak. That fault usually sets when low refrigerant is detected by the pressure sensor.

    • @tdawg1283
      @tdawg1283 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@koolfredsbimmertech5617 one more thing this morning i found another fault code: 20A201 Charge Air Cooling system dry running detected. Points to maybe i did something wrong with low temp system. need to bleed again. Trial and error i suppose. Thanks for the info my man.

    • @koolfredsbimmertech5617
      @koolfredsbimmertech5617  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tdawg1283Sounds like the low temp coolant pump is bad. If the coolant isn't low and is ok, it's not circulating the coolant through the system. maybe when u had that leak it ran dry and damaged the pump.
