Thanks for sharing your Panama Transit 😀It takes me back when I went through in the 60'3 as a young Electrical Engineering Officer in New Zealand Shipping. Happy safe sailing guy's 😀
Very interesting, I always wondered what the process was going through the canal. Seeing the canal close up is impressive. Your adventures are always an educational, visual experience. Thank you and be safe, looking forward for more!!
Great video and commentary. I must ask, however, about your Kings Point characterization. My Dad is a graduate. I didn’t know they weren’t “nice guy(s)”. He was a super guy.
It was a little bit of banter. There is a little bit of "competition" between the State maritime schools and Kings Point. I know many on both sides and fact is some from kP are a bit stuffy.
Great video, brought to life a transit I'd looked at on google earth quite a few times when looking at a "if I won the lottery" boating expedition. So are the pilots required or optional?
@@MVKariwaN62 good to hear with your new paintwork! I presume having professional line handlers also added a level of security here. Placing the fenders at the right spot if the lock wall got a bit close. It's such an experience going through the canal. Happy cruising.

It was very interesting to watch. I have often wondered what it would be like. Thanks for taking the trouble to document your trip.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@MVKariwaN62 would you kindly contact me regarding a novice Nordhavn through the canal

Thanks for sharing your experience. It was very informative and relevant. We are scheduled to transit west to east in April. I feel better prepared
Happy you enjoyed! Sorry we left before you got here!

Good planning well executed. I would consider it rare if very many rookies end up with such a serious machine as you've got.
Thanks!

Wow! That was exciting and very interesting. Thanks for sharing it with us. We are watching in Virginia, USA.
Thanks for watching. We hope to leave Panama for Pacific crossing in next two weeks c
It’s a bit more complicated than a McDonald’s drive through. Thanks for sharing the experience 🍻
We went through a few years ago on our catamaran. It's definitely an experience!
Very interesting video - well done
Glad you enjoyed it

This is a great video.
The ships are very beautiful

All vessels that transit the canal are required to have an advisor or a pilot on board. Any below 65ft in length has an advisor.
@@MVKariwaN62 Thanks for the reply..
I'm surprised you had so few fenders. We had dressed both sides with car tires in black plastic bags.
We had about 6 fenders per side, but they were large and circular. They worked pretty well.

The line handlers worked well and we were glad to have them with the heavy boat.@@trondasdam6443
So exciting and stressful! Thank you for the trip.
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Surprised they don't use Ballard in their locks. Drop lines don't provide secure tie up.
What did it cost for the transit, Pilot and line handlers?
Total cost for our vessel $4080 (over 65ft).
Is it customary to tip these helpers
We did but that was a choice.
Hi Guys! Why not sail around South America instead of using the canal ?
We wanted the experience and also we are headed West
THats a very very long way around. And outside the good weather.
@@trondasdam6443 Exactly, You need perfect weather and you need to plan a long term South America trip!
I wouldn’t like strangers on my boat either
They were pretty good guys though
